A home invasion story that is as artfully terrifying as "Home Alone" was entertainingly hilarious.

Like a lot of films of this breed, Don’t Breathe gets a little less interesting as it proceeds to its inevitable conclusion, replacing tension with shock value, but it works so well up to that point that your heart will likely be beating too fast to care.

Alvarez proves adept at springing surprises in these moments, a skill that combines all the art and technique of moviemaking with the architecture of 3D level-planning and the carny showmanship of building a professional haunted house.

For the most part, you’re in the hands of a capable lunatic who has a tale to tell.

There is an unpredictability to the film that is, at times, refreshing. This unpredictability turns into meandering, however, leading to narrative incoherence at many points.

Came here to see who the new Alien film is being entrusted with; and some things are clear: Fede Alvarez makes a solid Hitchockian chiller and manages to do a lot with little and flirts well within the tropes of the home invasion/slasher horror, his camera roaming around in search of what may or may not lurk in the dark; the audio doing some serious heavy lifting and Stephen Lang as a tremendous disgusting, brilliant monster of a **** film is tight, and surprising and the beats and gags of the genre are well-conceived, well-shot and are effective.

La premisa es interesante, pero no acaba siendo lo que parece, no es malo, simplemente es diferente y no es lo que te esperas. En general está guay, tiene plots interesantes, pero no deja de ser una peli slasher "sencillita" que transcurre en una casa (la novedad), está guay, pero ya. · Cosas buenas: El montaje es lo que más sorprende, además el cómo han aprovechado el espacio, el escenario, porque recordemos que poco más hay que una casa, tanto en cuanto a cámara, en los movimientos que hace (se sacan algunos planos secuencia chulísimos) como en cuanto a narración, yo como espectador vi difícil desarrollar algo tanto tiempo en tan poco espacio, pero vaya que sí da. Además, me gustan las sorpresas en cuanto a la premisa, la atmósfera que crea en la mayoría de la cinta, sumadas a la dirección artística y fotográfica. · Cosas malas: En ciertos momentos es algo predecible, y luego, dentro de lo que cabe, es una película bastante sencilla, no es demasiado original vaya. · Conclusión: Es una película competente y efectiva, funciona, sobre todo por la gran atmósfera que crea, y te lo pasas bien, no llega a ser terror terror, pero podría encajar en el género, una buena opción.

It was an OK movie, but me and the wife were screaming at the TV most of the time because the protagonists always did unbelievably stupid or illogical things. If you like the actors doing what makes sense for normal human beings, you won't like this movie.
