Elden Ring/Erdtree is my favorite game ever, but this 20min round, running at lightning speed, multiplayer boss challenge mode is awful. My love of the universe makes me want to keep revisiting this hoping it gets better, but honestly this game is garbage. This is the first FROM SOFTWARE game I didn’t think was amazing and it’s terrible. I can’t figure out who this is for or what it’s suppose to be but it’s not fun at all. I hope they stop this nonsense and remember what made them both respected and commercially successful in the first place.

Great RPG, Terrible Platformer. Yes, the battle system, graphics, character design, and story are all great, but there are some big problems with the execution. Level design is poor, the menu diving during battles is "fashion over function", and they throw in Ro-blox style parkour courses (obbys) - only your character is on the left side of the screen with an over-the-shoulder camera, so pushing up on your controller moves you on an angle towards the vanishing point, instead of straight. Being not nearly as good as Ro-blox at something means they should have just cut those parts out. While exploring, sometimes there are invisible walls to stop you from going over cliffs, sometimes there are not. The story is dark and mature, but there is WAY TOO MUCH CRYING, to the point where I just couldn't take it seriously anymore. The music was also annoying and overly serious, no memorable themes and some odd upbeat battle music that seemed out of place - not in the same league as Nobuo Uematsu (FF). If you like JRPGs, this is a no-brainer to check out, but it's far from a perfect game.

I won’t go find soup ingredients while I’m out trying to stop the earth from dying. I’m forcing myself to like this game but it’s not working. Instead of assembling a team after the events of the last game, nothing has changed, everyone still tries to worship anything with a blinky light, and the "forbidden" west is filled with all your old incompetent friends who managed to arrive before you. No one in the world can even tie their own shoelace without the help of the shallow and poorly written Alloy, and the entire game is just filler material with boring fetch quests. I can't think of a worse sequel.

I was completely addicted to this game start through finish, but looking back, it’s flaws are more memorable than the great gameplay. This is of course from the same director as Castlevania Symphony of the Night on PS1, and improves on that great game in many ways. Where it really lacks is the art direction, character design, and the music (which something SOTN was known for). All of that feels very generic in Bloodstained. Where this game shines is the gameplay, the precise control/combat that is simply a joy, and the classic level design that defines a “metroidvania”. After beating this game I went back to play SOTN, to check my memory, and the minor details like the geometric patterns on the wall, the trails Alucard”s movement leaves behind, the way the skeletons shake all just ooze style that Bloodstained just lacks. SOTN had jaw-dropping bosses I remembered for decades, like the giant sphere of reanimated corpses white bodies wriggling off crawling as you attacked, where as Bloodstained has lame bosses like a dudes face on a snake grunting cringe-worthy expressions. Overall - the mechanics are great, but the art elements lack style. I’ll still play the sequel!

God of War is known for brutal over the top fluid combat, with a dark narrative. This has none of that. It's a sentimental journey to bury your dead wife and reconnect with your son with clunky combat, in an extremely linear experience with very repetitive encounters and a terrible camera. Your main weapon is an axe, it feels very heavy and cumbersome like an axe should, but not that fun when you have to manually recall it every time you throw. All the money was spent on the pretty graphics, and none on gameplay. The level design is awful, it's pretty much a track-based game with the obligatory hidden treasure chests. The map bites off open-world games, but this is far from open world - you pretty much keep waking straight until the next cut-scene. The cut scenes are short and more action-packed than the actual game - sliding down the side of a mountain is much more fun when you can control your character. I'm very disappointed in both the game, and the obviously purchased before the game's release, fake reviews. This will be $20 by the holidays, if you must try this turd then at least wait until it's on clearance.

Great game. Fantastic level design. Immersive dark gory world. Just as hard as the souls games, if not harder. It's rare to see such an underground, hard-core title get so much hype, but this definitely deserves it. The one glaring flaw is the painfully long load the screen that you have to suffer through every time you die, which is a lot. You die a lot in this game, but the feeling of accomplishment getting through a level or to the next checkpoint is great..

Survival horror at it's finest. If you ever griped about Resident Evil losing it's roots by becoming an action shooter, this game is for you. You spend most of the game limping around with little health and not enough ammo to take down what is chasing you. Great fun that doesn't sell out to the lowest common denominator like most modern games do.

The graphics look like PS2. Bushes and shrubs in the environment are blocks like Minecraft. I feel seriously ripped off for paying $60 for this ugly mess. To add insult to injury the game comes with the demo for FFXV which looks great. That being said, I like the hack'n'slash gameplay, the dark story, and there is a lot of content under the hood, but after about 15 hours in it still feels like a PS2 classic I somehow missed 10 years ago.

This is the next FPS from the guys who made Halo, with some poorly implemented MMO elements. Many of the user reviewers have clearly never played a MMO, and this has all the repetitive enemies, quests, and town runs for rewards MMO players are used to, without the diversity in gameplay most MMOs offer - This game is ONLY shooting. For anyone thinking this is a RPG you will be disappointed. All 3 classes are shooting classes, and all your new abilities just make you shoot better despite Warcraft lifted class names like "Warlock", and powers like "Voidwalker". The gameplay is a series of shoot-outs, well done, but very repetitive with little deviation. You play on a series of large maps with extremely repetitive structures and environments, so it does not have that open world feel at all. All the cool fights are instanced, and you can only group with your existing friends even though other solo players are in the environment. There is no block system, so crouching behind barricades is your defense. Parts of this game are horrible attempts at things that are the norm in other genres. The story is not as clear as Halo, but feels like Halo. The shooting and graphics are really good. Another user review said "deceptive marketing", and I couldn't agree more.

In every battle there is a button asking you to spend real world money on in-game items like your playing some free Korean mmorpg. Why does no one else see this as a major issue? I already bought the game, but it still wants more of my money, this is a huge flaw for me. Other than that the game lives up to the hype, and is a must play for jrpg fans. The brave/default battle system works, but you do end up inputting a ton of commands for battles that take a couple seconds to execute, which only stands out because everything else is so streamlined. The story is good with dark and serious themes, but the light hearted overtone puts a limit on how emotionally attached you will become with the characters.

Being a huge Shin Megami fan, I originally rated this title a 7 due to it's clunky PS1 style dungeon controls and shallower story than SMTIII. After some more time with this title I am dropping my score to a 4. The level design is horrible, you should not need to use a guide or walkthrough to get through a game, but there is never a clear path to the next goal, and random encounters are pretty much unavoidable. You can only have 1 active mission at a time, so a simple marker on the map would have made this a much easier experience. In the dungeons, you move with the analog stick, but if you want to go up or down a simple ramp or ladder, you have to use the D-pad, and then go through a confirmation screen, just to get a visible item on top of a box. Aside from the 3DS visuals, there is nothing about this game that feels like it came out in 2013. It's nice to see a new roster of demons, but many seem uninspired. The music is not even as good as previous SMT titles. The story is also pretty bland for the SMT universe. If you are a hardcore jrpg fan or smt fan, you will do what you need to get through this title, but it feels like a step backwards for the series, which is a shame.

Diablo III should meet your expectations if you're already a fan of the series, but it does have obvious failures. Having to log in to **** to play a single player game is stupid. This is not an MMO. It makes no sense that they make the game low-res enough to run on Windows XP from 2001 because they want everyone to be able to play, but then assume everyone has broadband. Outside of California the internet has dead zones, and there are times you just want to forget online exists and immerse yourself in a single player dungeon crawler of which Diablo used to be king of. The streamlined gameplay is fun, and the art direction is good, but it's missing the gloss of being a 2012 release. The locations are varied, but you never get to grind out one hardcore dungeon like in the first one. I miss the format of the original Diablo, but this is still a good game and has potential to improve with new content.

A mediocre FPS with fetch-quests will be Dead Island's legacy. I love zombies in games, from Left 4 Dead to Dead Rising, even CoD's **** Zombie maps I love, however this title is in a league below those great games. It feels like a great concept that was never fully realized. Everything about this game is what you'd expect from a game in 2011 without offering anything new or innovative. Being able to collect xp and build your abilities is hardly a new concept, and fetch-quests only compel me to turn off my system. 4 player co-op is fun, but hardly as fresh or exciting as older zombie games with the same feature.

Great game, awful story. I was excited to see Atlus make a game where the characters are adults hanging out at the bar having affairs as opposed to the high school themed Persona characters they usually feature. In the Persona series, you have to make real relationships with other people to level up traits that benefit your dungeon battles. In Catherine you hang out with people in one location, but your interaction does not impact the game in any significant way. I didn't feel like I had any control over the protagonist's decisions, and disliked the linear fashion the narrative was presented. Also, one key spoiler is fairly obvious at the beginning to many players, making the rest of the story hard to suffer through. The block climbing gameplay is where this game stands out, and is the reason this game is good. There is no way to describe how compelling it is to get to the top of the block wall without playing it yourself, and it makes all other games where you have to manipulate blocks seem elementary. The puzzles are a perfect blend of thought and action, and I'm keeping this game in my collection based on that alone.

Don't believe the hype. This is nothing more than a decent action game that feels like it should have been released in 2007. The promises of "play any way you want" means a choice between stealth or assault, on maps with alternate paths. Nothing you have not seen before. The writing and voice acting are terrible, especially when compared to games like Mass Effect 2 or LA Noire, and the mannequin like animations reminded me of GTA IV. The worst part about this game is it's shamefully poor renditions of real world cities none of the staff have obviously ever visited. The game starts off in Detroit 16 years in the future with buildings that are miles apart in real life, renamed and placed next to each other on roads that either don't exist, or are not supposed to intersect. This is not an open world game either, the maps are very restrictive, and if you fail a mission, instead of restarting, you continue on with all the other characters telling you how disappointed they are with your performance. They marketed that as a feature. What really threw me off were the high reviews from sources I usually trust. When a game is this well received, it usually does either something truly innovative, or raises the bar on an enjoyed gameplay mechanic. This game is nothing more than a collection of elements from other genres of games that do what this is trying to do better.

This game is not in 3D! There is a great 3D animated intro, but after that the game pretty much takes place on the bottom screen. I am a huge Shin Megami fan, and skipped the DS version of Devil Survivor, so the new version was one of the reasons I bought a 3DS. The game itself plays like all the other SMT games, collecting/fusing demons, with the added element of grid based srpg battles where when you do face your enemy, the battle plays out like any other SMT game. The game itself is on par with the other SMT games, and more animated than Strange Journey, so if 3D is no big deal and you just need a good jrpg, you will be very happy with this title. The biggest disappointment is that this is a remake **** that just came out a couple years ago, on a new system that is selling itself on new technology (3D), and wasn't remade to take advantage of that technology. Ghost Recon did an amazing job of taking the standard SRPG grid and turning it into 3D eye candy and that was a launch game! This game was delayed a few months after the original release date, so I was at least expecting something similar. This is the most disappointed I've been with Atlus ever.
