Maybe if I was 7 years old this show would be okay. As an adult who loved the early Star Wars films (and Andor, recently) the Acolyte just comes off as corporate junk, poorly written and badly staged. Disney, you have really dropped the ball.
While the cast is solid, the writing is mediocre at best, with awful dialogue. Just a small example: "Sometimes even the right reasons have the wrong consequences," says Ahsoka, as though speaking some deep Zen truth. Does that even make sense? How can a consequence be wrong?
What started out as a fairly grounded story of space exploration, by season three has devolved into a ridiculous melodrama full of bad dramatic tropes worthy of a Michael Bay disaster movie.
Two episodes in, there's been no effort to flesh-out any of the characters introduced. This lack of characterization has seriously undercut the emotional impact of certain events. Another weakness I find, the character behaviors seem irrational, silly, or just unrealistic. On the positive side, the production is excellent and the show does have Rebecca Ferguson. For now, I'll continue watching, hoping there's something original in the core mystery.
