Played BOTW and now this for the first time ever after getting Switch 2, Loved BOTW and thought it was one of the best made games I had ever played, but TOTK just felt like a slog and had lost a lot of what I felt made BOTW special.

Most hyped game of the year but found it completely mid. Garbage combat, no tension/atmosphere due to the constant barrage of enemies the game throws at you. The story and themes were ok, but not all that interesting. Biggest let down in a while. OST was nice, though.

Best game I've played since Dark Souls 1. Improves in nearly every way over the original, albeit with a few balance issues.

Decent gameplay but terrible writing and really uninspired characters. Visuals outside of the character design can be excellent, though. EDIT. After putting another 10–15 hours into the game, my opinion of it has plummeted enough for me to dock another 2 points. I do enjoy the combat and visuals, but everything else is either laughably bad or just bland.

UE5 issues aside, this is an excellent remake of an excellent game. One of the best video game stories of all time, with an unmatched atmosphere and vibe. I feel the combat changes in the remake have made the game a slight too easy personally, but still had a blast playing.

Soul crushingly boring. Same pretentiousness you'd expect from an Atlus rpg with the most off-putting UI and visual effects I've ever seen after Cruelty Squad (at least that was on purpose). Plays and feels exactly like you'd expect from Atlus at this point, which a lot will like but I was hoping this game could be different. Terrible PC performance for how bang average the game looks. Borderline unplayable without mods. Eventually combat devolved into you either wiping the enemy in two turns or you being wiped by the enemy in two turns so just became a monotonous slog. Boss designs are cool and music is epic. IMO if this wasn't an Atlus game it wouldn't be getting anywhere near the same amount of love it's getting. Maybe the Metaphor:ReFantazio Kingly edition volume 4 will make it a fun experience.

Appreciate what it improved from FFI (a game that I love). Much better story, characters and ost. Everything else about the game is terrible though.

It took me back to my childhood and is the best-looking pixel art game I've ever played. Excellent OST and a decent combat system. I felt the story started with a lot of potential but kind of fizzled out towards the end of the game, but I did really like the setting/world. I felt the weakest aspect of the game was definitely the writing; while not as bad as Chained Echoes in this regard, it's still levels below what you'd expect. While definitely not perfect, it made me feel like a kid playing the JRPG classics for the first time again.

The best non From soulslike I've played, by far. Combat is best in class and only beaten by Sekiro imo. Great bosses overall and I enjoyed the setting and vibe. Didn't mind the linearity too much but do wish we had more side areas to explore.

Final Fantasy XVI

Went in with low expectations as I haven't enjoyed a lot of the modern FF entries but was blown away by XVI. Amongst the best games in the series for story/world building (second only to FFX for me) and the best implementation of action combat in any FF thus far. As much as I enjoyed the game I did have a few issues with it including really boring exploration/loot, very stripped back rpg elements and an almost non existent party system. Biggest issue with the game is the PC port. Some areas run as expected but others are completely unoptimized. I could get 130+ fps a majority of the time but would occasionally crash to sub 30 depending on the area. Overall this was a massive return to form for the series for me and my personal favorite entry since FFX.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

VII is one of my all time favorite games but I was so let down with FF7R to the point it has ruined any excitement for rebirth and part 3. One of, if not the most boring games I've ever played. I personally don't find the combat very engaging and find the filler utterly mind numbing. Only aspects I liked were the great ost and some of the fleshing out some of the side characters received. I just hope we get a proper remake at some point.

Not a bad game and a good first showing from the devs. I understand why some may be so in love with it if grew up knowing the novel. As someone who is unfamiliar with the mythology though, the game is lacking. Level design is terrible mostly throughout. Chapter 1 is as linear as they come and chapters 2 and 3 are large bland sandboxes with no charm to be seen. Chapter 4 was imo by far the most intricate in terms of design while chapter 6 was mostly just reskinned bosses or straight up copy pasted bosses for filler. The bosses, while visually impressive, lack depth and can all be tackled the exactly same way, in fact I can't remember having to do anything other than just spam lights and mix in the odd heavy for nearly every boss fight. The bosses are incredibly easy with 2 or 3 exceptions. I thought the combat had a lot of potential at the start of the game but it never evolves, once you're 5 hours in you've experienced all the depth the game has to offer. The best part of the game for me were the end of chapter cutscenes and the chapter 4 final boss.
