Spermworld7

Disturbing. It shows a world I didn't know existed and kind of wish I still didn't. One recipient inseminated next to her child. Another with cystic fibrosis was unlikely to see her future child reach 18. Donors were as narcissistic as you would expect but acted as if they were humanitarians. There might be a reason people should go through sperm banks. Overall well made but yikes on the subject matter.

The Burial4

Another mediocre movie where storytelling takes a backseat to making a point. Underwhelming acting. Forgettable characters. Plays well for the social media crowd, but for everyone else it's not worth watching.

Practical Magic9

Great cast. Unique visuals and story. Amazing soundtrack. Not sure where the critics' criticism is coming from, because they're way off. One wanted a DieHard-like character to make an appearance. Talk about a bunch of hacks.

True Lies4

Fun when it was released, but definitely didn't age well. Tom Arnold was terrible and ruined most of the jokes. There was some heavy misogyny even judging by classic movie standards. I wouldn't recommend this as there are much better action movies from the decade worth watching.

Acting wasn't good. Lame villain. Decent soundtrack. Awful story. Needs at least 90 minutes edited out of it. Basically your typical DC Comic movie.

A Good Day to Die Hard0

Somehow worse than the previous Die Hard. Honestly don't know why this was made or how it wasn't direct to DVD. Everyone involved should feel bad.

Men in Black III9
Aug 19, 2023
Surprised by the criticism this movie is getting. It does everything a third movie should do in a trilogy and then some. Brolin was amazing. The CGI was fun and fit the MIB aesthetic. The story tied the whole trilogy together and added an emotional element that was missing from the previous two. Critics are getting lost with rose colored glasses when comparing it to the original. This is a good movie and deserves a better score.

Live Free or Die Hard2

Die Hard With a Vengeance is Speed. Live Free or Die Hard is Speed 2. This movie is awful. I felt dumber after watching it.

Riotsville, U.S.A.2

Boring, too long, and overall obnoxious in it's politics. Footage from the simulated cities was jarring at first, but became monotonous after 15 mins. Narrator was unneeded and consistently off-putting. The documentary applies today's toxic politics like ACAB to broadly paint all figures and events involved as good/evil. No nuance or differing viewpoints were presented. Throughout anarchy was put forward as a cure-all solution for racism and income inequality. At one point they even made a favorable comparison to terrorists in French Algeria, ignoring the chaos and violence that plagued the country post French rule. Unbelievably those who called for the violent overthrow of American democracy are the heroes here, while moderates and conservatives opposed are villains. It's a bizarre worldview from the filmmakers and an all too common theme for current documentaries covering 20th century events. Very disappointed with this one considering the rich subject material.

Dune: Part One8

Cut out all the cheesy Jason Momoa clips and you've got yourself a pretty solid movie. Disappointed where it ended, but I wouldn't change the pace of the movie. It was all really well made outside of the fight scenes which suffer from Hollywood's need to over choreograph combat.

Top Gun: Maverick1

Awful. Bland characters and nonsense script. The Rooster storyline was absurd. Call backs every scene. Tom Cruise was lame and awkward. I loved the original, but this movie is the worst I've seen in awhile.

Johnny Mnemonic4
May 30, 2023
Too campy to be taken seriously, but strangely also manages to be too serious to be a cult hit. Very interesting concepts plus a solid performance from Dolph, but the movie is a mess otherwise. Fun to think what could have been had Sony embraced the camp.

Money Shot: The Pornhub Story6
May 29, 2023
Lots of good information in the first half, but turns into a very bad opinion piece on free speech in the second. Putting ads on child abuse and nonconsensual videos is horrific, yet the featured performers defending "free speech" seemed confused why Visa/MasterCard would want nothing to do with it. The views expressed weren't even consistent throughout the film. Early on they explained why they wanted exclusively verified uploads to protect against these crimes, but then later criticized the move when talking about lost earnings with reduced web traffic. It was also very odd when the documentary shifted tone and attacked the site's critics calling them anti feminist, homophobic, etc as if we didn't just learn that the company was profiting from illegal images of children. Overall disappointing finish for a documentary that started strong.

All Quiet on the Western Front1

Gore porn geared for those who believe violence can take the place of good writing. There's some books that shouldn't be turned into a movie and this is one of them. Desensitizing movie watchers to this level of violence goes against what the novel was trying to accomplish. Awful that this is considered Oscar worthy. Talk about a statement on today's film industry.

The Way, Way Back9
Feb 14, 2023
Underrated movie. Steve Carell and the whole cast were great. Duncan's movements definitely captured the awkward teenager stage. The film was emotionally heavy, but still managed some great comedic moments. Relatable with plenty of depth. I can't see any reason to dislike this movie.

You People1

You would struggle finding another movie released in the past 100 years that took as harsh a stand against interracial relationships as this one. Unfortunately that's not even the worst part of it. The film spends much of its time blaming Jewish people for the struggles of black America. Their accomplishments are written off as products of nepotism and the Holocaust is ridiculed. The creators could make jokes about genocide, but luckily one item was off limits, hair. The whole thing was unfunny and difficult to watch. Honestly, I wouldn't want to meet the person who could like this movie.
