The Bureau: XCOM Declassified8
Jul 24, 2014
An interesting hybrid that functions quite well, but will probably not meet the tastes of a broader audience. The tactical elements are fun, upgrading and equipping your squad adds a bit of an incentive and the enemies are challenging (if not terribly smart). Only occasionally does the dumb AI of your followers cause trouble (they are really meant to be ordered around as much as possible), and the graphics and level of polish are excellent. The 60s- atmosphere was also captured in such a way that you want to buy a suit and start smoking indoors again...

Very, very VERY standard shooter fare without any noticeable highlights. Ok as an in-between, but not quite an experience. Great for playing while watching TV in the background.

Space Run (2014)10

This deserves much more attention - a suprising new take on the whole tower defense idea, and very well executed. The encounters are fun and never too long, upgrading you ship is straightforward but provides quite the mental challenge further on, and in-between missions you can buy improvements for the various turrets, shield generators and engines you can put on your ship. Definitely worth a try, and a lot fo the annoying little things mentioned in other reviews have already been fixed.

Shadowrun Returns8

Combat is a bit simpler than I like it, but it's a good successor to the franchise. Very texty, it almost feels like an oldschool RPG experience with lots of text to click through. The story is good, the setting works well and the puzzles are a challenge. The fights can be a bit long though, and I wish there were more character customisation. Still, definitely worth a player for any RPG fan who likes slower-paced games.

Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown8

Still early access (so a lot of features are still missing, or not finished), but shows great promise. Combat is similar to Shadowrun Returns, but faster-paced and with more different skills. Can't wait to see proper character creation, and more guns - once they add co-op this will be great fun!

Ahhh finally a strategy game for mobile that's not dumbed down! BEST TURNBASED PVP I've seen so far, takes a bit of effort to get into but has ACTUAL STRATEGY. The game is pretty easy to get into, the tutorial is fine but once you start playing against other people you see that you need to THINK to win. Graphics are pretty nice too, and the units are very different but well-balanced. I can see myself playing this for a long time.

A good addition to the slim turn-based world - if you like it hardcore. Although matches are short and it's pretty easy to get into it's quite a challenge, especially once you hit the more seasoned PvP players. The community is very helpful though, and you find matches fast. Graphics and characters are nice as well, looks pretty and polished.

After two hours on the PC version I am sorely disappointed. Horrible performance, shoddy graphics, laughable station "instances" with characters that would seem modest by the standards of a 1998 game. While the space sim seems promising (hard to tell, every time I approach a station the framerate goes to hell), the rest of this alpha quality monstrosity is an insult poor voice acting, find-the-loot-box mini games and a female sidekick that's cringeworthy even for those who ride the campy retro wave. Six crashes later I'm calling it quits and consider the $50 a late taxation of the endless fun I had with the previous X games.

I waited for far too long to play this, and it turns out I´ve missed so much! The better GTA in every respect more sillyness, more driving around running things over, more settings things on fire and the missions (and story) are much more explicitly stupid. Came to be entertained for a bit, stayed through the entire campaign and all DLC.

If you can look past the slightly drab presentation this is a really well thought out indie game that combines exploration with team management with tactical combat. Unfortunately the hex battles feel a little shallow at first and are slow to pick up speed, but are enough to give fans of old-school tbs another fix. The team management and travel options are great if you liked the Dark Eye computer games, you'll love this.

As an avid JA2 fan I bought the Ivan package and I'm having good fun with it. Granted, it's not as deep as the old game, but the campaign is fun and there is a LOT (as in 30+ hours and counting) of content in the 25 bucks package, not to mention the insane number of guns you can collect. Why this is f2p I don't know seems more like a PvP demo (I don't really play PvP), but if you treat it as the packaged game it is it's actually decent value for money and you get more hours of game time than most AAA titles these days. So in total it's not quite JA2, but if you want a trip down memory lane that will last you a long time it's money well spent (and I'm enjoying it a lot more than that pseudo-RTS crap that was BIA).
