Under the guise of a conventional bio-pic, with all of the dilution and sweetening that the commercial format entails, Fogel offers a wide-ranging and deep-rooted critique of American officialdom, of the political underpinnings of American society.

It’s not a typical whistleblower movie, like “The Insider” or “Official Secrets” (both excellent), but more of a prickly character portrait, imbued with humor and a headstrong sense of defiance (courtesy of co-writer Kerry Howley, channeling Winner’s voice).

Os EUA, nação que se diz símbolo da liberdade e da democracia, precisa muito de filmes como esse. Embora ainda ache Reality" mais visceral, filmo no qual o recorte é mais específico, concentrando-se na visita da polícia à casa da Reality Winner logo após ela ter vazado as informações confidenciais da interferência russa nas eleições americanas, aqui neste filme há uma preocupação maior com a construção da personagem, cobrindo diferentes fases de vida, o que pode até diminuir o potencial da narrativa pela dispersão, mas não deixa de ser interessante.
