Condemned in Australia by two of the victim’s families, there’s an argument to be made for Nitram not being watched at all. But by refusing to paint Nitram as an out-and-out monster, the film’s masterstroke is its compassion. It exposes politicians as the real criminals in an unspeakable tragedy that we still haven’t learned from today.

The Telegraph
The acting quartet of Jones, LaPaglia and double Davis is just immense.

More than an explainer of motives behind a single person mass shooting, Nitram is a character study wrapped in a tone poem, an unpacking of a man who feels like he has run out of all potential paths to happiness and believes that acts of violence spark action.

The killings themselves may remain off-camera, but the movie is still an uncomfortable watch. In Jones’s smoldering performance, we see a man stretched beyond his limits, a rubber band just waiting to snap back.

The Hollywood Reporter
Nitram is an uncommonly tough, taxing film with an aftershock that’s hard to shake.

The Film Stage
Nitram here pulls off the delicate eye of the needle: it has compassion for Nitram’s circumstances without providing an alibi for his actions.

Little White Lies
Although the film avoids depicting any act of violence (aside from that which Nitram inflicts on his father and a shooting we hear but don’t see) its sympathies seem strangely weighted in favour of a man who showed none to the people he murdered.

Justin Kurzel made this movie a mission It was not a school project. It hooked the audience quick. About 4 really disturbing scenes in the movie total and your sitting there awaiting the next mind breaker. I would highly recommend this movie to High Schools movie classes across America This would help anyone out there that suffers from toxic environments at home. The audience felt the ugliness and cruelty Powerful stuff
