Nobody makes better gameplay/ bullet ballet than Housemarque. Incredibly immersive rougelite experience with the tightest shooting mechanics around. The atmosphere is fantastic, and I can't think **** that has better sound design. Playing with surround sound is unreal. The way the game flows with intense speed and reaction dependency is where it shines. If you like a challenge, but don't like the slow methodical slog of souls games, this might be more your cup of tea. It does feel like they had to compromise Returnal's vision to meet more public appeal which ultimately feels like a downgrade in terms of difficulty and consequence, though you can modify that after the first 2 biomes, and by no means is this game easy. The shield mechanic is a welcome addition that creates a deeper layer to the gameplay. Fantastic performance form Rahul Kohli, but the supporting character arcs do feel flat from a writing perspective, and for some reason the facial responses are off at times. Definitely a game of the year contender. Lots of potential for DLC with this one.

One of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The art direction is simply stunning. In fact it's one of the only games I can say genuinely looks great at 30fps on a base ps5 because of its cinematic nature and smooth optimization. You can play at 60fps if you want, but I prefer the fidelity as the lighting is incredible. You can wander for hours just soaking up the scenery. Lots of attention to detail. Hard to not spend some time in photo mode. The revenge story is more nuanced than at first glance, taking a hard look at grief and loss. There are so many quiet moments of reflection that is appreciated. Meanwhile the world is vast but full of new discoveries, leading to a lot of organic moments. The gameplay is a lot of fun. Definitely a challenge on lethal mode, but it gets easier and makes progressing your character all the better. Is it similar to the 1st game, absolutely, and that's a good thing.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided9
Jan 31, 2024
This game is criminally underrated. The writing is whip smart, balanced, and thought provoking. The team really trusted their audience and didn’t dumb things down. I love Cyberpunk but Deus Ex nails the tone in a way I was looking for. They’re two different games but for context Deus is darker and more mature. The gameplay is addictive. While you can get roped into too much draw searching for items, the world building and sense of choice is super solid. Theres a good mix of stealth, combat, and conversation, while you’re free to bend the rules to the way you want to play. Sad to hear the latest Deus Ex game was canceled, but thank you for all your hard work Edios Montreal.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty9

Phantom Liberty and the base game with the 2.0 update is so much fun to play. You can't even trust user scores anymore, seems like people are just here to bash games. Reccomend trying it out yourself. I haven't encountered any bugs. The gameplay is a blast and I love how the difficulty has been ramped way up in the expansion. The story is engaging and moves with great pace while still giving you the option to spend time bulding up your charachter, doing side gigs, and exploring the impressive verticality of Dogtown. Love it

Until another company makes a football game don’t buy this garbage. The frostbite engine is absolutely atrocious with no sense of physics, just the same pre-programmed goofy animations. This is a recipe for exploiting the game that has nothing to do with football. I won’t even go into how bad EA bombards you with micro transactions cause ya already know. How has there not been a good football game since the PS2 era? Cause there’s no competition, it’s a straight up monopoly.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition9

Some of the best writing in video game history. Yes it’s a slow burn, but that’s why the payoff hits so hang in there. Lots of poetry and depth within each character and quest, this is what elevates The Witcher above so many games. The update brings new fluidity with “quick casting” and much improved visuals thanks to the modder halkhogan. Ray tracing isn’t so stable right now. Cross saving works great. Loving another play through thanks to this free update.
