El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron7
Aug 12, 2013
First lets get this out of the way. The game looks gorgeous. The game's various art styles look really nice and each level looks and feels very distinct. Not to mention that the character and enemy designs look quite good as well. The sound effects do not sound out of place and the music does a nice job of setting the tone And the theme for overboost mode is just fantastic (look it up after reading this). Unfortunately, the majority of problems come from everything that's NOT the graphics and sound design. The combat system revolves around timed button presses and the use of three weapons that for the most part you steal from enemies although during boss fights one of each type will be floating around for you to take. This allows for the need of smart decisions during combat involving which enemies to take out first and which to take a weapon off of. The problem with the combat is not the fact that the system is broken or anything. But the problem comes with the enemies. While varied in appearance and difficulty. They all attack in the same predictable patterns and this can make the combat just seem a bit tedious and boring near the end of the game. Not to mention the random boss encounters that, bar a few exceptions, end when you get your butt kicked to the curb by said bosses. But as I said, the mechanics themselves are not the problem... until you get to some of the 3D platforming. They work well for the parts that you can control the camera yourself. But when the directors view is imposed upon you it becomes really difficult to gauge how far away and what angle you are relative to the platform that you're jumping to. The 2D platforming, while simple, works well with the super tight controls that are still present during the 3D portions of the game. The story is done in an interesting style. Sometimes delivered through regular cutscenes and sometimes during voice overs during gameplay. The story itself is based off of a judeo-christian story and if you aren't really familiar with the source material some of the story elements may go over you head but is still pretty neat. To conclude this review I'd say buy it. At most stores the price went down a bunch and if you're lucky you can find it in the bargain bin. The game's art style and sound design shine through as the best part of the game and the hack and slash mechanics work nicely not to mention the super tight controls and the 2D platforming sections. But just be wary of the somewhat repetitive combat and 3D platforming.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron8

This game is fantastic. It improves upon almost everything its predecessor did and is just an all around fantastic game... for the most part. Let me start on a more negative note this time. This game can lack focus And by that I mean that in almost every stage you're playing as a new character with a huge difference of gameplay style than the last. For instance; here I was shooting the crap out of decepticons as optimus prime in a gears of war-esque couple of stages. And the next I was playing metal gear fall of cybertron as cliffjumper. Thankfully this game provides a good difficulty ramp for each set of stages to allow you to get accustomed to playing as that specific character. Unfortunately once you get the hang of said character, you're immediately switched to a different one. My second and final issue with this game is that levels drag on for at least a half our each but that is remedied by a healthy amount of checkpoints about 5-10 minutes in between each other. Now for the god stuff and there is a lot of that. The graphics in this game are awesome. The game sports a larger variety of locations than the cramped and sometimes creepy corridors of the first game, and these locations look great on a good pc. I highly suggest cranking up the graphics all the way if your computer can handle it. And in each different style of play it brings to the table, it executes fantastically. The voice acting might be a mixed bag for some people as it is campy as heck. For me that's alright and in fact I enjoyed it because it felt like the original transformers cartoon. The soundtrack is composed of amazing sounding orchestral scores that create an atmosphere appropriate to that in the game. And story wise, it's pretty interesting. The premise is pretty much the autobots trying to leave cybertron after the events of the first game. To conclude this review I'm going to say that it is an overall great game. While the game can drag on in its stages and lacks some focus, it makes up for that with pretty much everything else that it does right. Given that, I give this game an 8 out of 10.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault2
May 30, 2013
This game is a cluttered mess complete with horrid framerate issues, lackluster gameplay and graphics that are sub-par compared to a lot of other games that I've seen for the vita. Quite frankly the game is nearly unplayable and from what I've seen on the ps3 version which I've completed: This is a game that I'm pretty sure even the most diehard R&C fans will hate. The only redeemable quality that you can take away from this steaming pile is the fact that the characters are still pretty great as is the humor. But given everything that I've said at the beginning of this review; this is a game that should be avoided.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One6

This is one of those games where it's fun until your friend has to go and you find yourself playing alone. While this game has an excellent coop experience the game fails to deliver as solid of a single player experience as it does in the multiplayer. That accompanied with some pretty annoying bugs and a god awful partner AI and gameplay that feels quite tedious after the first few hours of this game make it seem sub-par when compared to the rest of the R&C speaking of the rest of the series, this game brings very little to the table in terms of new weaponry and instead reuses weapons from previous games. Don't be mistaken though. As i previously stated this game is excellent to play with a friend or two and the online coop works pretty nicely as well. I had almost no connection issues when playing. The game's two major strong points are the charming characters and humor that will have you chuckling at the screen and some pretty fantastic looking environments. And the new weapons that they DO bring out are fantastic... except for the R.Y.N.O... all of those puzzles for a mech suit that holds you back more than anything. Anyways; to conclude this review. This isn't a bad game. But I don't think that this would be a very good entry to the series for people who are interested. In short. If you liked previous ratchet and clank games. You'll probably enjoy this. Just don't go in expecting a game of the same quality and polish as a crack in time.

Pineapple Smash Crew7

An overall great game that will keep you interested for a good while. The controls are really tight and the visuals have a retro look that doesn't seem like the kind that's simply an excuse for poor quality. The gameplay mechanics work well and the variety in grenades is quite good. Not to mention that they are fun as hell to use! Some of my only gripes with this game are ones that are pretty big. For one the variety of missions is really poor and the environments can feel very samey after the first two or three hours into it. And while the mission objectives are mixed up with random boss encounters, there's almost no variety in boss design as I've dumped at least four hours into this game and have only found that they only have very slight differences I.E: recolours and more guns strapped onto them. But for the price of 10$ on steam, I'd say that this is a very complete and fun package and I'd recommend buying it for fans of top down shooter and roguelike fans alike.

Cubemen7

When I saw the trailer for this game I was looking forward to buying it. It combined two of my favorite genres: RTS and tower defense. When I finally bought it I was somewhat disappointed. The graphical style was minimalistic but was still nice to look at. And the various game mods were satisfying (skirmish in particular is really fun to play against friends) not to mention the good amount of maps to play on and a good map editor, and I am pretty excited to see what the community will come up with. Not to mention that it's a good tower defense game. And I stress tower defense. The main mechanic of the game, which is to be able to move your cubemen around the map after being placed was executed quite poorly. I found myself not needing to change their position at all in the majority of maps included in the game. Not to mention that there is only one song that loops over, and over, and over and gets really annoying after a while. There is very little customization other than being able to change the colour of your cubemen. My final verdict, is a 7 out of 10. This is not a bad game by all means. It's a good tower defense game, and the maps where the RTS elements work are really fun. This game would have been a five or a six out of ten if it weren't for the map editor. But even with all it's flaws, I'd recommend this game to fans of tower defense fans and fans of RTS games looking for something different.
