Gateway to Caen is the 7th installment of Close Combat Series, and is also the last close combat game using a 2D engine: the next Close Combat game, "The Big Red One" will be the first CC with a 3D engine. GTC is very similar to the last CC game, Panthers in the fog, you can even say it is like an expansion of PITF, but the improvement is obvious: the explosion of the tanks, artillery shells and airstrike is so realistic, it is almost like watching a war movie. The AI, I hav to acknowledge, is still as **** as the previous versions, but Close Combat is never a game to play alone. Find a competent opponent in the multiplayer lobby, and play a grand campaign, you will find that Close Combat is THE best tactical war game franchise ever made. Gateway to Caen is no exception, its background is set at Operation Epsom, an british offensive that took place between 26-30 June 1944, during the Battle of Normandy. I don't want waste more words on how good the game is, just try to play with another human being in the lobby, either a battle, operation, or a campain, I'm sure you will be hooked.
