Fallout 769
Nov 15, 2018
IMHO, this is a giant new Fallout game in which I have forfeited VATS for the opportunity to finally play Fallout with friends. I'm loving it. I know people had tons of expectations for it, and that there's been a massive bandwagon against it, but whatever -- I'm having a blast playing it, and that's what matters in the end. Comparisons to Rust abound, but I prefer FO:76 vastly. It's not a "skin," it's Fallout, warts and all. Everything I've done so far has felt like FO4, which I realize some people don't like, but that's their prerogative. Personally, I find it incredibly fun. That's all that matters with a game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR10

I’ve been playing video games since Pong came out. They’re one of my favorite things in life, and I still have every console I’ve ever owned, from my Atari 2600 and ColecoVision right up through my PS4. I have a room set up with video switches where I can, and do, use any of them at any time to play my favorite games. I had never played Skyrim, but have logged hundreds of hours in Fallout 4, which has very similar mechanics and whatnot. I mention this only to give context to this next statement — Skyrim in VR is the greatest gaming experience of my entire life. Period. You will see lots of videos of it posted, you will see thousands of words written about it, but nothing can explain the experience of being IN the game world. I’ve had my PSVR for a year now, and I’ve played a dozen or so games with it, enjoying some more than others, but loving it the whole time. Yet none of it prepared me for this game. Step one: Use the Move controllers, but turn off teleporting. There’s probably a 30-mi Ute learning curve before you’re 100% comfortable with them, but once that last click falls into place it all feels pretty magical. I have always hated the Move controllers, but forced myself to get used to them so I could experience the bow and the magic properly, but in the end I discovered that I love them even in the menus. Bethesda did an amazing job with what I had always assumed were useless, horrible controllers. Long story short, again, best gaming experience ever. No exaggeration, no hyperbole, it’s flat-out all I want to do all day now. I can’t get it out of my head. I had concerns about wearing the headset for long periods, even with a year of experience, but now i’ve sat in-world for over 4 hours at a stretch with almost no discomfort. Get it. Play it. ASAP.

Great Big War Game9

This is easily among the top 5 games I've played on iOS. The AI could definitely use a bit of work, but it still holds a tremendous amount of entertainment value. My first game of this genre was probably The Perfect General on the PC, or Military Madness on the TurboGrafx. Yes, the cutscenes are stupid, but they're not why you play the game, and eventually they did grow on me. This is the sort of game, alongside Shadow Era, Carcassone and Ascension that really gives me hope for the future of the platform. Every day a new zombie game or some retro 8-bit game or some retro 8-bit zombie game arrives, and the pool is diluted. GBWG sits comfortably atop a pile of lesser quality games, giving you outrageous bang for your buck time after time after time. And that's *before* you get to the multiplayer....
