As Hallmark-esque as this Netflix rom-com might be, it offers the perfect combo for what you anticipate from a seasonal title. It delivers on a low-stakes love story between two people from different cultural backgrounds, allows for its main character to grow into her own and understand her worth, and gives viewers the opportunity to escape to Paris without leaving their couch.

Minka Kelly has a face that could launch a thousand cable movies and is the freshest thing about “Champagne Problems,” a holiday-season romance that takes the welcome tack of embracing its own clichés.

The romantic part of Johnson’s rom-com barely reaches a low simmer, but the comedy part burns a little brighter.

The gimmicks are unfunny, the romance inoffensive, the happy-ever-after straightforward. For all its waxing poetic on the specific luxury of champagne, no one is pretending this is anything other than a mass market item; the things to hate are also the things to like. One might call a critic’s feelings about it a champagne problem.

Actually, this was a successful movie using the standard theme of all romance movies. The leads got along, the girl was very cute. The characters were fine. The setting was good. The pace was good. It was one of the better Christmas romance TV movies of the season. It deserved a 7 to separate it from the multitude of 6.0-6.4 movies. Our view is: "watch it for some fun and relaxation, especially in front of a fire."
