If the foes were cunning enough to make every encounter unique, or the game made better use of the verticality inherent in the premise, Dark Void would have fared a whole lot better, but ultimately, it's a disappointing title that never manages to leave the tarmac. [Feb 2010, p.78]

Tedious ground combat makes up the majority of the game, and the cool cover concept and sci-fi story are strong, but blown opportunities. [Feb 2010, p.86]
The jetpack might be a nice gimmick, but it’s not innovative enough to carry an entire game, especially since vertical cover can only be used in certain places. Everything else in Dark Void is as generic as generic can be. The level design, enemies, weapons and story, nothing stands out particularly. But for an eight hour single player-only experience, it should have.

After experiencing the disaster of re6 I couldn't help but think it was the worse action game ever made from a major studio especially Capcom and does dark void dirty in comparison. Dark void is far from perfect it's good but not great. The only thing that dampers it experience is the aerial combat. I'm not proud of it but aerial combat missions just resulted in lowering difficulty to casual. Not because it was hard but to lower frustration.

This game is fun when it keeps growing in different gameplay styles from flying to shooting to gliding to all of that that is fun fun when it's the same gameplay in half an hour what it gets tedious. Like the story like the game played the problem was that shooting robots is not very satisfying and it feels like they are all bullet sponges. the game was flying on all cylinders It was really fun and flying and shooting and gliding and doing all the stunts. It was good. It was only when you have to do one thing in a long time then it got tedious.

An exemplary piece of game design that makes narrative ignorance all the easier. [Issue#55, p.86]

The concept of Dark Void is great and the gameplay generally works fine. Unfortunately, the story isn’t interesting and far too short.

[Retracted original review] It's a decent 3rd person shooter, and added to the usual UE3 cover system by adding in vertical cover. The dialogue wasn't great but it was a laugh anyway.

Wow this game got robbed in reviews. I was really hesitant about getting this game because of the rating. I gotta tell I was pleasantly surprised. It has GOW third person cover system and familiar sounds. Spec Ops voice actor, and its combat is three dimensional. It has flying too. Sure its not a perfect game but what is.

Dark Void has some enjoyable moments, but its poor control scheme and forgettable IA makes its gameplay pretty boring.

Dark Void doesn't stand out in a crowded genre; it's just another another action game that never fulfills its potential.

It's just a damn shame that the nigh-amazing "The Rocketeer versus UFOs" premise crashes hard into "tepid Gears of Uncharted knock-off" ground.

It's hard not to feel sorry for Dark Void. It feels like all it ever wanted to be was a popcorn B-movie blockbuster, and there are plenty of moments where you can see how it might have managed it. But they're all so disparate, so badly arranged, that its latent charm is completely lost.

Dreary and annoying in equal parts, this is a game best left avoided.

This game gets a much harder time than it deserves. Sure, it's not perfect and it's not pushing any boundaries or innovating new gameplay mechanics but it is DAMN FUN. I enjoyed playing this game more than a lot of the glossy triple-A games that have been released. Bottom line: If you're looking for a fun game where you get to fly around like The Rocketeer and shoot at bad guys then give this a try. If, on the other hand, you only like polished, big budget games then this one isn't for you.

Bought this game for $5 and I couldn't be happier. While the story, graphics, A.I and controls are sub par. The joy of flying, and the amazing soundtrack make up for this game. It may not be the prettiest game out there but this game is simply fun. Shooting the Watchers makes for a good time and you could do worse for how cheap this game is. I completely recommend trying this game if not only for the soundtrack. McCreary is the composer for this game's outstanding music score and he also did Battlestar Galatica, so you know it is great.

While it may be a bargain bin game it's still a lot of fun, and the story behind it all is really unique, perfect for fans of cheesy Sci-Fi movies, it reminds me a lot of the movie Avatar because of the environment, the main part of this game is the flying which takes some getting used too, do to touchy controls, but eventually you'll get the hang of it, but never really feels as smooth as it should, same goes for the combat while flying, ground combat however is your basic 3rd person shooter, all in all it's very fun at times but start of slow, but if your looking for something new, and are a huge fan of cheesy Sci-Fi movie you'll love this, but I would recommend a rental first.

it's a mediocre game, in all senses. the TPS parts look a lot like a gears of war wannabe, the jetpack parts are mostly just frustating, the bosses are easy and just bad. the scenario is sometimes so dark you end up not knowing where to go because of the dark scenario where you can't see what's around you well. the history is foolish and totally non-sense. The final boos is a ender dragon on steroids that's actually much easier than the real ender dragon. the only great part was the prison escape chapter, chapter III of the third episode shows a gears of war knock-off, and actually, i would recommend a game that does what this tried, but well. Instead of buying this, that may look cheap and promising, take a look at Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, it will surely be way better than Dark Void.
