Wow, I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. The disappointing thing about most horror movies is they usually feel like a bunch of scary scenes lazily strung together with some lackluster storyline. "It" actually feels like a real movie that just happens to be scary, which is how the best horror movies are. The writing, the acting, the thrills, and the cinematography are all very spot on. I'm especially impressed with how well all the child actors performed. As far as scariness goes, it's not necessarily super scary, but almost every scene manages to be thrilling in some way, so overall it's very intense and very fun. I would definitely recommend "It". It's a very satisfying horror movie, a worthy remake, and I'm definitely looking forward to chapter two!

The Witch is one of those movies that makes pretentious movie critics **** their pants, but leaves everyone else confused as to why this is categorized as horror at all. If you watch this movie without expecting to be scared at all, then maybe it will be more enjoyable. To be fair, there are a lot of good things this movie has going for it. The acting is great, the imagery is bleak and creepy, and parts of the plot are somewhat interesting. That being said, this is also an incredibly frustrating movie because it moves along so slowly and builds up all this tension with very little payoff. If you like suspenseful movies or historical pieces, then you might enjoy this, but if you're looking for a good horror movie, The Witch comes nowhere close.

This was actually a surprisingly good horror movie. Aside from the whole deaf/mute thing, I can't say it's the most creative horror movie out there, but it was rather entertaining to watch. I really like that there's very little setup or plot, and once the action starts, it doesn't stop. It's a pretty relentless movie, and I was honestly anxious the entire time watching it. I'm also glad the protagonist, Maddie, was reasonably smart, so I was rooting for her the entire time. Overall, if you like a good, mindless horror movie, definitely check this one out.

The good news is that this movie was at least mildly entertaining. It gave me a few laughs here and there, and I thought the acting was pretty good. Unfortunately, I really just couldn't get over how illogical the plot was. The back and forth antics between the couple and the frat was ridiculous and initially funny, but as the movie progressed, it got to the point where I just wasn't buying it. Also, I'm really sick of Zac Efron playing the same damn character in every movie. I'm beginning to think he only gets these roles because he's attractive.

Pitch Perfect 2 was actually more entertaining than I expected it to be. There were some genuinely funny moments and the pacing was nice. That being said, this movie felt a lot like a 2 hour recreation of Glee, but with the cheesiness amplified by 10 (if you can even imagine that being possible). I get that that's sort of their schtick, but there were parts that were cringeworthy, and I wished they had focused more on character development rather than the cookie cutter plot. Also, Fat Amy was the clear highlight.

The Sacrament was surprisingly good. This is the kind of thriller/horror movie I like: realistic, not over-the-top, and compelling. Some of the critics say the plot moved along too slowly, but as someone who has an extremely short attention span, I was actually thoroughly captivated by this movie. It was really interesting to watch the mystery of this cult unfold, and it seemed like they were first and foremost trying to tell a story rather than trying to shock you, which is much more important in my opinion. Also, for being an obviously low budget film, the production value was really good, and the acting was top notch. I legitimately thought this was a Vice documentary for the first 10 minutes!

A pathetic excuse for a movie. Human Centipede III is poorly written, poorly executed, needlessly vile, shameless, pointless, illogical, annoying, and boring. The previous two movies set the bar pretty low, but somehow this movie managed to be even worse. It seems as if the director is desperate to make the most disgusting movie ever. On some level he succeeded, but it's not really disgusting in the way that makes some horror movies enjoyable. It's just dumb, and pathetic, and laughably bad. Also, the prison warden's unintelligible antics are especially grating. Spare yourself 102 minutes and go watch something else, anything else.

An absolutely incredible film, and probably one of my favorites ever. This is cinematic realism at its absolute finest. Everything about it, the characters, their conversations, and their mundane everyday experiences are captured in a way that mimics real life like no other film I've ever seen, not to mention watching the characters literally grow up before your eyes is surreal and deeply fascinating. This movie is basically just a bunch of scenes documenting this kid's life, some of which will make you laugh, make you sad, make you nostalgic, make you hopeful, etc. There really is no overarching plot, but nonetheless, I feel like I could have sat through another 3 hours of this movie! The acting is also some of the most natural and effortless I've ever seen. The characters seem strangely familiar in everything they say and do, which I suppose is the point. Overall, Boyhood leaves you feeling satisfied and somewhat in awe at how incredible our lives are once you put things into perspective.

I completely understand why the critics raved about this movie, although I feel like the civil rights movement is one of those subjects that will elicit great reviews no matter what. I'll admit that the movie was executed rather well, with strong acting and well-written dialogue, but overall this just wasn't a movie I cared about. MLK's character was disappointingly underdeveloped, and the pacing was pretty slow, especially the last half hour (and I'm typically not a fan of history lessons to begin with). Also, I couldn't help but feel like this movie was a bit pointless. Race relations are certainly contentious these days, but EVERYONE at least realizes that voting equality is a no-brainer. If this movie is trying to make a political statement (which is probably the case considering the song during the credits), it's not going to change any opinions. However, if it's merely supposed to be a historical lesson, then it serves its purpose, although it is certainly not the first of its kind.
