You start your first the game, the atmosphere is terrifying, sound of your footsteps frightens you. You get to the Boss and you are scared ****. Now that I'm talking about it this would have been an amazing singleplayer game. ---------- Sad thing is you cheese the boss by peeking into the door as there is no real reason to run around and quite likely die in the process of trying to kill it. You meet other hunters for the first time your heart is beating. I didn't even know we had to kill each other but they shot first. Somehow you manage to survive and escape. ---------- Fast forward to your hundredth game. You run for the clues on the map you've played like the 20th to 50th time kill the same zombies one more annoying than the next. You kill the boss by throwing a dynamite on its head doesn't matter at which of those bosses it was. And you are killed with either a shotgun a bomb launcher but more often than not by a sniper rifle from the other side of the cliff ---------- I don't want to hate on the combat in this game because when it works it works like nothing else. You can outsmart you other players in ways no other game gives you an option. Thing is no matter how smart you are or what a genius strategy you came up with when you meet a guy that is literally level 1000 after conversion while you have 20 hours in the game your team is dead ---------- I don't know it's like they missed something. They had the perfect formula. On paper and in the first few hours this game is amazing. But they failed to fine-tune it.

I don't like it, I am told time and time again that this game has the best combat there is and I mean yeah kind of. You have two dozen moves 6 possible dodge animations three damage output options but everything past a light attack and dodge is an eye candy you are not encouraged to expand your move set at all except for a higher damage output but I digress. Well now you are probably impressed with the deepness your movement but the actual combat in my eyes is quite ****. Because it doesn't matter how flashy your character movement is when his opponent is i.e. minecraft zombie, and that's pretty much the environment of this game. The player and the enemies don't mesh together, you throw out your combo, back off, the boss does his combo and you do yours again and repeat. I spent the first 10 to 15 hours trying to figure out how do I make the combat seamless like in DarkSouls jumping through attacks and punishing or like in Sekiro a beautiful dance of deflections and retaliation But alas Nioh is not any of those games, your character is the whole game the rest is your playground for your witty and efficient combos and enemies are there just to play the role of semi sentient training dummy.

It's a fake game an impostor. There is nothing sadder in a management game than a scripted event and this game is nothing if not a series of scripts, there is no hearth beating in it. A book has a similar amount of interactivity. At the end **** you are told to get this and this amount of food to survive and I got myself a month's worth of it and a second after that a pop up appears that people are fighting over supplies. The resources are practically infinity there is no danger to their scarcity no need to optimize your production and consumption right up the alley of its historical setting, but I did wonder what animals could be there left to hunt? I was extremely well off from the mid game onwards I was telling myself that man this city is a utopia even in terms of contemporary cities if I could make multiple shifts people would have to work 4 hours a day. Of course a scripted event happened and somehow sizeable portion of my utopia thought that going into the frozen hell would be better than living comfortably here. Again the worst ludonarrative dissonance I have seen in a game. 4 people died out of 700 at the end of my playthrough , 2 because of scripted event at the start ****. It's a beautiful game, although not well optimized. The lore of the world and it's inhabitants is enthralling. But it's more of a movie worth watching rather than a game worth playing

Came here to relive F.E.A.R but I got an out of place DOOM. It's fun to just shoot things once in a while but think a bit too much and it falls apart. Visually and gameplay wise it's a great game. The AI of enemies is great when you don't look too hard. However the whole game feels like an expanded tech demo where the devs didn't know what to add so they just did the same thing ad nauseam.
