Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
7
User ScoreKyle_Katarn92
Nov 30, 2020
Wolfenstein II's old school gameplay mechanics are a breath of fresh air in the age of regenerating health and linear level design. Scripted sequences, that seem to be a staple of FPS games these days are a few and far between in Wolf II. While the gunplay is solid, Wolfenstein II really drops the ball in the storytelling department. Bethesda game developers created an interesting world, reminiscent of the one in "The Man in the High Castle" but failed to use it to its full potential. Besides a few levels in rural Texas or the ruins of New York, most of the game takes place in underground military bases and factories. The writing is nowhere near as good as in "The New Order"

The game didn't change much compared to NHL 17, the stick handling feels a little stiff, the developers brought back some of the old stick moves featured in NHL 13. EA added new leagues this season, the Champions HL tournament is a nice feature too. My main grudge with the game is the Ai's inability to pick up the puck in some situations. The selected player will often have trouble scooping up a free puck, in some cases they will skate right past it.

The levels are very well designed, the atmosphere on all the maps is excellent. That helps the emersion, but all the focus went towards the multiplayer experience. The "instant action" mode, which was present in the previous instalments is gone. They have patched in "Walker assault" and "Fighter Squadron" as single-player battles, that will hold you over for a while, but it gets repetitive, given that there are so many other modes you could be playing. The controls are good and the multiplayer is well balanced, but the number of maps in the game is unsatisfactory. They keep making DLC add ons for the game, which you can access if you have a "season pass", that being said I'm not surprised, that a lot of players feel cheated right now, myself included. Despite this, the game is still a lot of fun.

The game is mostly fun. The uneven difficulty ruins the game from time to time. You can't save during game, so If John is killed, you go back to the beginning of the stage, or to a checkpoint. You should have no problem dispatching the enemies in the game, the auto-aim is probably the most lenient one out there. The shootouts are too easy with the auto-aim, and to hard with the manual-aim, as the crosshair automatically goes back to the centre of the screen.

The European version has some new mercs replacing a few old ones. However the voice acting for these new characters is horrible and their bios are written in broken english. Here are a few extracts: "Her arrangement against unjust dictators she has from her parents"."Fatherless childhood, many experiences." "Unhappy childhood in Siberia, but made him Harder". The US version keeps the old roster. I enjoyed this title for the most part. Hoverer numerous glitches keep this game from being a winner.
