Dragon Age: The Veilguard4

Its vibe is too light and modern - it like some insane re-skin cross-blend of a middle class 21st century corporate environment with confortable modern city personalities who've never lived through the hardships of ancient people jammed into an ancient period/fantasy **** socially progressive themes break immersion as they are violently inappropriate in the general setting. This is absolutely the wrong fantasy time period to be discussing super modern social progress, that is tied to a modern world and inextricably so! The present/future setting is the right place to do that, not the past! And don't tell me fantasy isn't based on the dark ages. Just **** you want it to be immersive and sell your dark ages/fantasy setting there should be lots of ignorant, hateful racism, religious bigotry, sexism, clannism, class, and brutality of character as dictated by a brutal life. You should be seeing things and going, man that's **** I making sense? because this IS the **** .. races should be more clearly seperated as populations in fantasy, it just doesn't make sense to have them under one roof. If you want to have different races, explain how they got there and make it make sense! (ie. we hiked for 200 days because of X tragedy, that's why there's white people in the desert - help us). What did Rome know about China? Google it.. not much!

Firaxis - who has allowed xcom to be pushed in this stupid direction?! You are one of the only studios that make serious tactical games, why the hell would your long time customer base (played xcom before firaxis 20 odd years and counting) want to see your excellent game model deteriorated to bring in teenagers? What the hell? Do not do this again. XCOM 2 / WoTC was a masterpiece. Get back to what you are excellent at, let the kids play fortnite.

Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition10

Literally the best isometric RPG I've played in 30 years as a gamer. *and all professional the reviewers say the same sort of thing* Don't sit there reading my review, play the game, play it two player, now go, make haste.

The critics have this one wrong (and steam has no idea what they are talking about) - they should only use isometric RPG players to review games and that is why the user reviews are higher. We, the users are obviously the real deal. I've seen references to Jagged Alliance, Fallout Tactics, DOS, XCOM.... Listen to us, this game has some issues, but it is certainly a great addition to our niche genre and needs to be supported. It's far better than Battletech at release and both of these titles need to live and grow. *What is the complaint against graphics? They are pretty damn good on 3440 x1440 *Combat and stealth are decent, the worst complaint I can give is that soldiers in full cover can be killed in a single turn by a force of 4 or more (can be unfair) *Have not seen enemies shooting through walls, only stepping out and getting good angles, however it's annoying being seen behind a window. *Tutorials need a lot more work and are absent to several features. *World map metagame punishes you too much for not understanding how to progress the plot (you have to do repeat missions as a punishment for not getting it - this needs some work) *Some of the voice acting is really dumb, just change them out. *Not enough diversity of settings (pretty much always big buildings with a few small ones in a urban area. *Creative Forge - look at how Stellaris uses automatic pop up tabs when you hover over icons - this keeps the tutorial content down, but lets you figure out what all those little icons over characters means - you need more of that. *This is a hardcore isometric turn based game, it was obviously not made to be liked by the masses - if you are not already a fan of the genre, you will have to work hard to learn it and like it. *Progress can feel very slow when you don't know how to progress the story line and get access to new content.

A Way Out10
Jul 23, 2018
I only bother to write reviews when I think the existing ones are wrong and they are. (xcom2, skyrim, witcher, mass effect tril, COH2, stellaris, GTA 5, Divinity Original sin 1/2 are our favs). A Way Out is one of the most perfectly put together games I have ever had the joy of playing coop made for coop. It feels like a AAA game that is extremely well optimized and with consoles in mind, occasionally it has the best realism graphics I have ever seen in a live action game (NO not at the start). It has incredible variety of mechanics for a SHORT game. We felt very compelled to finish it in one setting. I dunno guys.. why doesn't it get 90? My GF and I have to give it 10 marks. Great job Hazelight. The only complaint the game deserves is that the themes are all very familiar and nothing new storyline wise...

I've played a lot of 4x and RTS (those are prerequisites to not sooking when this game floors you for not thinking ahead). This is my 4X of all time. There's not a lot of games that make you come out and look at the real world with more wonder, feed your imagination, and develop so many areas of brain cognition.

Stellaris: Apocalypse10

Stellaris is becoming a better game every three months or so when new content comes out. There seem to be people who cannot adapt to change - always saying things were better before. Are you kidding? You can actually tactically plan an attack or defence now, what are you people talking about?! They're wrong, hyperlanes as the base travel mode were right. Stellaris has only gotten better on the whole, and you can't have your cake and eat it too. Armies have finally become seriously important. YES! Additionally, if you do not have an RTS or 4X background (mine goes back 25 years), get ready to receive a lot of hard hits, and write a lot of negative sooky reviews. I even get slammed in some playthoughs. Turn the difficulty down if you don't know what you're doing. Apocalypse and Cherryh make one of my favourite games of all time, only better.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut9
Mar 24, 2018
This game deserves around a 8.75 I think. The critics got it right. The combat system and the way characters move around tiles feels clunky, and there aren't enough stealth options. The game not hold your hand enough with some things, while it has a really good tutorial tab on the right, I found myself making choices to character development that stuffed me up a little.. The short review is that, Brian Fargo has come out shooting with a deep, long, and nuanced RPG, and if he doesn't retire too soon, his next game or the one after it will be one of the best RPGS ever made, don't retire yet Brian, your getting close to gold here.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen10
Jan 17, 2018
Age 34 Fav Games - Skyrim, Witcher 3, Mass Effect Trilogy, Stellaris, Sins of a Solar Empire, Company of Heroes 2, Divinity Original Sin 1+2 *Immersion and/or Strategy for me* Xcom 2 was already a good game, worthy of 88-90 on metacritic. With all the DLC and WotC it is now one of the very best strategy games ever made (I've played just a few of them..) It is seriously fantastic and has so much content, so many good ideas. I'm a bit disappointed in the 7.7 user review here.. This game is now atleast as good as D:OS2 but marked harshly... But I believe it's all due to one thing. THE GODDAMN DIFFICULTY LEVEL!!! It's BIGGEST, WORST, UNACCEPTABLE MISTAKE FIRAXIS. Most people are not strategy game veterans like myself and my mates that love this game. They get hammered by Xcom's four difficulty settings. Please change the first three firaxis, people are disliking your game because your difficulty settings don't match their expectations and they are getting frustrated, this would have earned you several more points on metacritic. No one wants to select rookie difficulty, do an analysis, it's a psychological thing. Rookie - This is really normal difficulty in any other game - you don't have an easy mode! Veteran - This is the second mode, this is really hard mode Commander - This is insane difficulty, for someone who has over 100 hours in the game Legend - Only for lock-ins playing the game with a rock band controller, full back xcom tattoo and a whip setting on the bench, for when they kill their soldiers

Divinity: Original Sin II10
Sep 21, 2017
These are my fav games (Witcher 3, Skyrim (and F4), Divinity Original Sin EE, XCOM 2, Stellaris, and the Mass effect trilogy) ****you shouldn't take interest in a review unless you share common ground** To me there is no user score for this game below 10 for it's class. ( You can't compare this to the Witcher 3, the budget and class are different). Thank you Sven for bringing the most hardcore DnD style games back into style, I love the stats in conversation (INT etc), the importance of gear and tactics (Seriously complex), the deep and interwoven story and the rest. This should be remembered as one of the very best RPGS ever made, and more it's made for COOP campaign. Sharing this game with your best mate or GF is just supreme. I hope you guys make game of the year! **and you people giving mixed and negative reviews. Go buy a friggin xbox if you don't like intellgent, complex, and difficult games, there's plenty of trash for you!

Company of Heroes 210
Nov 12, 2016
Ive played most of the big RTS games, and played them for 1000's of hours. Company of heroes 2 might be the best RTS game ever. I really don't understand the negative reviews, when the critics and users disagree so greatly just buy the game, test it for 1.5 hrs and refund if you don't like. Don't miss this game becoz of some peeved poor 15 year olds who can't afford DLC, or pirated the game and therefore miss out on it by default. I honestly think that's where alot of the gripe is, oh and not being able to learn tactical RTS without rage quit.

Being the sort of person who loves the great isometrics RPGS including (the fallouts, the baulders, divinity OS, etc, wasteland was ok too..) I should I have loved this game, but I got that grose feeling of 'there's no way I'm going to want to finish this. It's simply an issue of using a terrible old engine being used in 2016 to make a game, this feels like Baulder's Gate, in a bad way, in the dated way. It does not even look like the anti-aliasing works, and 1440p looks like 1080.. Obsidian should have bitten the bullet and upgraded to a new engine, IMO opinion this game is ruined by it's engine and I feel sorry for the developers who were stuck with it. Otherwise, if you can handle that, the RPG mechanics of it are as solid as any game. I'd also like to add the 'pause combat' is far less favoured overall by gamers than 'turn based combat' (if that's the choice of two), look at the success of the XCOMs or Divinity OS for example.
