It's straight out of 1989, and that makes it either archaic or retro-cool comfortable. With Capcom's steady attention to polish and presentation, Lost Planet falls into the latter category more often than not. And even if it's familiar, it's definitely not repetitive. [Jan 2007, p.48]

Really, this is a game of strong, simple virtues: knockout action, beautiful character design, lovingly articulated models, crisp sound and overall polish. Every now and then it'll overstretch, at which point it falls. [Jan 2007, p.76]
It does what it says on the tin, and delivers heart-pounding explosions, pant-wetting big alien monsters and hordes of minions to slay. If you can overlook the fact that it doesn't challenge your Xbox 360 either intellectually or technically, and you can just get down and dirty with some big guns and even bigger odds, then you and Lost Planet are going to get along just fine. [Issue 20, p.50]

This game was not only ahead of its time but during these days (yeah...) this type of plot and space colonialism in games was new. This game brought a feeling of comradery most games did not have until Destiny and Gears of War. The gameplay was fun as hell, the story was basic but original, and the characters not only cared about what they were doing but they had that PS3/ 360 days passion devs put on them.

From the well planned and executed single player campaign to the never-ending online battles, it’s one of those rare games where you feel like you got every penny’s worth and then some. [JPN Import]

Japanese developers need to bring more class games like this to our markets to remind us that not every game needs to be western in origin, ideas, and style.

In spite of missteps, if you can find yourself enjoying what Lost Planet does well (which is a lot), you’re bound to experience one hell of a ride that at times gets close to perfection, but just happens to miss its mark.

A little restraint may have resulted in a stronger game, but Lost Planet: Extreme Condition has its grand moments when you escape a wild shootout in supreme satisfaction of your dirty work. [Feb 2007, p.40]

Playing Lost Planet is like battering "Ghouls and Ghosts" for the first time. You simply won't believe how stunning it looks. But more imortantly, it's one of those games that pits you against incredible odds and satisfies by making it just about possible to beat them! [Jan 2007, p.8]

It’s great for a while, and then takes a steep nosedive into the realm of mediocre shooters. The potential was there, but the sloppy implementation of features is ultimately Lost Planet’s downfall.

At the end of the day, playing Lost Planet is like dating a supermodel with personality problems: it's great looking and has the potential for good times, but ultimately, it's just not worth the trouble. [Feb. 2007, p.64]

BioShock, The Last of Us, Deus Ex: Human Revolution!

Lost Planet is nothing entirely unique, but it's a fine experience if you're into third person shooter/mech hybrids. It's a rather quick game to buzz through; I finished in about 4-5 hours on normal difficulty, earning 175 gamerscore. The missions are pretty mundane but the boss fights are a decent reward. I enjoyed the musical compositions, the art style, and the T-ENG mechanic essentially "timing" the missions and keeping the player focused on efficiency. An additional positive was the option to change the player perspective from third to first person (only while on foot). Most of my frustrations with this game are due to the clunky controls and pacing. Traversing missions on foot takes way longer than it needs to, and there's not much to look at along the way in regards to level design. The game encourages you to use a VS (mech) to get around when possible, but it proves to be pretty annoying in tighter spaces on certain levels. Larger enemies love to push you into corners or up against walls, stunlocking you and forcing the camera to stare at the ceiling so you have no clue what's happening. Also, be sure to position yourself in the perfectly precise frame to get the correct B button prompt, or you may end up removing your VS' weapons instead of entering it mid-battle. Overall, I am confident that I will never revisit this game, but it doesn't belong in the dumpster. Pros: music, boss fights, art style, t-eng mechanic, third to first person options Cons: level design, controls, pacing, and forgettable/cheesy/cliche plot

The original Lost Planet is just as bad as it's sequel, with pretty much all the same problems, including the broken checkpoint system which will send you back multiple levels......F*CK THIS GAME!

SummaryIn Lost Planet, human snow pirates navigate VS (Vital Suits) through hostile ice-covered environments, fighting against the indigenous Akrid creatures for the precious thermal energy they need to survive. For one such pilot named Wayne, death almost seemed imminent until he was fortunately rescued. However, he can only remember a few fra... Read More
