Completely underrated film. Crowe is really fantastic. This movie deserves more attention and word of mouth. Superbly written and there is really no weak spot in this glowing cast list.
What a smart film. Long been a fan of the talented Safdie brothers, but it is a delight to see that Josh can make such a wonderful movie on his own. The triumph of this movie is its refusal to flatter either the protagonist or the audience. Marty's self-mythology begins to crack under the weight of its own sustenance. Chalamet has become such a polarizing figure in broader culture, but his utter brilliance is undeniable; what a stellar performance. What makes this movie stand out however is its direction. Simplicity and restraint. And yet, it will make you deeply ponder the cost of success.
A deeply human story that mixes themes of love, family and success, the film paints a beautiful portrait of a couple navigating their life and career through the turbulence that is life. Intoxicating, elegant, bold and authorial. The screenplay feels less like a script and more like a piece of chamber music: precise, lyrical, and resonant long after the final note fades. Even if this isn't the genre you're typically interested in, the movie's sheer emotional honesty will win you over. The themes of hope, resilience and longing will reach any and all audiences.
