Ne Zha II surprisingly contains a sincere-feeling theme of individuality, of resisting what society commands a person to be rather than embracing their nature.
What’s remarkable is that even if one fails at grasping in full the plot and its many conflicts, Ne Zha 2 has the power to flood the senses and convince anyone who watches it that they have just witnessed an animated production that holds absolutely nothing back.
Amazing, its all ive ever wanted in life My eyes teared up a bit at times
I laughed
and the fight scenes had me on edge
Id happily decimate a country to an atomic level just to rewatfh this movie again for the first time
Ne Zha 2 starts out tedious and juvenile, but after its first hour it pivots to enormous and spectacular fist-pumping action and tear-jerking intimacy.
It’s not hard to understand why global audiences turned out in droves to see Ne Zha 2. Its boundlessly creative visuals, rich character design, all-enveloping sound, and imaginative scenarios are truly original. But that sensory onslaught—those endless fights with their own progressive stakes—comes at the expense of focus, character, and story.
The sequel is certainly a stupendous achievement in terms of its animation, and clearly has great cultural resonance in its native country. But those looking for coherent storytelling or emotional depth will have to wait for the next Pixar offering (not that the company has been distinguishing itself lately).
Ne Zha 2 is a distinct fantasy epic and a technical achievement that stands up to the best that Disney, DreamWorks, Aardman or Studio Ghibli can offer, even if it frequently gives in to the same proclivities for excess as its peers.
I had the luck to watch Ne Zha 2 in France despite very few sessions available. This might be the greatest animated film I've ever seen. It was truly amazing ! And what amazes me is that no one's talking about it. I discovered the first film completely by chance because I've been interested in Chinese mythology ever since I played Black Myth Wukong.
For now, it hasn't been released in many theaters, not for very long, and only in French with subtitles (VOSTFR) with very discreet advertising, but it so deserves to be a hit. It blows Disney Pixar's minds away, whether in terms of animation, universe (based on Chinese mythology), action, emotion, or message, and it's incredibly generous. It raises the bar several notches. For me, it's a classic ! Remember, "NeZha"!
Don’t rely solely on the visual aspect, because the narrative matters too. The sequel to 'Ne Zha' presents itself as a visual spectacle of a magnitude rarely seen in Chinese animation. If the first installment already stood out for its energy, color, and composition, this second part pushes all of that to the limit: every sequence is crafted with admirable technical precision, the contrasts of light and chromatic intensity feel more refined, and the visual design reaches an almost overwhelming level of detail. Aesthetically, 'Ne Zha 2' is a true feat. However, this visual grandeur does not translate into an equally strong emotional connection. Out of the two and a half hours of runtime, I only felt a genuine emotional bond with the story at one specific moment. The rest of the time, despite its fast pace and narrative density, the plot felt distant, even boring at times. Not because it lacks action or ambition—quite the opposite—but because the story spreads itself too thin among new characters and subplots, leaving Ne Zha himself, the undisputed protagonist of the first film, relegated to a secondary role. The script is more elaborate, denser, and more serious than its predecessor. A clear sense of maturity can be felt: less humor aimed at children and a more grounded approach to themes such as identity, destiny, and maternal love. That central message remains strong and, when the film manages to focus, it truly moves. But those are isolated moments within a whole that, emotionally, is difficult to traverse. Visually, there are moments reminiscent of souls-like video games, with intense battles, impressively designed creatures, and a dark fantasy atmosphere that gives the film a distinct identity. However, that approach ultimately reinforces the feeling of watching a spectacle rather than a story. 'Ne Zha 2' is undoubtedly a technically admirable achievement, a film that pushes the boundaries of Chinese animation with overwhelming ambition. Yet, in its eagerness to astonish, it sacrifices part of the soul that made the original so special. The result is a film to be respected and appreciated for its boldness, though it leaves behind an emotional residue too faint for its length and promise.
It was advertised as surpassing Disney and Pixar, so I watched it to verify the truth. However, it was such a cliché story that I felt like I was going to doze off halfway through.I heard the animation is amazing, but to be honest, it feels like it's just at a passing level.
To be honest, I felt that it was an extremely boring story. It might be because I don't know much about Chinese culture and history. With its astonishing box office revenue, it might have raised expectations too high as this year's number one animation.
