When she isn’t addressing the elephant in the room—and her version is definitely a cute Dumbo of a pachyderm rather than a rampaging wild beast—the humor is so gentle it’s positively anemic. .... For DeGeneres to liken her failure to provide a safe and equitable work environment with homophobia and ageism displays an astonishing lack of understanding. And it certainly isn’t funny.
Robyn’s meet-gross with Jewel sets off a pleasingly complicated investigation and meting out of justice with more than enough explosions, costume changes, and social commentary to justify The Equalizer’s cushy premiere slot right after the Super Bowl.

The show is beautifully plotted. The many intrigues in the worlds of politics, journalism, business, and PR are given just enough twists and turns to be surprising, but never so many that they become tiresome.
The show relied heavily on pre-taped sketches: First came an overlong, cameo-heavy bit about Corden’s unlikely path to the late-night lineup.... Corden bears an odd resemblance to a golden retriever—friendly, approachable, and desperately eager to please.
