A glorified art gallery. [Sept 2011, p.91]
For what it's worth though, this is a handy little tool with more information than you could possibly ask, and the fact that it's free just sweetens the deal. If you don't yet have it and you're a Pokémon fan, get it. Now.
Pokédex 3D is a simple evolution of the Pokémon canon, perfect for every collector and player of the series. Its applications stream far beyond the series and have wider implications for the future of the console. Conceptually the Pokédex is an old idea but socially it could turn out to be exactly what the 3DS was designed for.

Pokedex 3D is not so much **** as it is a guide/resource application for the Pokemon Black and White games for the Nintendo DS. You can gather information by daily downloads for by swapping data with others with this software installed on their 3DS and can do some fun and interesting AR and photo related things with the character models as well. Sure it is kinda bland, and its more of a encyclopedia software than a game but considering its completely free and absolutely optional to download, that is perfectly fine. If you are a fan of Pokemon, download it, if you are not a fan of Pokemon, don't download it, you aren't missing much one way or the other, simple as that.

This isn't a game, as evidenced by the fact that it's in the "applications" section of the 3DS eShop. So the question is whether or not it's a *good* app. My answer is that yes, it is. The information is very comprehensive, including base stats, Pokedex entries from both the Black and White versions of the game, evolutions, and a complete list of which moves are learned at which levels, and which can be taught with TMs. It's definitely cool to have this information (although it's all available on Bulbapedia regardless...) The 3D Pokemon look very good. The AR functionality (allowing you to put one of your Pokemon in the real world and take a picture) is fairly pointless in my opinion. It's always fun to open up your 3DS and see which new Pokemon have been downloaded for you via SpotPass. However, not all of the Pokemon can be obtained this way, meaning you have to exchange information with another 3DS owner to catch them all. If you don't know anyone else with a 3DS, this is really annoying. Overall, though, it's informative, good-looking, and free. Definitely worth checking out if you like Pokemon at all.

I would not call Pokedex 3D a true "game" but more an interactive database. You can get it off the new Nintendo eShop. It's free, so I would recommend it to anyone who may enjoy it. It's really nothing more than a fancy Pokedex, but you can't complain because it's free.

If you like Pokémon and you have a 3DS, chances are you've downloaded this already as it's free, but if not then now's the time to grab it.

Can this seriously be considered a game? It's just an elaborate Pokemon viewer. The only game aspect is sharing the Pokemon you have with other people. I can only see Pokemaniacs enjoying the in depth stat tracking. At least it's free.
