CALENDULA
The gameplay mechanics alone were refreshing, but I honestly can’t recommend the game if you’re looking for something substantial. Calendula feels like a game that on the outside is full of ideas, but the story lacks the detail to be impactful.

For those who are searching for something different, something really bonkers. [04/2016, p.41]
Not content with simply letting you try to play it, Calendula is very much a game that plays you. It's a thrilling commentary on the relationship between player and game.

Great game for what it is. I'm giving a score related to the value of the game, which is great. It's a short game, with no tutorials, very simple gameplay yet complex/creative enough to capture your attention for a couple of hours. If anything it was too short but you can't expect much more from an indie budget title, yet it was more rewarding than some AAA titles.

There isn't much i can talk about here. But this is a very smart game, even if very short. The storyline is really up for interpretation, and i like that. It's pretty well made, and unique. It's a very good meta game, and it's pretty much a psychological horror game, and a damn of an effective one. Great atmosphere, and it feels disturbing, uncomfortable, unpleasent, unnerving, and of course, memorable. The game is surely short, but overall mindblowing. It's a really good game, that's pretty much all i can say. It creates suspense and anxiety, and it really disturbs you, it creeps you out, and surely it psychologically scared the hell out of me. A 10/10, without much to say exactly why, but i really enjoyed it overall.

CALENDULA is a weak horror game that doesn't want to be played. It is difficult, interesting, but is too short. I can complete this game in about 30 minutes. It starts off with a plain upside-down red triangle with a C on it. You decided to go on a new game, but you see an error. You try going into the configurations, but the game glitches when you change anything in the configurations. That's just the first puzzle, there are 16 puzzles in the game, with the eighth one being the most difficult.

I have no words... I've just played Calendula and I think it is amazing. It is different. I think it is an experience. It felt like a movie, very Lynch-y. It is not a game for everybody, but I've recommended it to some friends, hope they like it as much as I do. It has just become one of my favourite indie games.

This is like a digital séance. It is quite monotonous, but you’ll encounter some eerie and disturbing moments.

Calendula is a game that wants to surprise the player, and it does achieve that. We feel like it could've told a story or deliver a deeper, richer experience, but it feels like a solid foundation for the studio.

Interesting and different but too short and shallow to be really noteworthy.

It’s a game that tries too hard to be vague and ambiguous that it ultimately leaves the content that is there to process feeling disproportionately stagnant.

Okey, this was... awesomely different? I don't wanna spoil the experience, so it's hard to talk about it. I was amazed by how different it is from everything I played so far, and even with its short duration, how fullfilling it was for me. Want me to define it? Smart, anxious, well-rounded, uncomfortable, unique... and also meta as **** Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Finally! Here you have a mind-blowing game that proposes something different! Calendula is a great experience. The game uses the desire of playing as building blocks for creating a new game-mechanics. Could be said that is new genre itself. Of course, all this is followed by the necessary technical and narrative sensibilities to tell a well-rounded story. I hope Blooming Buds keeps working in new titles. No doubt they will have my money. Totally worth it!

SummaryCalendula is an experimental meta game about trying to play a game. Use your logic to thrive against conventions and get surrounded by a dark atmosphere.
