I want to explain my low score. I'm usually a very middling scorer and this was very much a middling movie. The visuals are nice, but it's not enough to carry the story, which... well most of the time when you tell similar stories, it would take half the time, and there would be more... something afterwards. This is of course because they want to give a greater visual experience, but that's not why I'm seeing the movie. So for me, the yellow ratings from 4-6 implies that I would would watch it again, if it happened to say be on TV, but wouldn't seek it out. The plot though is so dull I would never be able to sit through it again. Even the visuals, while nice, are missing something. The way they're arranged they could be done in a way that enhanced the movie better and just highlighted the CGI better.

It's in the genre of "If I had this super power, I wouldn't save innocents, I would make a million dollars! I would live a life of luxury!" Not every power is as clear cut to do that as teleportation, but if you can teleport, you teleport. The protagonist doesn't care about anything except having the best life he can have and is something of a moron (I'm being chased by people that know I can teleport, I'll immediately go back to my hometown to hide!). Also a good lesson in how something as "simple" as teleportation can be horribly abused.

Why do I score it an 8? Because it amused me. Maybe nostalgia. You should go into this movie knowing what it is, a goofy movie about a handful of humans fighting monsters in a competition to save the world. It's not high art. There are two major issues, Mortal Kombat never "officially" occurs and a stupid amount of content is shoved into the last thirty minutes of the movie. It definitely could have been improved, but it happily takes the throne of it's predecessors.
