Thumper is a fun and visually aggressive, face paced rhythm survival game. As a space scarab you’ll enjoy banking and weaving your way through hours of increasingly intense levels. It doesn't make use of any mechanics that are unique to VR and plays identically on the screen as it does on the headset, however the novelty of being in VR enables a more focused experience and heightens the game's purposeful intensity. [Tested with PlayStation VR]

Thumper’s oppressive atmosphere is amazing. Soundtrack, abstract visuals, breathtaking speed and palpable collisions build tension you would never expect from a runner/rhythm game. It’s a very interesting experience, but every time I removed PS VR after playing Thumper, I was completely worn-out by this intense, perpetual assault on my senses. [13/2016, p.77]

Fraught, oppressive and tense, Thumper has been built to a singular vision - and one we can certainly respect, if not always enjoy. [Christmas 2016, p.117]

This ones cool! I don't love a ton of rhythm games (Mainly because I'm not super good at them)- But this one is by far my favorite rhythm only ****'s a rhythm game entirely revolving around the psychedelic visuals and amazing soundtrack. It truly is always keeping you engaged. It also does the good thing where you don't have to get S rank on every level to enjoy it, but rather just encourages you to do **** mechanics are always introduced and then built upon, it never feels like the developers shoe horned something inn, but rather just kept making the initial draft that much **** play as a weird looking spaceship/bug/whatever it is, and learn how to turn, break, rush through, etc. all of the obstacles that are in line with the music.I don't fully know how to review this one, but if you like rhythm games and have essentially $5-10 to spare, this game is definitely worth picking up.

A masterpiece. The mechanics are easy to perform the hard part is to actually keep the rhythm (if you dont follow the song)

Discovered this game as a random suggestion looking around for PSVR2 games. Never heard of the game prior to that.
This is instantly one of my favorite VR games, the pacing, style and gameplay loop is fantastic. I strongly recommend this to anyone that enjoys Res.
This game makes me wish for a VR version of AudioSurf as the visuals are so similar.

Thumper really isn’t like anything else I’ve played and I don’t say that lightly. Yes, there are similarities to other games in the genre, but the rush of adrenaline and existential dread felt throughout the game are just small factors in what ultimately sets it apart. Thumper is a brutal deep dive into the abyss, one that will relentlessly push you to your limits again and again.

Thumper is easily the best game I have played on Playstation VR. It’s fresh, exciting and leaves you wanting more. It’s amazing to think that this title was created by a two-man development team of ex-Harmonix employees. If there’s one game you should show off you to your friends when they come over, it’s definitely Thumper.

I never, ever liked any rhythm games. Not a single one. But I fell in love with this one. There is nothing quite like it, gameplay, graphics and music all 10/10!

Thumper makes an incredible case for the future of virtual reality. With an incredible level of quality paired with a reasonable price of admission, this should absolutely be one of the first titles that anyone interested in making the most out of their new PlayStation VR headset buys. With blistering speed and intensity to go along some easy to learn, difficult to master gameplay mechanics, the future of rhythm games – and, by extension, virtual reality – is bright.

There’s something to be said for the sensation of Thumper’s mid-game, where survival is the goal, ignorant of whatever score comes along with it.

If you’re able to omit some problems with its dark, aggressive rhythms and with some curves impossible to see, you have one of the best games of the genre from the last few years.

I enjoy challenging games when there’s a rewarding payoff. With Thumper, the reward of doing well is just more Thumper. If you’re really into the game’s bleak conceit, you may have the patience to hang with it for the duration. Personally, I was ready to leap out of the trough and never look back.

Real sleeper hit this one. Fun to play & the rhythm side of things makes it even better. Worth noting I played in VR. Managed to **** into my top 50 games of all time as well.

Fun game with good music and spectacular and unique visuals (sometimes even a little TOO spectacular, making it hard to see what's going on), but BOY OH BOY, is it hard!! I'm on Level 5 of what looks to be 9 Levels and the game is already suuuuuuuper punishing (keep in mind that I'm a drummer and have a really good sense of rhythm). It's become a super-cliched thing to say, but I think I would not be wrong if I were to call this the Dark Souls of rhythm games. Unless you have the reflexes of an 18-year-old, you're going to have to do A LOT of trial and error and die hundreds of deaths. I think Thumper could have really benefited from an Assist/Practice-Mode where you're able to slow things down. After all, that's what you do with an actual piece of music if you cannot play it: You break it down into little pieces and slow it down to a pace where your brain can process it. Unfortunately, this is not an option here, so your only option is to fling yourself at the brick wall again and again and again and again...

+ The visuls are the only good thing about this game. +- The game is very difficult. - This is suposed to be an music rhyeme game but the audio is rubbish. - A music rhyeme game with rubbish audio is just a bore to play. = The game is hard so you need to keep at it to progress but the game is too boring to make me want to. I'd rather play the Britney Spears rhyeme game on PS2 and what's sad is, I am not joking.
SummaryThumper is a rhythm violence game. It combines classic rhythm-action with breakneck speed and brutal physicality.
