A fantastic game that deserves every one of its accolades! I do have a few gripes though. I can't understand why Nintendo still insists on making retro courses. There are only 32 courses in the game, and half of them are regurgitated from old games. Why not have 24 new courses and 8 retro courses? Yes, they've been updated and retrofitted with all the latest features, but there's still an inescapable sense of deja vu. I'm also baffled by all the "baby" characters, but I guess Mario Kart is the most logical series to feature them. Battle mode has been thoroughly re-worked, with disappointing results. Its more of an afterthought, really. I can't imagine you and your friends will spend too much time here. There are some nice balancing touches in MK8. You can now block the infamous blue shell with a new item. To balance this, Nintendo has taken away the ability to pick up a new item while holding one behind you (banana, shell, etc). You can also boost off of other players (or give them a boost) while using anti gravity. Its a neat little game mechanic that adds a risk / reward factor to the racing. Mario Kart 8 is an awesome game! However, as I've noted before, the Wii U library is still a barren wasteland when compared to PS4 and XB1. Don't rush out and buy a Wii U just for this game. You'll be sorely disappointed with your options once your through with Mario Kart 8.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

The New Donkey Kong Country is incredibly deep and requires patience. I learned this in DKC Returns after speeding forward to my death many times. Tropical Freeze brings the series to Wii U and does not disappoint. DKCTF is a finely crafted old school platforming game wrapped in gorgeous graphics. That being said, it's not a system-seller. If you aren't sold on the Wii U at this point, Tropical Freeze is not going to change that.

A very solid game! Unlike Sonic Generations on 3DS, Lost World is not a pared down version of its console counterpart. It is a full fledged iteration of the game with its own quirks and personality. Local multiplayer is a welcome addition. With his new moves you can hurl yourself along with a high degree of confidence knowing that Sonic will grab on to ledges or run up walls.

Operation Raccoon City is a game that should be great, but just isn't. Playing as Umbrella Operatives? Aw yeah! Zombie-infested multiplayer matches? Sign me up! These are awesome concepts that are poorly executed. What we have here is another run of the mill class-based third person shooter. Glitches and awkward deaths are plentiful.

Nintendo Land accomplishes all of its goals. It's a fun pack-in game that will introduce you to the Wii U system and the tablet controller. There's just not a whole lot of replay value once you've seen everything.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

All of the biggest flaws from the original game have been nicely ironed out. The best improvement in my opinion is the revamped aiming system. Now you can walk around in first person view while aiming and you can even use the gyroscope to fine-tune your shots; a welcome addition indeed! If you missed out on Wind Waker the first time around, now is your chance to experience a true masterpiece.

A fun little game that nicely expands on the original. I would happily pay more for the game if they included more levels. I'd also love to see them bring it to the Wii U as they did with the first game.

Lost World is exactly what the Sonic series needed! By slowing the pace down they've actually made Sonic more nimble and easy to control. It seems like the players like this game and the critics do not. I wanted to make sure I actually played a decent chunk of the game before commenting. Bottom line, if you're looking for a great Wii U game (and let's face it, there aren't many right now) or you're a long time Sonic fan, GET THIS GAME!!

What an amazing experience! Once you get used to the controls, you won't be able to put Ketzal's Corridors down. The flying-and-rotating game play is easy to learn and hard to master. The 3D is used very effectively and looks great as you swoop through the walls. I only wish it were longer! To the powers that be, bring us DLC!

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

While Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks certainly delivers the high-caliber dungeons and storyline that Zelda fans have come to expect, it falters in a big way. By adding the Train game-mechanic, Nintendo has essentially flushed out over world exploration, which is in my opinion one of the defining characteristics of the Zelda franchise. I refuse to believe that Nintendo couldn't find a way to keep exploration in the game and incorporate the Train at the same time. I also found that this game is noticeably easier than Phantom Hourglass. Hardcore Zelda fans will be pleased, but the rest of us on the fringe will find better gaming experiences elsewhere.

Demon's Souls (2009)

Demon's Souls delivers what many games nowadays simple cannot: bone-crushing, yet accessible levels of difficulty. Make no mistake: you will die a lot in this **** dungeon crawler. However, you'll find that Demon's Souls is a highly rewarding game once you make it over that first hump and get a decent character going. And, while you do so, you are given a great degree of freedom to craft a character that is truly and uniquely yours. Atlus has done a wonderful job of creating a dark, high-fantasy world that just begs to be explored. This game is a must-buy for any PS3 owner looking for a well-polished (and extremely difficult) action / RPG experience.

3D Dot Game Heroes

While 3D Dot Game Heroes is not particularly innovative, it certainly makes its intentions clear and delivers on what it promises. 3D DGTH is a full length retro action / adventure game built for your HD television. The game is jam packed with secrets, dungeons, bosses, NPC dialogue events, and areas that you can't reach without getting a certain item (just like everyone's favorite, Legend of Zelda). Probably the most interesting feature of this game is the ability to make your own characters, which is really easy to do and is quite entertaining. I think i may have spent an equal amount of time building characters as I did playing the actual game.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Forgotten Sands is an enjoyable game, but it really just feels like an HD remake of the Sands of Time games. I was annoyed by the lack of variation in enemies throughout the game and by the overly simplified combat. I give Prince of Persia 2008 more credit than this game simply because it tried to go in a different direction. If you're a PoP fan, by all means get this game. Otherwise, a rental will do. It's a very short game.
