The magic of Pegg and Frost is alive and well, and Truth Seekers strikes the perfect balance of heart, horror, and humanity. This one is more than worth your time.

The first few episodes of "Truth Seekers" are somewhat disappointing, but the acting is strong and there's potential for improvement.

Comedy horror at its best considering the budget allocation was minimal. Imagine if you will, a cross between Doctor Who, the X-Files and “Shaun of the Dead’ style comedy. Seriously, this show is wonderful; sci-fi/horror comedy with a real attention to detail. What do I mean? Well, Truth-Seekers is a highly-intelligent show aimed specifically at sci-fi horror - comedy genre fans. In closing, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t appeal immediately to a few people, this is because you actually have to sit and think about what you’re watching and for those demanding instant gratification I recommend you replay each episode and then you’ll get it; boy, will you get it!

If you like Simon Pegg / Nick Frost or their style / British humor, then you'll like this series; also, genuinely a bit spooky at times, and very creative. Don't trust what some generic literary critic(s) might say about it. Truth Seekers is delicious just like Prawn Cocktail Crisps.

The problem with Truth Seekers is that it’s a 21st century Amazon Prime comedy-horror that not so secretly wants to be an unnerving BBC kids caper circa 1978 and generally lacks any deeper ambitions. Frost and Pegg will never not be likeable together. It’s just a pity Truth Seekers isn’t that bit funnier and scarier.

Gus is motivated by grief, and Frost can do sensitive, too, but Truth Seekers sometimes struggles to achieve the right balance between its different elements. You can understand why they wanted to try something new, rather than play it safe, but director Edgar Wright’s absence looms large.

The Hollywood Reporter
Truth Seekers isn't anywhere near as funny or scary as HBO's Los Espookys, but as single-agenda shows go it's still funnier than Fox's short-lived Ghosted and scarier than Hulu's likely-to-be-short-lived Helstrom.

It’s a show that seems content in the tonal middle—not funny but not scary or thrilling either. It just kind of sits there, almost refusing to go too broad into either of its genres.

This horror-comedy series just wants to make you chuckle, and with regards to its potential scares, only a little anxious. But it's so resoundingly slack and lazily written that neither its horror or comedy have that vital sense of timing, or danger.

If you're a Nick Frost and/or Simon Pegg fan, you should really check this show out. Not sure why the professional gave it such a low rating. The story is not as fluid but it's still decent enough to follow. Its funny in parts and it keeps you interested. The actors play their parts well but may come off a little hammy. If they gave the show an hour run time instead of near thirty, I'm sure it would be an instant classic. I hope Truth Seekers get a second season. Please watch if you haven't. It'll be a little bright spot in your weekend.

Kind of slow, but charming. Hopefully Amazon picks it up for a second season as there are a LOT of teases and loose ends. Pegg isn’t in it that much so there’s little chance for that Frost-Pegg chemistry to shine, but Frost carries the series quite well, and Pegg carries his scenes well. Be advised though, it isn’t action packed or endless laughs. I did not realize until after we finished that they were attempting to take seriously the horror, but then I’m no fan of horror. Overall the best description is quirky and charming and light. The closest analogy I can make is “People of Earth”. Try it for at least the first three episodes, and pay attention as it’s not an instant grab but there’s always multiple plot lines running.

Truth Seekers is that nice middle-ground between comedy and fear. The story was really interesting and kept me hooked throughout, and it definitely took some inspiration from They Live and Doctor Who, very cool. There are a lot of secrets that are revealed later, but if you watch carefully you can use the visual hints to put it all together. There is a really interesting lens choice which actually adds to the effect of the show. I believe it's the use of a wide angle lens (not sure what focal length), where the sides of the screen are slightly distorted. It really adds to the theme of the show. It's new but feels old and it's great. Cinematography was excellent. The one performance that annoyed me was by Julian Barratt the main villain, I couldn't help but cringe when he was doing his speeches, not sure if that was his fault or the script but I couldn't take it seriously. The special effect didn't seem the best at first but over time I went along with it. I think with a bigger budget we'll see much better special effects for the ghosties. It's great to see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in something together again.
