Super Nature

Instead of pursuing the immaculate, high-definition imagery familiar from National Geographic, Sayers curates his film entirely from vintage Super 8 footage, creating an episodic, arresting portrait of the natural world.

Altogether, this forms the best kind of crowd-sourced art: a work that is intimate, quirky and intensely accessible.

The result is surprisingly immersive, the format and subject working in harmony to create a global overview of the natural world, and our place within it.

It’s a cohesive and moving portrait of a planet we share with living things that we have forgotten how to preserve, let alone observe properly, and the limitations of the format are a surprising boon to a film intent on hammering home this simple but central connection.
