What can I say? A brilliant movie that predicted the then imminent arrival of garbage reality shows. The Truman Show is probably Peter Weir's best movie alongside Master & Commander. Jim Carrey and Laura Linney deliver exceptional perfomances and are accompanied by an equally formidable cast. The Truman Show is a true masterpiece, and one of the best movies of the 1990s.

Gravity is one of the best sci-fi movies of the 2000s. It follows a tremendous accident in low orbit caused by a debris field of destroyed satellites that endangers the crew of a Space Shuttle mission. The cast is really small but great: Sandra Bullock (one of her best performances) and George Clooney are the leads, while Ed Harris plays mission control (there are also minor actors). The film is very well paced, with truly terryfing moments, thanks to the beautiful cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki and excellent direction by Alfonso Cuaron. The sountrack, created by Stephen Price, is simply outstanding. It is a film you absolutley must see.

A tremendous movie with a perfect script and outstanding performances delivered by Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. Chinatown's atmosphere is mysterious and distrubing, shining a light on the dark side of the City of Angels. The protagonist, private investigator Jack Gittes (Jack Nichwolson), soon finds himself caught in a web of deceit and fraud. No one can be trusted and nothing is as it seems. Thanks to Roman Polanski's great directiong, 'Chinatown' is probably the best neo-noire movie and a great tribute to the original genre.

Oppenheimer is a fantastic movie and Nolan's most mature one. Great writing with a fast pacing that doesn't make you feel its 3 hours lenght. Extraordinary perfomances, especially by Cilian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt and Benny Safdie. The movie is scientifically and historically accurate (excluding a few fictional scenes). The movie is visually outstanding with a fantastic photography, and the sound design is incredible with Ludwig Goransson's incredible OST.

Ad Astra is a fairly mediocre science fiction film. Although the premise is interesting, the film lacks substance and ultimately proves, without making spoilers, disappointing. The technical aspects of the film are impeccable, the cinematography is excellent, and there are some great shots and sequences. However, as I have already said, the plot is just so disappointing that in the end I felt really unsatisfied.

The Martian is a solid sci-fi movie, brilliantly directed by the great Ridley Scott, who once again returns to science fiction. The Martian is not about far future and distant planets, it describes a fairly realistic situation in the near future, after mankind finally landed on Mars. This is probably the most realistic sci-fi film I've ever watched, since is based on a book by the same name, written by Andy Weir, who studied for a long time to make it as realistic as possibile. It has an outstanding cast and Matt Damon performance as astronaut Mark Watney is truly terrific. If you're looking for a more realistic and down-to-earth sci-fi movie, definitely watch The Martian.

2001: A Space Odyssey is not just a science-fiction film, it is THE science-fiction film par excellance. All sci-fi films released after 1968 owe something to it. This film is mesmerizing and it glues you to the screen with extraordinary shots that show just how visionary Kubrick was. Its slow pace can be tedious for some people, but I really don't consider it a flaw. If I really have to find a downside, it is that over the course of the film it's impossibile to become emotionally attached to the characters, because they are not so developed. 2001: A Space Odyssey is the film that showed how science-fiction cinema can be great cinema.

Tim Burton's film are always very odd, with strange characters and elements, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is a good film, filled with all these Tim Burton's absurd elements. Johnny Depp is very good in portraying Willy Wonka and it's well characterized. The locations are fantastic and the factory is awesome. Tim Burton remaked the 1971 film with Gene Wilder with very good results.

The film is very funny, good protagonist, good actors, Kurt Russel fit perfectly the role of Jack Burton, the story is great and filled with fantasy and also religious elements of the Chinese culture. The FX for the year 1986 are great. One of those film that can easily be watched with some popcorn, not excluding the story and the characters and enjoying the adventures of the Ol'Jack Burton.
