It remains an incomplete, albeit perfectly watchable puzzle.

If anything, the director heightens the human intensity of the original play, blessed by a cast (Fraser and Scott in particular) who bring remarkable nuance and depth to driven characters trying to make sense of, and find a clear path through, the fog of war.

As the title suggests, Coyote vs Acme is a courtroom drama, but it’s also a conspiracy thriller, corporate satire, screwball farce, slapstick masterclass, and surprisingly touching bromance.

As it stands, it’s a solid enough movie with its heart in the right place and moments of well-executed joy, but viewers may be left with a nagging sense of opportunities missed.

Mutiny won’t win any awards and it certainly won’t be the best action flick devotees of the genre see this year (they may well see a better one on a streaming platform this week), but at 95 minutes it doesn’t outstay its welcome, and is curiously capable of still raising a smile. Maybe not from Jason, though; that’s never been his thing.

There’s an absence of structure, a lack of a clearly defined narrative arc to keep viewers fully engaged or on the edge of their seats eager to see how the tentative bonds between Me and Iam play out.

Shorn of its music, however, Power Ballad pivots between drama and comedy without ever staking a claim to be either; the subject matter could have been bitingly satirical, or a more focused cautionary tale, but instead settles into fuzzy-round-the-edges bromance which, while undeniably engaging, might struggle to stay in the memory once the closing credits have rolled.

It's a visual treat, often employing split-screen effects that give viewers a more intimate sense of proceedings, and the man of the hour, alongside Yoko Ono and backed by the New York-based band Elephant's Memory, is effortlessly charismatic throughout.

In all fairness, Tuason ups the ante in the last reel, the pedestrian tease of what went before giving way to more palpably spooky shenanigans, but it’s a ludicrously long wait for the yarn to step up a gear that runs the risk of the audience having already given up on the whole affair.

This is science fiction with a reassuring soul, where the sombre comes bearing a smile, and the vastness of space is never quite so scary when you’re sharing it with a new pal.
