I was trying hard to like this game, or at least trying to actually play it to see what it is. But that task is just impossible, because this game is an horrible technical mess! First you have to spent an hour just to familiarize yourself with the clunky controls and the horrible mouse sensibility. After that you think your problems are gone, but they're not... you found a lot of things you can do with your collected objects, but very soon you realize they don't make any sense, so you start to search and try every bizarre combination to try to solve simple puzzles and this take long, much more long than your patience. The worst is... every new room i entered i got struggle with a buggy blinking environment lights that makes me literally close my eyes to not being blind. Sometimes it stop in a few seconds, sometimes don't, and i found me running or shaking the mouse trying to stop the madness. Sometimes i had to go to options and click every button, then it stops. It is really a shame that game being published this way, because i really like the mystery mood, but it's really impossible to play. In the Steam forums you see any decent answer either by Dreampainters or Kalypso Media. You just don't get any support, unless a false statement that is a Unity problem. You buy a broken game and it's your own problem, they'll not fix it. Also, you have to make a Kalypso account and login in a launcher every time you start the game, even with no online resources. This publisher is one of the worst i ever seen, they don't have any respect or care with customers. I'll skip any title under their label forever.

Game Dev Tycoon

You are a game developer, working on your garage in the early years of gaming, developing from the old Commodore 64 to Ouya or XBox One. In the next 30-40 years you will grow side by side with the gaming industry, researching technology, design, marketing, and trying to make history. Game Dev Tycoon is an addictive casual game, and although not so deep in the simulation aspect, provides a wide range of resources to manage, and to master this management you'll have to play it more than once, since the tips about how the market reacts to combinations of topic/genre/platform and time spent on each level of developing, still unlocked to the next playthrough. What kind of game the market wants now? Which technology is better to use? May i spent more time on level design or artificial intelligence? May i have to create a new engine or research new topics? It's better to make it alone or it's time to move on to another work space and hire employees? Shall i spent more time creating games or studying? How about to have a boot at this year convention? Self-publishing or using a publisher? May i need to sue pirates, give away old engines or let the fans to make related games? That's some of the questions you'll face while playing. About the flaws, the game have some, mostly because it needed more work to put together all this resources without compromising the gameplay. But facing it like a casual, cheap game, and learning how the game works, these flaws doesn't matter that much at the point of being big problems.

Hexcells Plus

Hexcells Plus is an atmospheric puzzle game with really logic levels on which you never have to guess, but cross-analyse clues to make the right decision. Sometimes you can almost swear you reach the point in a level there are no clues on what to do next, and you'll have to play a dice, but it's just the result of a very well done bunch of intricate puzzles, despite their clean and simple presentation. You have some different kind of clues and it's variations to deal with, which can be hard and confusing, but the game provides you marker features to help you with it. It felts a bit short to me, despite more than 20 hours spent to get perfect on all levels, and i still wanting more. So that's no doubt an awesome game to me and those who also enjoy this style. For those who know the old Minesweeper, the mechanics of Hexcells Plus are similar, without bombs.

Cart Life (2013)
8
User Scoreericcoutinho
Jun 12, 2014
Cart Life is focused on story, and the everyday life of simple workers trying to survive in the real world. You'll see yourself engaged in their hard and time-consuming tasks like paying the rent, bills, take care of a son or a cat, eating, addictions, dealing with people and their own problems. You'll be challenged everyday to manage their time at work, travel, and common tasks. Earning money is a constant concern, and it will be very hard. Meantime (a very scarce time) you have to know your new city, what you can get at local stores, for how much, and what you can get to improve your business. To get a life, to be happy and healthy, not just to survive, and you will be concerned by your character in a sad, depressive way. Cart Life is not an easy game on any aspect. It takes me 10hs just to have a relatively good ending with a single of the three characters. Although the description like "a retail simulator" is true, don't expect so much depth about it. The mechanics are very simple - sometimes dull - and most of the time you'll struggle with them. It's not a game design issue, but a perceived and mostly well-done attempt to reproduce the boring and mechanical aspects of a simple work. About bugs. I had some difficulty to put the game to work, and the single author doesn't give us any support or patches. I still getting very rare crashes (like 2 or 3 in 10 hours). But some things i saw people complaining doesn't seem like bugs to me, like the cash register refusing to open sometimes, or realizing you have no change, and you'll lose your customer. I saw these things perfectly fitting the game purpose, and i think most people will see them like bugs because of the random aspect of the game, or the absence **** AI. So, every time you open your cash register this random aspect will define how much money it have inside, and you can see the same customer many times on a single day. The art style is fabulous for those who had an MSX or similar by the 80's, and although we had not mouses at this time, the gameplay is very closer, sometimes dull like i said before. The soundtrack are really good and old school too, and the music will stay in your head for a long time after playing.

Samorost 2 have good visuals, sounds and music, both very closer to Machinarium. But i can't recommend it because this game have too many negative points... a lot of them. The first thing you notice is that you can't change resolution - you have to play it on a very tinny window. Being a Flash game, you can zoom in the image - and it's good - but you have to do it at every single new clip loaded. No Steam working layer, also. The puzzles doesn't make much sense, so you have to pixel-hunt on your tinny screen, or bother yourself zooming every new screen. You'll fight to find the point to click many times, mostly places you need to enter or walking by, because they're not so visible, and considering the puzzles doesn't make much sense, it's always a waste of time and patience. The game is very, very short. Not even 2 hours. And part of this time you'll just watch your character slowly walking from a place to another, and since sometimes you have to do the same things more than once, it's very annoying. Also, you have not a save system, any of them. Instead, you receive codes every new level, and you can enter these codes if you want to play it later. If you don't realize the purpose of these codes to memorize them or take note, you'll have to play again from beginning, and considering what i said about slowly walking, you know what does it mean. Finally, you don't have any real support from Amanita Design (developer). They're not present at Steam forums, and never patch their games to fix, improve or adapt them to continue to sell them. Although the asked price is low, it's not worth unless because of the art style.

One of the funniest games i play recently. If you think the actual DLC-madness is ridiculous, and doesn't understand people who buy them, you'll find some funny too. But if you are a DLC-maniac, don't buy that game, you can be angry about the jokes. :D Some people tell that game is too short. It takes me an hour to "beat" it unless 2 achievements. Actually is not about beating, cause there's no real difficult to finish him. But i think that kind of game can't be long, it'll starting to be boring after 2hs or so. That's a critic to the gaming industry, and i have to say that's clever and truth. I'll play it again, no doubts, to grab all achievements and to making funny screenshots.

I ended up enjoying it, but i can't recommend Thirty Flights of Loving, unless you carefully read about it and knows exactly what you'll get or experience. Then you can find it cool, just after you understand what it is. My first experience was disappointing. Being someone who usually enjoy art games or interactive experiences, i start it thinking about a cool, deep story-driven game, but i found me just watching disordered short scenes of a shallow and confusing story, instead of really playing something. It ended really fast, abruptly and letting me with a "wtf?!" in mind. The graphics, lights, colors and music are really cool, but it was not enough to make me enjoy. Then i try it again a few days later. Knowing what to expect, the experience was far better, and i used to enjoy it and understand it. Using the commentaries feature, i found it was a developer experience, something really personal using his experiences on gaming design and pieces he previously wanted to use in other ways. I don't read all the comments yet, and i still having to play better the Gravity Bone bonus, who seems to have more gameplay elements, but if you're ok with all that i said before, i can recommend this experience to you, it worth your time. But i'll not recommend to everybody, mostly without that explanation about what i feel in my first contact with it.

And then i found me discovering little things like interactions with sounds through environments, that leads me to finally understand the different and curious gameplay. I wanted to tell you about it, but you have to experience for yourself. I found me smiling for nothing not rarely, with a mixed up feeling of excitement and joy. And it have a meaning - very simple and easy to guess - that you may discover till the end. I'll certainly replay it. Not recommended for those who don't like to experience new things, or those who like gameplay, controls and interactions complexity.

Nothing special, but a lot of mindless fun, at least to me, all very simple. It's casual, but have a grinding component that keeps me playing, although the rewards are too sparse. The worst part is the annoying AI. The AI opponents are not dumb, but they will forget the race just to crash on you. Sometimes you even start and they bang on, one by one, leaving you trying to recover the race. They are experts on doing that, it's like developers wanted to troll us. The scenery have some glitches you may learn. It's exactly what you get on mostly 10 dollar game. Something fun, you feel that lacks some polish, not much depth or resources. But still enjoyable, funny and a little addictive, but the AI doesn't let you play a lot of time without losing patience, may be a good thing.

This is an amazing and surprising game, forgetting the endless discussion about definitions on what a game is. It's not conventional, it have few gameplay elements, it's story-driven - an intriguing, mysterious and very beautiful story, by the way. It starts very boring and confusing. You have to spend some time, wandering around the island - with beautiful graphics - to catch fragments of this story, which are randomly narrated, and may reveal something to you through the journey. But this story will finish with some gaps, leading you to want to play again to catch more fragments and then, possibly understand the full story of Esther and the protagonist, although that story have a lot of metaphoric interpretations too. The journey is full of small well placed elements you can see and add to your interpretation. It lasts three hours to me, and after two more hours i'm still thinking about Dear Esther story, my head full of the images, the thoughts, and the music of this really wonderful game.

The concept is not that bad, but even considering yourself like someone who appreciate gaming experiments, this one have nothing to save him. It started to me like: "What the hell is this game?!" I found it boring, meaningless, lacking so many things... But then, firstly the awesome soundtrack - kind of a sad and beautiful blues - started to put me on a certain mood. After that, the graphic art seems to found out his place, in addition to a growing concern about the "children" and some cruel things you must to do in order to keep them fed. And that's it... i can't say anymore without spoil. Shelter is a beautiful ode to nature and motherhood. You can give it to your own children if you have some, and show them some simple and important lessons about nature. It's a short (like 2 hours), different game, which will certainly add one more experience for those who are seeking for new things.

I can say that, because i play pinball before, at the end of the 80's at the flipperama houses. But i think even people who never play it before can enjoy it. That is a free table to play, and i think it's one of the better. Just try... :) Despite the problems at launch, they manage to fix them all. They put the "free to play" label, although at this time Pinball FX had no free tables. A lot of people refuses to buy and a little before they change the label, lastly including the free table. Now the game can be named free to play, but they decided to don't. I really enjoy all tables i bought until now. And worth the full price.

Very funny and kind of addictive matching puzzle game. It's easy to play and you'll learn very fast. Little Farm have 20 levels, which one with 4 rounds to beat. You have to take care of your farm and earn money to buy improvements - each one that grants you a new tool or building - to better manage your crops, trucks and water, and deal with bugs, rabbits, crows and raining clouds. You get short comics, bonus levels and oil searching between that levels too. The game reminds me Triple Town but with different mechanics, and a little of Plants vs. Zombies, because of the progression and shop/upgrade systems. This is very well done in this game too, you'll want to continue to play to buy that improvements and see them working. But at the very ending it gets boring, because you have to finish the last 5 levels or so, just collecting money but not being able to buy anything more. The only thing that keeps pushing me until the end was the Harvest Mode, unlockable just after finish the entire story mode.

It's a good game prototype or concept, and even if it's not the case, that's how it looks like and how i feel playing it. However, i can recommend this game because even that way you can enjoy it a lot like me, and the asked price is very low, mostly if compared to other games from the same developer and/or publisher. You start choosing the German or one of the three allied nations from WWI: British, French or American - each one with an specific perk and different planes to fly. Then you choose from a variety of missions to run - like Ace vs Ace, escort, bombardment and defense missions, to cite some - leveling your pilots and granting upgrades and new maneuver trees to use with them in the turn-based hex field. Ace Patrol have a lot of resources, but they are just concepts of a potentially deep bad- strategy game. At the actual stage you must face it more like a casual than a strategy game, and may experience some frustration at realizing that not a polished, not even finished game as it is. You can finish a campaign on easy difficult in about 2 hours, but the achievements are really exciting to pursue, and the gameplay although simple and glitched is very engaging and funny.

A remarkable story that puts the Bioshock franchise in a place where anything can happen next and everything from the series were placed together. Deep and engaging characters, astonishing visuals and a truly rich backstory fulfilled with a mixture of history and fantasy, covering aspects of our society like the struggle of social classes or religion and state exploit, make one of the best games of all time. Bugs at the beginning, some boring mechanics, unjustified excessive violence, bad design/budget decisions, the well known millions of chain quests covering the same places over and over, and mostly the unbelievable absence of a decent save system almost ruin the game or make it average, but the good points are just awesome and hold Bioshock Infinite like an awesome, over the top game. It's a good mix of action and story - entertainment and art excellence. Good concept, artwork and sounds. Nothing more, because this game have so many flaws. Some puzzles doesn't make any sense at all, some are too easy and some others need you to click fast on tiny elements - sometimes moving at the screen, all a little glitched - a real pain. The hint system is equally bad, and considering the nonsensical and glitched puzzles, you'll probably wait the long time required to access the hint, just having to search an walkthrough after that. The story is awful, for kids at best. You see Hamlet's references, nothing more. Why is a good concept? It's a point and click adventure with action puzzles, most of them on boss battles - yes, boss battles in a P&C adventure. Also, it's a mock version of a literature classic with short comics between the acts. It will be great if it was not so poorly executed.

I played the first 3 chapters, and so far i got any bugs unless the Steam layer that doesn't work. The puzzles are good enough, they're reasonable and you'll not have to try combinations of objects desperately trying to guess because of bad designing. You may found some difficult at the main/last puzzle of each chapter - they're hard, but not nonsensical. It is a collection of great and beautiful craftwork, but it doesn't try to stand by the art itself, being part of a very good story with solid gameplay, so it's a great game. This game is awesome, nothing less. I got 18hs straight playing it, just cannot stop until finish, through a really good and very tense narrative and different action/gameplay style who puts you in the middle of difficult decisions, which have direct impact on what's going on next. You have not always the time to think about, just react, but if your reactions are bad you can have troubles now or after, consequences brought by your decisions. And just like on real life, some of them you will have to carry with you until the end of story. Although you have to follow a lot of dialogues, more than real action, you cannot simply sit down and think, most of times. You have to be ready to act or make decisions, so you just stare at the screen, and not rarely you can feel you're really there, a deep immersion factor. Soundtrack is decent, matching the tension. Graphics are wonderful, and history too. I can see just two problems about that game: You can lost a split second, confusing by the controls, and sometimes it's lethal. The good news is that although the game have not a better save system than autosave, if you die on the middle of an action scene the autosave brings you exactly at the point you died. Also, the game have a lot of replay value, if you think you can have different decisions to make and different things to handle according on how you act before. But the game needs a way to skip some cut scenes or even dialogues faster, for those who previously finished. One of the best and imaginative games i've ever played.

You'll have to manage resources, research alien materials, train and customize your soldiers, capture aliens alive to study them, build facilities, weapons, gadgets, robots, all kind of features to help you to deal with an unknown alien menace. The biggest part of this game is at turn-based strategy battles, with a third person point of view on shooting enemies or doing another actions. You are a space traveler from Earth, playing your way to earn spaceship parts to get back home, in a planet where opponents from different races challenges you in an enhanced version of Air Hockey. Each one of these opponents have their own mood and equipment - mallets, pucks and special strikes - and you can earn them unlocking their biographies parts. I found this game surprisingly good enough to keep me playing for hours, and at least a few matches everyday since i started to play it. Never heard about that game before i get it from a bundle, but it's definitely not that kind of game you feel worthy just to get this way. Graphics and animations are better than usual in a casual game, the soundtrack is simple and repetitive but gorgeous, sounds and physics are enough convincing, and the gameplay is very good. Almost free of bugs, compelling and challenging, it's a very good and well done casual game. There are a wide range of tasks, quests, a good amount of Steam achievements and a lot of internal ones, which grants you resources to leveling, earn equipment/upgrades, unlock new floors/levels and play to earn more on a funny coin machine. The game have different play modes like duel, bet and survival, and well-imagined systems to enhance what otherwise would be a simple Air Hockey match. I found a single bug, and although is an annoying one, it happens just when playing with an specific puck. I got also some very rare performance issues, but they're shortly enough to not bother you while playing.
