DISCLAIMER: I have not finished the game yet, my opinion may change Getting Over It is a rage game. It is supposed to be frustrating, so expect to be angry. My problem with the game isn't that it tries to make you angry. The problem is that it is often times not clear I a thing is supposed to make me angry. Like how the camera lag behind you, and with it the cursor, making it harder to reposition your hammer when falling. I am completely unsure if that is even intended, or just a result of the camera and movement systems clashing together. The climbing itself is relaxing in my opinion and the commentary felt engaging. The only time I felt bad was when I got stuck. But that wasn't frustration, but boredom. The climbing and the falls didn't make me angry. But the game is supposed to make you angry, so in a way it failed at that. I still tend to open the game whenever I am stressed to chill out. A rage game shouldn't be like that.
Summary: A charming little game in a world of time hungry beasts. I really enjoyed A Short Hike. The title is self descriptive, it is s short little game about going for a walk. That doesn't mean it lacks any depth though! You are just not saving The World for the hundredth time. I loved the lack of pressure. There also wasn't any filler, the game expertly achieve the feeling of fulfillment with every, even tiny, task. The character withing is really good, with all the quirks and personality behind every NPC. Honestly, most of the time, it didn't even feel like playing a game! I felt like i was talking with real people, and walking up a real mountain. To this day sometimes I just open the game, just to sit somewhere and watch the scenery.
Summary: A lot of the time I felt like I didn't progress at all This game is a great exploration game, and a really good rouge like! However it is not as good in combining these two genres into a single, coherent game. The rouge like nature of Blue Prince unfortunately gets in the way of the story/exploration aspect. Just like in any other exploration game, you have to find clues and then get to a specific place to apply these clues. This however can become infuriating as you struggle to actually get to the room you need to get to. You often times end up with a safe code and no safe to input it to. And while you can manipulate the rng a little bit, these modifications are rare, and very limiting. I spend the most of my runs just getting stuck, when a puzzle element just wouldn't spawn. This is not helped by the fact that the game flashes a big "Day X" screen every time you reset a run. This means that you feel rushed, and amplyfies the feeling that you are not progressing. However, if you manage to get past these roadblocks, you get to experience a genuine mystery, and a fun to learn about story. And the rouge like elements are not bad either. It is really fun, managing your resources and making sure you don't block yourself in. If these were two separate games i would have given both an 8. But together they create a disharmony. To be fair i wouldn't have probably heard or played this game weren't it for this weird mix of genres. It is a fine game.
