Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut10
Jan 18, 2015
Writing this review with 120h playtime. The game is recommended for all turn-based RPG fans. Well-written story, interesting personas, deep character level-up system in a blade runner futuristic atmosphere. Replay value is high since you cannot explore everything in one run. It was supposed to be a minimalistic RPG, but it hooked me up for good. Graphics are serving the purpose, music shines and gameplay is on steroids. I finished the game as a melee monk-ninja troll specializing in katana-sword, who sold his soul for cyberware! Would like to try a second go with a silver-tongued elf-girl, who is a shaman with full-auto rifle specialization. I bought it for 5$ on sale, and frankly I got a lot more than what I did from 50$ products.

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth10
Oct 24, 2014
Having spent more than 20,000 hours in Civ1, Col. Civ2, AC, Civ: CTP, Civ3, Civ4, Civ4: Col, Civ5, I still find Civ: BE interesting and good fun to play. The game world feels fresh and the art beautiful. I very much liked the changes to the tech tree, the affinities and the interactive environment, which acts almost like a faction.. I am sure, there is a lot of room for improvements, which will come over time, as they did for Civ5. I have only 8h played, so what I write here is mostly my first impression. There are a couple of balance issues, and some minor bugs. Frankly, this game is in a much better state than Civ5 has been upon its release, which somehow got better reception from the fans. Therefore, I cannot understand, what is all this noise about. Saying this, yes, I have also tried Endless Legend, which I also liked very much. Overall I think CIV: BE is a superior product. I wholeheartedly recommend the game to all CIV and TBS fans. If I had to score I would have rated an 8.5/10. I give it a 10, as gesture of support to my all-time favourite game, because it's not rated fairly.

Best RPG since Baldur's gate. DOS takes you back to the root of RPG, pen-and-paper is back at its very best with turn based combat, rich character development that covers RPG elements, a rich world with flesh and colour, a screenplay written by novelists who enjoyed what they did, with the best music ever, with freedom to play the game with nearly infinite playstyles. And so many more, but alas I must go back and play now... It's time to dream again...

XCOM: Enemy Within Expansion10
May 29, 2014
It's an interesting expansion, I give it an 8 for mundane colors (some colors wouldn't hurt) and unbalanced difficulty (too hard in the beginning too easy in the end). I loved the mission at the fishing village by the way... ** EDIT ** Updated my score from 8 to 10. 430h on steam and still playing it, it has endless replayability. I only wish we had more content...

What a gem AoW3 is! How beautiful and enjoyable! Satisfying my inner turn based strategy addiction and going further beyond... Sid Meier is going to play AoW3 so hard, he will probably forget the release of Civ6 for 10 years! Alas another 10 years of wait till AoW4 and Civ6. What a terrible fate for all TBS lovers! Take my 10 and let me play!

EU4 is a hardcore strategy game. Immense, but also minimalistic. It has a high replayability, which is a guarantee to devour your free time. There are always new things to master, to explore and to do. Furthermore, the game is polished. Some bugs are there, but they are insignificant. However, the tiny fonts hurt my eyes. I hope they include a font size, which is scales to match screen size. Please fix this Paradox! EDIT: I have installed the font mod and gave it a 10. After all it deserves it!

If you liked the original panzer general, or in general turn based strategy games you will love this. Lots of hours of deep thinking. Highly recommended is the GC mega pack of campaigns, which brings the game to another level. My main point of criticism is the price of this game. I understand it is like a fine ivory set of chess, which you buy only if you can appreciate the genre, but still its price greatly exceeded my expectations. Another point of criticism, is the game is not really designed for high resolutions. Everything feels way too small at 1900x1080. Averaging metacritic user scores gives 9.14. How come metacritic arrived to 8.1 even with reworked formulas that's quite a gap.

Sid Meier's Civilization V: Brave New World9
Jul 11, 2013
No doubt BNW is very good and Firaxis successfully introduced several innovations. However, I would also mention that the initial Civ5 was severely dumbed down. G&Ks turned Civ5 into a strategy game adding several layers of polish. What BNW achieved is turning the series into a masterpiece, which surely deserves a 9. Strictly speaking BNW should have been the first expansion pack. Even if BNW is a good one, I cannot forget Firaxis milked us by releasing an incomplete game (vanilla Civ5) and asked us to pay up to fix what was initially broken.

Might & Magic: Heroes VI - Shades of Darkness0
May 14, 2013
With rating the product as 0, I am deliberately overrating the product. Strictly speaking it deserves 8.5 for the game development and concept and -12 for the U-play system implementation. I am located in Shanghai, China. The game needs at least 20-30min to synchronize with Ubisoft servers, and most often fails much earlier prompting a U-play error. This is utterly ridiculous and defies any description. So, let's sum up: -12+8.5=-3.5. Since, I am not allowed to score -3.5, it get's a 0. Fair and square.

The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom8
Mar 4, 2013
I have bought this game, because I read DRM is no more. I would like to confirm it. I disabled internet, started steam offline and then U-play popped up and asked me if I wish to start off-line. I did this and I was able to load my previous game in offline mode. The only difference, which I spotted is the ability to play multiplay -which kind of makes sense, if you don't have internet, why do you need multiplayer. Now to the core; Music is fantastic, and graphics are beautiful for a 3 year-old engine. I haven't encountered any game breaking issues or bugs yet. The environment is stunning and beautiful -wish Anno 2070 had this cheerful colors. Single player is easy at start, but then picks up. Game concept is involved and mechanics well thought. If you like builder kind of games, you will like it. Else, it's a pass. To conclude, I give -1, because it took Ubi 3 years to disable DRM and -1 because Ubisoft didn't listen to the Settlers community at start with DRM. Anyway, it's now official the game is playable and it's great fun too!

King's Bounty: Crossworlds9
Jan 6, 2013
Somehow I missed this one before, so my first go with King's Bounty series was the Crossworlds. The game offered me lots of hours of happiness and deep strategic challenges. The environment is colourful, joyful and often cartoonish. The design succesfully makes you to get into the game even more. Sure the graphics are outdated, and the game mechanics are simple; but who cares. Everything runs smoothly and well and that's enough for me. Accuse me of nostalgia, but I wish the game had similar game progression with Disciples 2. Overall, I would rate it a 9. It is strongly recommended to all strategy fans, who were dissapointed by Disciples 3 and HoMM; else it's a pass. I bought on a sale on steam; it's worth every penny for me.

Great Big War Game8

Hillarious and smart. Very interesting turn-based strategy game. Fans of the genre will love it. Have been up to mission two and have not experience any bugs yet (but may update my score, if I encounter any game breaking issue later on). Overall it's a good and solid little strategy game for less than 10 bucks. I would say give it a chance, makes good practice before x-com! UPDATE: It has a couple of bugs, 8 is more appropriate.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown10
Oct 13, 2012
Well done Firaxis! Amazing work. I would have rated with 95%, however rounding gives a 10. I have over 20hours of gameplay and haven't encountered a single bug. I don't know, since when I had to see something like this. 1990s or when? My only point of criticism or better nostalgia is the ability of the aliens to invade your base... Most of the concept has been reworked and overall improved e.g. no more insane macromanagement is needed. Micromanagement is a lot more tactical and action orientated and a lot less logistic. It is definitely the best turn based strategy of the decade. Keep up the good work Mr. Solomon! You managed to revive Microprose from its ashes. I gave you a 10, but now we are expecting to see XCOM: Terror from the Deep. ;-) Long live turn-based strategy games! Long live XCOM series!

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings10
Aug 25, 2012
Initially I turned The Witcher 2 down being biased against console style RPGs. Luckily, I accidentally tried it and I was immediately hooked in. The Witcher 2 (enhanced edition) is truly a gem. I had to enjoy so much an RPG, since Mass Effect 1. Behind the console style design, there is a deep, old school core waiting to absorb you. The graphics, the story, the non-linearities, its gameplay variety remind me of KoToR. Well done TW2 team. I give it a 10 wholeheartedly.

Unity of Command8
Apr 6, 2012
Pros: 1. Beautifully crafted flawless game engine 2. Game concepts are abstract, without being oversimplified 3. Easy to learn, but hard to master universe 4. The game provides a deep challenge in both logistics and tactics 5. Game art is minimalistic, but elegant 6. Very well balanced challenging scenarios 6. The multiplayer option provides challenges for hardcore users 7. The savegame dynamic mechanics add to the game complexity (such as limit save/load abuses) 8. Easy to mod a scenario 9. Plenty potential for further improvement and development Cons: 1. Game frustratingly asks for gamekey more than once 2. Game lacks depth in strategic level i.e. decisions that will affect the long term progress of the campaign. Currently, strategic decisions are limited to banking prestige and requesting elite units from Stavka or OKW reserve. 3. The game is very short you can finish the whole game in 10 hours. It really feels like an extended demo/ 4. Campaign feels more like patching together different scenarios without any real connection between them 5. The finale is disappointing. In fact, it is utterly absent. 6. Inflicting heavy losses on the enemy and minimize own casualties is irrelevant for gaining or losing prestige. There is a certain scenario, that the own way to achieve BV is by sacrificing your whole army... 7. Air combat is not existent. There is no concept as air superiority. The influence of air strikes is practically minimal. 8. Not possible to mod a campaign at the moment

King Arthur II: The Role-Playing Wargame10
Jan 27, 2012
Innovative and fun strategy game with an interesting mixture of role-playing elements. Adored the concept, and its implementation. On campaign map it reminds me Disciples 2, which was a true gem. Battles are very much Total War like. If you like epic style Lord of the Rings theme games, you will probably adore it. The graphics are stunning, both on campaign and battle level. The music is a pleasure for the ears. Nevertheless, performance issues have been reported for not high-end specs users. Overall the game is quite polished, but has some minor bugs. However, the designer team worked pretty hard so far on the feedback received from the community. I would also like to praise the AI of the battle engine of the game. The enemy cavalry beautifully performed flanking attacks chasing my archers away from behind of the bulk of my army. I have decided to give this a 10, predominantly for its innovative spirit, captivating environment and story-telling. Please note that this review is based on the dead legions version of the game.

Anno 207010
Dec 2, 2011
I've only made an account at metacritic to let you know Anno 2070 is a true gem. It is not only looking sexy, but it is also deep, involved and relaxing, at the same time. A perfect remedy to a busy working day. When I play this game, I feel happy, chill and just want to play more. Frankly that's more than enough for me! I give it a 10, because it worths it. Anno2070 is the underdog I was always looking for many years...
