Phantom Brigade is a game where you have the upper-hand on the enemy at all times! Except for the times when they have 4 times your troops. Anyway, enough lategame poking. You have a technology that lets you see 5 seconds into the future, predicting exactly what the enemy is going to do. You are given a 5 second timeline where you can do whatever you want (the only thing stopping you is your mech heating). The game offers many different weapons with different mechanisms as well as different weapons INSIDE those very categories that specialize in different ranges, damage types, etc. The game is entirely depending on your ability to predict the enemy because it really loves to spam a bunch of enemies on you. I personally didnt mind it but I can see some players not being able to control all the action economy. Another complaint I have from the game and that is the boss fights. You know how the game gives the enemy more action economy than you normally ? Well it tries to do that with bosses as well but since the bosses are all single targets, it doesnt really work out which makes the boss fights very much on the easier side than normal fights. Because of all the things happening at the same time even high-end PC's might struggle sometimes and it is to be expected once you see some of the missions later on into the game. I also found some weapon types to be not intended for palyer use and instead for enemy troops to "not deal good damage" to you. Assault rifles, handguns, SMG's all feel very underpowered than missile launchers, the "heavy" category, shotguns and repeaters. But putting all these aside I personally think that this is a great game that any "timeline-turn-based" enjoyers can pick up and have a nice and fun 40 hours in.
The forgotten child of Behemoth. I dont think this game gets the praise that it deserves. The story (just like other games of Behemoth) is pretty absurd and doesnt take itself seriously. Not to say thats a bad thing, I personally enjoyed the funny apocalyptic wasteland much more than I thought I would. There are a good number of units ranging from just having cosmetic changes to entire armor/weapon customisation. I see the game as a deeper "rock paper scissors" match. There are things that directly counter each other but also many things that are neutral to each other. The game gives you many ways to play around with the different type of units you can have on your team as well as how you build them out. My biggest issue with the game is that even though the game gives you many options to play around team comps, it doesnt make them worthwhile most of the time. I can kind of understand that the game is not supposed to be 100% strategy based (as the game itself says at the targeting tutorial) and I also think that the game is kind of intended for people who arent really accustomed to turn based combat as well as for lower age groups so I try not to worry about it. The game still has a very good amount of content for what it's worth and I also think that its a great game for people who want to dip their toes into "turn based combat".
The longest and strangest dream... When it comes to creativity with a touch of "wierd" the first thing that comes to my mind is this game. In the turn based roguelike game standpoint, I find this game to be one of the best in its genre. The pigment system in addition to the unique movement mechanics this game has to offer it is one heck **** when it comes to being different than its peers. There are many references to historical events as well as Hieronymus Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" which the game is very highly inspired by. This game is definetely my favorite roguelike but the reason I am not giving it a 10 is kind of the only issue I see with the game. After going through the same 3 stages for the 5th time, you will have seen every single enemy and boss the game has to offer already and your only variety in runs will be the different characters and items you will get. It's not a huge problem because no item or character is a direct upgrade of anything and most items will impact how you play the game in the playstyle department which adds a lot of variety to my runs but I would still have loved to see more stages or enemies in my runs. At least the game has workshop support which means a lot of mods! If you are looking for a turn based game that is massively different than all the other classic systems you see everywhere, this is the game for you.
One of the very few shooter games I could play without raging at the incompetence of anything but myself. On the surface, the game is pretty simple: Go around, shoot stuff, get money, use said money to get items, repeat. But there is a lot going on behind the scenes and it honestly amazes me just how deep this game can get. The different characters and what items are more effective for them than other items, the character specific techs you can do and many many achievements to unlock and a lot of secrets hidden in every nook and crany. The game has an absurd amount of vanilla content, many DLC's AND mod support. As a person that doesnt really like shooter games this game was the bomb for me. Great game to play with friends to either chill or do unneedingy difficult challenge runs/achievement runs. I personally got the game for dirt cheap and have over 200 hours on it and I absolutely reccomend it to anyone who wants to play basically anything with friends. This game does not dissappoint.
