Bluey: The Videogame

My 5-year-old found it dull and short — and that’s despite not knowing that this buggy and uninventive 1-hour experience cost us $40. I gave it one extra point for how the game somewhat decently reproduces the show’s art style. Everything else is just a disgrace: the games, stories, and adventures feel like the complete opposite of Bluey — nothing to do with the show we loved for its creativity, good humor, and kindness. A textbook example of a shameless cashgrab.

This game has magnificent art, lighting, and atmosphere. Beyond that, every other aspect of the game is a lazy and heavily bugged disaster.

Got it for free via PS+, expected nothing, yet still very disappointed with the sluggish, pointless gameplay that requires too much time and so little thinking. This game feels more like an idler than an RTS.

I spent about half an hour trying to get through the tutorial (by the way, I got the strong impression that the game's creators don't want players unfamiliar with the Death Note universe—at the very least, they spend zero seconds explaining who all these people are and what their goals are; without context, everything happening looks downright insane). All of this just to then spend another hour sitting in the lobby, waiting for the lobby leader to start the game, and experiencing anticlimactic crashes whenever a key player leaves the match for one reason or another. I'm willing to put up with complex entry conditions if the game is worth it and provides at least some fun, but as it stands, the gameplay is just a drag, not worth the time invested. Fans of the universe might have more motivation to overlook the gameplay’s flaws, but from an outsider's perspective, this project looks incredibly disappointing.

Pros: The game boasts a captivating atmosphere with an aesthetically pleasing combination of graphics and music.Cons: Unfortunately, the controls and game design leave much to be desired. The poorly placed save points, along with clunky movement mechanics, compel players to replay the same segments numerous times—often 10 to 20 iterations—while significantly extending the duration of each attempt. In my four hours of gameplay, I found myself dying nearly 100 times due to issues beyond my control, including game glitches, awkward layouts, and subpar design choices. Collectively, these factors render the game nearly unplayable and overshadow any positive aspects it might possess.

Everything is perfectly realized in this game, except for the fights. But unfortunately, the fights make up a good half of the game. And they last so long! — Combat animations are drawn out (I often gave up on an optimal move just so I wouldn't have to watch a 30-second punch animation or bother with boring timing clicks). You've seen one fight, you've seen them all. Yes, there will eventually be shields, character stealing, and other variations - but none of them will affect the player's strategy: pick the best strike from a couple options and wait 30 seconds for the next move. I like most of the things the game does. But unfortunately, the magic didn't happen for me personally — after 10 hours of strenuous combat, the game turned into a "podcast game" for me, and with that lost any chance of deep immersion.

Visually Stunning but Lacks Substance "Kena: Bridge of Spirits" impresses with its beautiful art-style and enchanting music. However, the gameplay falls short, feeling repetitive and lacking innovation. The platforming mechanics are solid but fail to evolve throughout the game. The lack of variety in challenges and level design makes it monotonous. The characters and story lack depth and originality, failing to develop meaningful personalities or deliver a compelling narrative. Despite its shortcomings, the game still provides moments of joy and wonder through exploration and puzzle-solving. However, the overall experience is overshadowed by underwhelming gameplay and storytelling. For those prioritizing visuals and atmosphere, "Kena: Bridge of Spirits" may appeal, but it leaves players wanting more in terms of engagement and fulfillment.

While in it's core this game has this nice and simple idea that gamifies the experience of communication itself and provides it's player with some interesting insights into how we talk — it is just happens to be incredibly boring. Slow paced mediocre dialogues with only music to enjoy. Gameplay itself seems somewhat fun at the beginning, but right when you expect it to become somewhat skill-based it becomes 100% luck based. Nice music, interesting idea. Everything else is just too raw.

This game assumes you'll jump in for quick little 20-minute sessions daily. Except all in all it takes around 4,5 minutes to load from the ps4 menu to the island itself. And considering it's not a game you will play exclusively for 90 days ("Punctuality: Elite" trophy states "Play on multiple days: 90") get ready to spend around 20% of your playing time waiting for this tiny little 2D island to load. It also stutters quite a lot. So it might be a cute little mobile game on other platforms but as a PS4 port, it is a disaster.

While this game has intriguing escheresque art style, it sells itself as a physics game and fails on every level: it plays so slow, so the only reasonable way to play it is to think through the whole level (sometimes with pen and paper) and only then push the necessary buttons. It controls as well as driving a car in thick thermogloves at night, while laying on car's roof. In shades. And at the same time it sometimes requires you to be pixel-perfect. Puzzles are decent, but not good enough to torture yourself with this game-play for more than an hour.

This game amazed me with the amount of details and attention. Story has short and bold arcs, evolution of the charters and believable connections between them. Voice acting and animations are cutting edge, while open-world activities are bit plain at parts, but still provide a lot of fun and participate in overall storytelling. I could speak of the things I loved about this game for hours, while not much about things I didn't. Hence 10/10.

I wonder if this game was ever play-tested. Every loading screen I've had (and I've had a lot of them, due to the game's "puzzle" design) my whole angle of view were rotating anti-clockwise by 2-4 degrees. I've ended my play through having to turn my head by 90 degrees and controller being all over the place. And since whole PS UI worked as intended, this problem sure is an in-game bug. Puzzles were so secondary and light-weight, it makes me wonder how it's even possible to screw them so badly. From idea to animations, to mechanics, to puzzles, to UI — this game feels so sloppy, it makes me wonder if it was just a result of a one-week hackatone, which no-one ever bothered to polish. Good thing it is short.
