Genuinely one of the best JRPGs you'll ever play. An absolute delight with deep combat, excellent level of difficulty, and an open world that truly makes you engage with the things around you.
I truly loved Dawntrail's story. Its initially simple premise lends itself fantastically to layered storytelling and three dimensional characters. Almost every step of the journey deeply engaged me. Every character charmed me. Every location wowed me. The storytelling is so elegantly done. You learn about the characters through how they all engage with the plot in different ways, and the central theme of legacy and memory is told in so many beautiful ways, be it through a celebration of culture and how cultures are shaped by the past and those who walk before you, expressed through a plea for you to seek understanding with others, and growing to appreciate and care for people through understanding their culture, heritage, and beliefs, but also how culture can shape someone for the worse and give lasting generational trauma. The themes are also expressed through loss, what we leave behind, how we become immortal in death through being remembered. Also the music absolutely bangs, the art is amazing, voice acting was charming, graphics update is phenomenal, and the new gameplay is exhilarating
