The annual hockey update arrived a little earlier this year, but it still feels very much the same.

NHL 26 doesn’t reinvent the formula, but for longtime fans of hockey or the franchise, it’s more than satisfying. Just be warned - if you’re new to this world, the game won’t be very welcoming at first, and the real fun only begins once you fully get the hang of it.

EA Sports NHL 26 delivers a rich, challenging, and deeply realistic experience. It stands as the premier ice hockey simulator available on the market. Yet it faces certain issues. The initial difficulty and the lack of learning tools may discourage new players, while microtransactions continue to cast a shadow over competitive modes.

An absolute abortion ****. Just a “CTRL-C” “CTRL-V” of last year with even more astonishingly rare, absurd **** animations wedged into already-overcompensating, terrible set of controls. Next year may be the first time since 94 that I don’t buy this game. Awful.

NHL 26 delivers the most refined hockey experience in the series to date, featuring technical gameplay, engaging modes, and top-tier presentation. The new ICE-Q 2.0 engine enhances realism across the board, while Be a Pro offers an immersive narrative journey and Ultimate Team introduces new strategic layers. It’s not the most accessible title at first, but it rewards dedication. Combining authenticity, depth, and intensity, NHL 26 stands out as one of the most complete sports simulations of the season.

NHL 26 is the best ice hockey game you can buy, but don't go into the experience expecting a casual pick-up and play experience. With incredible realism and excellent presentation, NHL 26 is the closest thing many of us will experience to playing in the intensity of arenas like the Bell Centre. It's a very good sports game, but sometimes you just want to have fun.

Be a pro mode is ridiculous questions for being the number one pick. Sure the interview is important, but no team is going to pass on a player that puts up ridiculous numbers and a future franchise player over a wrong answer. And the answers keep changing. It’s a stupid process. The hard work is supposed to be playing not the interview, the interview is usually academic. Nobody wants to spend hours trying to get answers to a stupid interview right when you could be playing the actual game.

I think this game gets trashed by those that only play online because the modes they decide to change usually affects the online play. I am strictly and offline player, and since EA typically doesn't do much to improve upon their bread and butter, offline franchise or season, this year, while, not a lot changed for us that want to dive into a GM role more, the gameplay has improved in most areas. I know the online cheesers hate some of the improvements, because it eliminates some "go to" goals and makes you work for them. I think this year is a very solid game, my favorite since NHL 13 and a few years before when we had the ability to also customize arena music to give the game a more"real life" feel. I like what the EA team is doing in terms of gameplay, but I can't stand that when you create players (draft picks and missing players) you still only get a grey silhouette. It wouldn't take much for them to give us a created player likeness like Madden and College Football does within their company scope. Lastly, they could have tried to get better music for licensing this year, it was a pretty weak showing this year. I would be nice to change arena songs for goal songs and such from their licensed music included in the game since they don't license all 32 teams goal songs...

There's a lot to love about this year's NHL game. From the redesigned Be A Pro mode to the enhanced NHL EDGE authenticity, it's a notable step up from previous years. NHL 26 has perhaps the best 'superstar' mode of EA's current sports lineup, which is shocking considering how stuck in the mud it's been prior to now. If you've been on the fence about EA's pro hockey series, now's the time to jump in.

Overall, NHL 26 presents itself as a title that marks a necessary step in the right direction. However, the game is not without flaws, and the overall picture is a mix of innovation and stagnation.

NHL 26 is not a game that reinvents the wheel, nor does it shed the criticisms leveled at its annual predecessors. However, it represents a decent step forward in key areas. The refinements to puck physics and skating mechanics are substantial, delivering a more authentic and rewarding on-ice experience. While lingering issues, such as inconsistent goaltending AI and repetitive commentary, prevent it from achieving what hockey fans dream of. Be A Pro is certainly more enjoyable, but still requires a ton of work to feel authentic. NHL 26 doesn’t come close to reaching the heights of the series, but it isn’t terrible by any means.

Hockey is family. Hockey is life. Hockey is a source of joy. NHL 26, less so. For all the good it does, this is an off year; this is certainly no NHL 17. I hoped for more.

Reviews aren’t the place to weigh in on how to fix things, so I won’t do that here. Deep down I hope the developers who are making this are kicking down Electronic Arts CEO, Andrew Wilson's, door asking for more time, budget, or anything really. Developers tend to be super fans who love making amazing games. I believe that about EA Vancouver, but this is not good enough and hasn’t been good enough for years. The players who return year after year deserve better.

Other than HUT I am having a blast playing Be A Pro and franchise mode. Gameplay seems better than last year, still needs some improvements but overall I’m happy I bought Chel this year.

The gameplay is More well balanced than nhl 25 at lunch day. Of course some new content in be a pro is a good thing. I prefer hut this year because now the attribute have now more impact in the game . Finally, the Goalie are way better they don’t just throw themselves everywhere anymore.

It's EA hockey, same as it was past several years. The graphics and animations get better every year, but everything else really just stays the same. If you didn't like the last few games, you won't like this. If you liked the last few games, you will like this. Offline the game is pretty solid once you spend a half hour or so tuning the gameplay sliders. You can take out or improve a lot of the pain-points and overtuned aspects of the game, which makes it much nicer to play. You can also make the game less arcade-y feeling and slow it down some this way as well. Personally, nerfing one timers and buffing deflections and screens instead made the game more interesting and fun to play for me. Online is just not recommended, and a 4/10 game at best from that aspect. Everyone just chooses to exploit and glitch constantly. In Chel everyone uses the same couple builds with the same x-factor traits that are tedious and boring to play against after the 2nd or 3rd time going against it. Chel is fun with friends, but only when you aren't going against a team that just constantly exploits, as well as glitch their stats so they are the lowest height and weight, yet can still shrug off hits and absolutely crush your players even if your players are 6'5 240 pounds with good balance attributes. Hopefully the EA purchase by the Saudi's brings in some new developers to revitalize this franchise. Or if 2K can make a hockey game one day again, some competition will hopefully bring back real quality to this franchise again.

The be a pro mode leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t like that the skills are separated into different types of players. Why can’t an offensive Defense truculent as well? All skills and X factors should be available just like in past games. That was the one thing that didn’t need changing. Could you make the avatars more ugly? I haven’t been able to play more than a season without the game glitching and causing me to lose data that takes me back to season 1. When the game glitches and I have Trait and X-Factor Points, I lose them and can’t recover them. Even though I have new game saves, it overwrites them into one file. Why doesn’t Be A Pro Mode have up to date rosters? They appear to be a year or two behind or don’t make any sense at all. I play the game to make my own outcome, not be limited by interference from the game allowing me to shoot only when it allows me to. The college players should be included so they can be edited as well or allow in mode editing of players. In Be A Pro Mode you should be able to decide whether or not to sign a contract or not to help encourage a trade. And the draft rating interviews are so unrealistic, nobody is going to drop 15 spots as a number one pick because of an interview question. Maybe 4 or 5 spots at most. I like the set up for Roster editing, it is very accessible. Don’t care for the Hut and Build a team modes. Was better last year. Too confusing. Why can’t you give more generic options for goalie masks and team logos? You can have 6 goalies and only 4 masks. Do the math. Why can’t you-do 3-Way trades to help acquire players using a third team for assets or salary dumps in Franchise Mode? Why are scouts always so bad? They have a high rating but not an A plus rating in any destination. Why are Goalie coaches so bad and so few? In Creative mode , it should save all created players even if you change Rosters. I like the new angles of the crowd and replays. Cheryl Pounder doesn’t shut up and so many plays don’t match the commentary. Cheryl Pounder should use her brain and shut up. I like the recognition of the Gordie Howe Hat Trick. But how come it doesn’t recognize the most goals in a single season record? I know Cheryl pounder can’t count but she’s gotta be able to count past 3 goals. Players have scored more than 3 goals in a game. Sittler scored 10 points in a single game, i believe the goals in a single game is 7, so why is commentary limited to 3 goals? I like the no trade conversations and the negotiations . Trades still need to be tweaked for easy trade mode. Some asking price are outrageous still. In Franchise Mode the game switches edited players stats and type of players and Salary going into Pre-season you can be over the Cap, but have to be Cap compliance by the beginning of the season. Why can’t you start Franchise mode from the draft? It’s hard to enjoy this game with all the game interruptions and glitches that impede your progress so often.

Nhl 26 still contains fairness adjustment offsets. Expect all kinds of ai adjustments each game. Community insists on utilizing all the defects in the game to win since these adjustments minimize the possibility of playing clean. Solid accurate review right there
