It's a solid experience with a somewhat steep learning curve...and a surprisingly deep skill system.

Though it might appear a little dated, the game offers some innovative features, such as the addition of the Dreamworld, combined with a good story.

The game plays well, and although the character abilities aren’t particularly original (elemental attacks, etc.) this is more a criticism of the whole genre, and Kult has a refreshing system to learn and use them. The story is a strong point too, which for an RPG is probably the most important aspect for most players.

Overall, Heretic Kingdoms is fun, fun, fun and destined to be a sleeper hit. The few niggles never really affected my enjoyment of the game. With its engaging story and completely different skill system, it's definitely worth your while to pick it up and play.

The story is innovative, and so is the attunement system and the character advancement system.

Proves that innovation is alive and well. RPG fans should play it just to experiment with the refreshing attunement system, and anyone interested in a well written – though reading intensive – story will find the $30 price tag attractive.

In all, Heretic Kingdoms does more new things in one game than I’ve seen in the last dozen games I’ve played combined. That’s a good thing, and it almost makes up for the game’s technical problems.

A solid game, but the lengthy pauses that occur whenever you access your inventory can really become frustrating.

It works, but we have a sense of been there and done that. What keeps the game interesting and compelling is watching the growth of the main character.

Kult may shake up a few areas but doesn’t change the formula, it’s like using a slightly deeper shade of purple and nobody notices. There’s a good storyline in here and if you’re up for some RPG action, Kult should be on your mind. Just don’t expect anything new.
