It’s a f2p game, you can buy currency, but there’s no reason to do that, just level up and unlock all the weapons and then cosmetics as you play. It’s fun with friends(but all games are) and I can’t imagine playing it solo, because it seems so empty otherwise. I found the announcers annoying, so turned that off after like 3 games. Some maps are pretty crappy for transversing, and while the world is completely destroyable, some characters have much better ways at breaching and utilizing that feature from the default class. Characters are pretty bland looking even for a AA game, some annoying mechanics they need to update, one big one is that glass is completely transparent, so you’ll run into it, and then have to smack or shoot it, instead of just breaking the glass naturally if you’re sprinting. The tutorial honestly **** is very short and skippable, so not a time sink if you already know everything), it doesn’t explain most of the mechanics, thank goodness I was playing with friends who had played it before me so they could explain. The maps have environment and time changing, so sometimes it’s raining, or it’s noon instead of 7pm, all that is nice and welcome. It’s not going to alter the match drastically, but it’s a nice way to SLIGHTLY buff the lack of maps. More games should do this, while not shirking on map variety. It’s fine for what it is, runs well on Xbox, it’s cross platform to PS and PC and you can turn that off too, fast matchmaking, 3 regions to choose from(Asia, EU, and NA, **** to be Australian), I’m sure they’ll add more game types, maps, and weapons as it goes on, but it’s free from a non-AAA studio. I’d say if you play it casually every once in awhile with friends you’ll get a lot out of it, don’t play it for hours every day for a week, you’ll get bored fast, just mix it into your rotation.

Never played previous AC games but this was a nice introduction into the series. Some silly complaints I’ve seen for the game are the unvarying world and that it’s lifeless. That seems odd to me because off the top of my head you visit several biomes and there’s a clear distinction in how cities are built depending on which faction occupies it, and that goes the same for mechs and AC too. As for why the world is “gray” or “lifeless”, yes, the planet is in the middle of fighting for a resource and it barely survived an event that scarred the galaxy, so I don’t know why you’d be expecting bushes and trees scattered everywhere, the planet is barely alive, that’s one of the major themes of the game. Other people complain about the lack of human models in a mech game… the draw of the game is the mechs, not the humans. Why do you care about the literal faces of the people? The voiceovers in the game and the roles people play do a great job of letting your imagination decide how they look. Do you need to see character’s speak to know what they’re like personally? Their job, personality, stylized AC aren’t enough? You need to see lips move to get to really know them? The combat is another thing people bemoan, I’ve seen people complain you just dodge left or right the whole fight. And yes, I thought that initially too, but then I realized, what if rushing past the missiles or over the heads was a better option? And sure enough, it is. The enemies do it, so why don’t you?Using mechs to the full power is what will make you enjoy the game, the people not enjoying the combat are probably still stuck in two-dimensional fighting style. Is the story amazing? Compared to Dark Souls and their ilk, yes, but that’s because those games don’t really have a story, they have lore and you’re putting it all together. In AC6 you’re actually apart of the story, and while a little obvious at points, it’s still a fun story with some characters you’ll learn to like as you play. The customization I’ve seen for this game is where it shines. I’ve seen people replicating John Deere tractors with their AC, gundams and transformers, and even crazier. While it’s easy to find the meta and the cheesy guns that will melt bosses and mobs, it’s still fun and rewarding to experiment with other weapons, armor, and software to make a more engaging play style. I truly enjoyed the game, I don’t believe it’s as good as their Souls stuff, but the art, story, combat, and world is welcome, and I hope it continues. The only true complaint I have is that the mission types need some variety. Too many are simply “go here and kill these guys”, and to be fair, you’re a mercenary, so what should I expect? But they did have a good bit of variety, so I know they’re aware they can do more than just “go in guns blazing and hit hard”. Overall a great game that I think is worth $60, and if you’re iffy, just wait until it’s a bit cheaper, but I think you should play it now to avoid spoilers and be able to enjoy some PvP before most people leave it.

A failure at telling a, potentially interesting, story. The gameplay is a drag, the world is barren and uneventful, characters do not change and are unfulfilling. Side quest as a whole are not recommended. How can this be a RPG if side quest are almost all just poorly designed fetch quest with no motive? How is it open world if the world has nothing to offer exploring? The combat is repetitive and shallow too. After 3 hours of playing I never died again, because by that time I realized most enemies could be knocked down with the lance magic and then killed in one button press. The soundtrack is good and interesting, but forcing players to repeat the second half of the game 4 times with minimal additions to the story will make it so someone trying to like the game will mute the audio, skip all cutscenes(which we’ve seen multiple times by now), and just rush through 4 hours of trivial boss fights to get 5 minutes of now content at the very end. If someone wants to know the lore of the Nier games I would recommend skipping this game and just reading the plot online for a brief idea, it’s not like most of the plot actually matters. It only becomes interesting at the end of each route.
