This game is fantastic. The controls are smooth as silk, the world is large and packed with things to discover. It's a game that really rewards exploration. You are constantly discovering new things, new areas, new bonus items. The combat is challenging without being unfair. Every area is different from the last, and there are more enemy types that I can count. I can't recommend this game highly enough. The most amazing part is that it's made by just 2 people!
Having been a huge fan of the series since the brilliant DS game Picross and seven more games on the 3DS, I had high hopes for this game. However, Jupiter has produced a game that seems flawed and even a little lazy (certainly not up to their standards). Firstly, there is now no penalty for filling the wrong square. Previously there had been a two-, four-, or eight-minute time penalty for wrong attempts. Now there is no penalty which leads to simply guessing. In my opinion this has effectively ruined the game. What's the point in trying to puzzle out the answer when you can simply guess? Secondly, the puzzles used in both picross mode and mega picross mode are the same puzzles. They do not seem to have created unique puzzles for mega picross mode. The puzzles occur in slightly different order (possibly to throw us off) but I have come across many repeated puzzles (enough to make me assume that this continues throughout the game, even though I haven't yet finished it 100%). Lastly, the control scheme is a bit different to the 3DS version. It's not as intuitive and there seem to be no other control options. Earlier versions had at least two control schemes. In general the game is still quite good, but not up to the standard we've come to expect from Jupiter. The DS game Picross remains the best in the series.
