We do not know a lot of fighting games that are so heavy on exciting sword battles like Nidhogg. The mechanics are very easy to learn, but yet hard to master and the colorful simplistic style fits the game perfectly.

The art of swordplay meets the art of dynamic gameplay. An offer for two that shines mostly through local multiplayer. [Issue #239]

A peculiar, thrilling and essential addition to your PC games collection. Best played with friends/enemies. [Apr 2014, p.76]

This game is very exciting to play with friends who know each other well. There are some tactics, but once both sides run out of weapons, the game instantly becomes a chase, and the game is not as subtle as it could be. One side can just drop their swords and run, and once they take that approach, it will be difficult to finish them off even if the area changes. So there are not many good games, and many games where one side is stronger than the other, so I would have to say that the game is subtle in that respect.

un juego de 1vs1 con los controles más simples y difíciles de dominar que vi en años, le pondría un 10 si el online no fuera tan malo

Most fun moments I had playing video games. When my friends come over to play games, we always come back to this one.

A brilliant marriage of mechanics, level design and music that will be played and talked about for years to come.

To put it plainly, Nidhogg is incredibly fun. If you can appreciate the game’s style for what it is and you don’t have an ego as fragile as glass, you’ll delight in testing your mettle against another’s.

Very competitive and rewarding experience, for gamers who ask an awesome mixture of tactics and action. Unfortunately the online multiplayer is suffering from what seems to be an rushed launch, but the value of the package is still great. Definitely a must buy if you still enjoy multiplayer gaming with friends in the same room.

The most frantic party game since Mashed, the most elegant Budokan since Budokan. A surreal elaboration delivers more juice to its engaging swordplay, the engaging swordplay delivers more juice to any of its random jousts.

In blending standard kill-or-be-killed fighting game mechanics with a totally unique offense vs. defense structure — married to its distinctive, fantastic presentation — Nidhogg still exists as something totally original in a genre that often feels dangerously tired.

A beautifully presented retro game that proves less really can be more, but lacks any lasting appeal beyond the immense joys of local multiplayer. [Apr 2014, p.70]

Just like a skilled swordsman, the developer of Nidhogg disarmed me and lured into a trap – you either miss one of the best fighting experiences ever made, or pay $15 for what is basically an incomplete game.

One of the most fun and original fighting games I've ever played. It's simple, and I believe thats where some of the negative reviews come from. If you have a competitive buddy who wants to play a fighting game, this is the game for you.

Nidhogg is excellent for anybody who wants a cool, innovative, and challenging side-scrolling strategy game. There is a solid single-player campaign that is relatively challenging, and the multi-player is fun as well. As you progress, your character doesn't get more skilled, you as the player does, which is really what sparked me to play this game. For the people out there that do not like this game because it only really has a multi-player- This game is really inexpensive. You can't expect too much from it. I bought it from the steam sale this summer, and it turned out to be worth the $1.49 that it was. I obviously wouldn't have bought it if it was above $5. If you can snag it for less than $2, it is totally worth it.

Pretty fun, very derpy, and just all round nonsensical. Very short I must admit, but multiplayer offers a great deal of fun from time to time, a fun game to play with mates if you have nothing else to do. 7/10 - Ben Hazelden

Overpriced, Crap, Useless, Pointless, 2 minutes of gameplay, Nidhogg might be the most over-priced crap ive ever thrown money at. Its a waste of space on the steam store, and any other site, Atleast its fun. I will admit i enjoyed this. But for such little content, and for such a high cost, this game just doesnt hold up.

When i first saw Nidhogg, my expectations were pretty high and I was pretty damn hyped. I was looking forward to a game with deep and extremely satisfying combat. Unfortunately the reality was a lot less. The game has a relatively high price tag for an indie game overall, and there is nothing to get your money's worth in it. The combat is disappointingly simple and somewhat stiff, the graphics are run-of-the-mill pixel art, there are only four levels, the single player consists of playing each of them four times and takes about 30-40 minutes. The game in general has very little to offer for such a high price tag. Give it a pass until it's in a bundle and then find a friend to play this with.
SummaryNidhogg is the epic award-winning fencing tug-of-war, full of graceful acrobatics and clumsy stabs. IRL yelling and excitement may occur, in this ultimate two-player showdown of fast-paced fencing and melee attacks. Beware, advantages in Nidhogg are often fleeting, as new opponents continually spawn in your way.
