Master

While the movie does offer some interesting ideas and there were some decent action sequences towards the end, it never gets out of it's comfort zone and as a result, it becomes quite predictable. While it's not terrible, it's still a disappointingly average film.

A Delicious Instant Fantasy Elevated by Unquestionable Star Power and Charisma. 170109 in theaters (2.0)Perhaps it is because I went in without high expectations, but I thoroughly enjoyed this delicious instant fantasy. Gang Dong-won remains handsome even with a bit of weight on, and Kim Woo-bin is unexpectedly charming. Gang Dong-won is so seriously handsome that whatever he says, you end up believing it entirely. That truly is the real problem here. Directed by Cho Ui-seok, the 2016 South Korean crime action thriller "Master" revolves around a high-stakes intellectual battle surrounding One Network, a massive fraudulent corporation orchestrating a nationwide pyramid scheme. The plot follows Kim Jae-myeong (Gang Dong-won), a sharp and relentless police captain of the intellectual crime investigation squad who leads an operation to bring down the charismatic yet ruthless con artist Chairman Jin (Lee Byung-hun). To corner Jin, Jae-myeong targets Park Jang-goon (Kim Woo-bin), the brilliant head of One Network's IT system and Jin's right-hand architect, pressuring him into acting as an informant while Jang-goon constantly weighs his own survival and loyalties between the two men. Featuring lavish production values, glossy pacing, and dynamic action set pieces filmed across Seoul and Manila, the film delivers a slick commercial spectacle powered by the irresistible presence and star chemistry of its leading cast.
