In terms of the story, the first 70% of the story is just not very informative; it's just walking, facing mysterious events, and ash bodies giving unclear talks. As for the rest of 30% , it is also not fruitful--even the most important event that cause all the problems, the fire, is only told in the dialogs. After finishing the game, I am not very impressed. In terms of gameplay, the numerical planning is a disaster. I don't understand why this is getting such a high score.
Truly a masterpeace. As a gamer since 80's, I'm happy to feel this way again. What a story! What a OST! The gameplay is fun to, and the worldmap is so cute. This is the best FINAL FANTASY that never existed!
It's a masterpiece. I almost never give a game a true 10/10 but this game deserves it. An absolutely beautiful story, and a work of art. Everything about the game is so well done. You can see the passion put into this game, I cannot believe this is not a AAA game, as its better than most AAA games. I wasn't sure at first. Act 1 was a bit slow after the initial excitement of the first 2 hours, I started thinking it was a bit formulaic like most RPGs, and was getting worried that maybe it was a bit overhyped. From the end of Act 1 to the end of game, it exceeded my expectations in every way possible.
Best game ever created (for me) turnbased combat is a 10/10 on this game, the story is on another whole universe, character and world design is absolute perfection, late game contentis amazing and let’s not forget the fun minigames!
At a time in gaming where AAA slop is overrunning the industry, E33 was a huge breath of fresh air. Amazing story full of twists, likable characters, phenomenal score, and great gameplay. Even people who I've talked to that don't like turn based said that they didn't mind the combat. All of this and the game at MSRP is $50. Incredible.
Amazing game, the turn based is so fun, the skill combinations have endless possibilities. Game graphics are also top notch. For the story, well its a French game, so it has that European touch to it, for those that is used to play Japanese game, this one is a different genre than your usual **** RPG, worth every penny!
Ngl, this might be one of my fav games of all **** actually so good on so many levels. I didn't except to like it so much. The music is unreal, the story is so intricate and dramatic, the characters are so loveable, the gameplay and visuals were phenomenal. Amazing work by a smaller company. I find 2025 was dominated by smaller companies so far, well done.Youmake gaming fun again
They've lied to everyone about it. They've pretended to be an indie or AA studio when they're not, since the game was financed by a major, multi-million dollar private company in France, owned by Guillaume Broche's family. His family owns several private companies that earn millions, so it probably cost over 50 million. They also used AI in the game's development, and the much-praised combat system, which is actually awful, is a blatant rip-off of several JRPGs and RPGs that came out much earlier. Furthermore, the entire story is a blatant rip-off of other video game series that came out much earlier, and in general, the whole world is a complete and shameless copy of Final Fantasy. This video makes everything perfectly clear. Besides discussing the story and plagiarism, which covers many topics, it also addresses financial issues and AI, as well as the first demo that leaked years ago—things this studio has hidden from the public to maintain the lie that they are an indie studio.I can't post links, but the video is titled:EVERYONE has LIED to you about CLAIR OBSCUR EXPEDITION 33 (The WHOLE TRUTH)
Chorei, chorei pra caralho.
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has a lot to say, and it knows exactly how to say it. It's a modern masterpiece that depicts it's subjects honestly, and manages to spark interesting debate. By it's end, Clair Obscur finishes stronger than most games (and even some films) can hope to, and the package as a whole feels too good to be real. This is a project that defied the odds from it's very inception, yet Sandfall Interactive have not only risen to the occasion, but effectively redefined what is possible with the classic, role playing genre. This is the result of a talented team bound by their love of the art form, given the permission to show us their hearts, and create something from love.
Just finished Expedition 33. I really only played the Main story. Finished at lvl 38. Kind of a **** story but i really dig it. Amazing writing, and performances. I have never been able to get into turn based games but thus game has some of the best gameplay/combat ive ever played. Makes me wanna try more turned based games now. Graphically one of the best artstyles ever, it looks fantastic without being “Photorealistic slop”, i guess my one big complaint I have with the game is the traversal but thats more of a Me problem than a a problem with the game itself. Overall 9/10 Definitely will play again, with more of a focus on the side content next time.
One of the best turn based JRPG ever, or should I say FRRPG. The history, the graphics, the combat, the exploration, the characters everything is very well executed
Note : 10/10 Clair Obscur est une pépite.
Great story, great visuals, great music, great gameplay, overall great. I really enjoyed it, definitely my GOTY for this year, with KCD2 as the second.
This is simply one of the best games ever. The team made the game they wanted to play and put so much love into it, so much passion. Music, graphics, gameplay - it is just so good! For those you come after.
This is the best game I have ever played in my entire life. The fact that we can parry every hit makes the turn based game look more like an action game. If you have to play only one game in your life, choose Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
For those who come after !
The Game is worthy for the GotY Award.
The story and the characters are insane. Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 is a breathtaking masterpiece that effortlessly blends atmosphere, emotion, and innovation into an unforgettable experience. From the very first moments, the game pulls you deep into its hauntingly beautiful world, where every environment feels alive and every encounter carries weight. The narrative is crafted with remarkable depth, weaving mystery, tragedy, and hope together in a way that keeps you invested until the final second.
Each character is written with such care that their struggles feel intensely real — every conversation, every choice, and every revelation hits with surprising force.
Gameplay-wise, the combat is fluid, strategic, and incredibly satisfying. The mechanics feel fresh, polished, and purposeful, pushing you to think while keeping the adrenaline high. The artistic direction is nothing short of stunning: a perfect interplay of light and shadow that brings the “clair–obscure” theme to life visually and emotionally.
The soundtrack elevates everything even further, enhancing key moments with powerful melodies that stay with you long after you stop playing. This game isn’t just good—it’s exceptional. Rarely does a title deliver such a cohesive and emotionally resonant adventure. A definitive 10/10.
Wow… unbelievable, the immersion this game offers just in the introduction is breathtaking. More so than a game this is a work of art much like a great painting. The setting of the bell epoque further shows the developers vision in creating this. Can’t wait to see more.
The combat is very different when you compare it with the other turn based game. For me it is a bit harder but balanced i love it too much some boss fights takes like 30 minutes to win but you can win againts any bosses if you can parry good enough. However you cant win againts a boss which is more stronger than you in any other turn based games. And the story is also awesome one of the most beautiful written charcter cast and one of the best world buildings i have ever seen it is really worth playin top 10 game for me
Never have I felt like I needed to make a review on a game. This has got to be one of the if not the best game I have ever had the pleasure of playing. I hope to see more games from Sandfall Interactive.
I enjoyed my time with the game but it does have its issues. The music carries the game and it flows well with the story. There's no slop and they get straight to the point. A lot of the issues I can overlook since a small team made this. I thought some of the areas were very basic and looked pretty bad when you got up close. They went crazy with the bloom effects.
For those who will walk after us…A true masterpiece—one that can confidently be placed among the greatest works in the history of humanity. I haven’t seen this level of academic artistry in every frame, every word, and every sound in a very long time. A small game from an unknown studio, yet filled with such love and devotion that after finishing Expedition 33, you feel compelled to share it, to cultivate taste in others, to contribute even a tiny piece to the recognition of this **** gameplay goes, it’s a solid turn-based slasher filled with strings of damage numbers, QTE attacks and parries, alongside hundreds of modifiers the player can use to build their personal playstyle. However, to speak frankly—gameplay here stands firmly on secondary, if not tertiary, importance. So feel free to set the easiest difficulty and simply enjoy the story. I’ve often heard people say the difficulty is poorly balanced—can’t speak to that, but the fact remains: even someone as casual as I am completed it on **** visual component is breathtaking—ranging from stylish and vivid combat to indescribably beautiful locations and cinematic cutscenes. Wandering through the world of Clair Obscur is a pleasure on its own: even gloomy, oppressive, depressive areas possess their own aesthetic and haunting academic beauty—like staring at a painting of Pompeii’s last moments. The environments and the creative philosophy behind them should serve as an example for current and future developers. This can safely be called a new benchmark for the entire industry.Music.There isn’t much left to say about the soundtrack. Everything has already been said by millions before me, and all I can do is add my agreement. Games—and the world itself—lack music this deep, emotional, overwhelming, and sincere. I still remember freezing for ten full minutes on the main menu, hearing “Alicia” for the first time. Starting the game neutral and unbiased, I never expected the very first composition of an unfamiliar game to break me like that. The music truly deserves every award, every standing ovation. I take my hat off to everyone involved in its creation.Story.A story that breaks you and rebuilds you anew. A story that, when it ends, leaves you empty—but also full: of thoughts, feelings, ideas, and emotions. A narrative forged from powerful emotion and layered meaning, with each idea finding its reflection in the player. Everything—from the direction and pacing to the deep, complex, ambiguous, living characters—pulls you in and creates a deeply personal, intimate experience. And I am certain this experience has already changed more than one **** ending is so rich with symbolism, interpretations, and perspectives that you cling to each one—analyzing, doubting, rethinking—and yet questions remain. Not questions the game asks you—but questions you ask yourself. Don’t let the fantasy setting or the seemingly arcade nature deceive you: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 delivers emotional weight, artistic meaning, and narrative power deserving of the title masterpiece of 21st-century **** conclusion, I want to convince everyone—buy and play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Reward the creators for such a deep and emotional work. Become a part of something great. As long as projects like this exist—and as long as people honor them—the gaming industry, and human culture itself, will live.Tomorrow is coming.Thank you to everyone who read **** thank you, developers, for this profound and unforgettable experience—one I will carry for the rest of my life.
Truly a life changing game. I haven’t even finished it yet, but this couldn’t wait. Everyone needs to play this game even if they don’t like turn based gameplay. The exploration is still fun while limited but the combat is incredible and the level of customization is also great. It’s GOTY for good reason and will be remembered. It’s insane value for its price tag go buy it!
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden.
Please I beg you, don't watch reviews, don't watch gameplays, just literally PLAY IT. This game is one of the best experiences I ever had. Just watch a review if you really HATED all other turn based games you played before, but still, even if you dislike turn based, give a chance FOR THIS ONE. Zero reason for you not try if you have gamepass, and if you buy on Steam, just play straight for 60-90 minutes, its more than enough time for you to decide if you love it or will refund.
