WWI: Verdun - Western Front8
Apr 13, 2017
Verdun is unique in almost every way, from the slower pace shooting to looking through gas masks through the chlorine, from the artillery fire to reloading weapons which is the slowest i've seen (but in a good way) in a game period, the maps, weapons and nationality's all feel authentic, beats Battlefield 1 by a long shot. As great as Verdun is, it does have its short comings. For starters the hit detection is a hit/miss, weapons back then was inaccurate compared to today but when I'm about 6'foot away from and enemy with a Lmg and its taking me 5 shots before it registers, it gets a little annoying, to this day i still haven't figured out whether i should shoot just above the reticule or just below and trying to melee enemies is very clunky. I wish you could go in a tank as a special power sort of thing or in the artillery or airplanes. The graphics aswell are a bit outdated but i think it sets the atmosphere and lastly what this games needs is a campaign because when your fighting people online your getting sniped ALOT (kind of like sticking your index finger above the trench) and in squads fighting the a.i, the a.i are dumb and can be terrible shots up close and at long ranges i've been sniped in the head while I'm in cover. Overall though it's an experience worth playing and again every once in awhile, you just have to bear in mind that this is an indie game and at £6.49p it was worth every penny, i would go as far to say its worth the full £15.99p asking price. I hope if the developers are reading this (i got your message in the loading screen ;-) ) that you could make a sequel with a bit more polish and new mechanics such as tanks, artillery, planes and a campaign. They have done a great job at capturing world war 1 and wish there was more companies to try something new and different in this day of "been there done that" games

Darkest Dungeon6
Oct 15, 2016
I myself love turn based games such as xcom and steamworld heist and this game unfortunately is abit disappointing. I'll start with the pros: The atmosphere is great, the narrator is brilliant, the soundtrack fits this game perfectly and the art style is superb. The cons: It is gruelingly difficult to the point that it takes the fun away unless you like pain like dark souls. it's frustrating. I felt as well there wasn't much gameplay to it, you just click a button and hope for the best unlike steamworld heist where you have to manually aim, so it involves you more. And there isn't much variation to the game, within 2 hours i'd pretty much seen all it had to offer. The stress mechanic is a novel idea but it goes up way too fast. The level design was cool at first but then after awhile each corridor and room looked the same. I think its a great idea this game and i know most people will disagree with me but i felt it could of been executed better.

Space Hulk9

If you like the xcom style games then you'll probably like this, granted it's not as good though, but it's still a lot of fun to play. To me it's like alien colonial marines turn based strategy. All your terminators have a helmet camera so you see what they see and i think it really puts you in the vibe and the eerie ambient sounds and the lights down dark metal hallways add great atmosphere. The story is you go to space hulk which is a gigantic spaceship to take back the ship you lost century's ago to the genestealers and your outnumbered considerably. The graphics are ok nothing to brag about, The gameplay is fun but challenging and you don't know how many genestealers there are or where they are once they've spawned. The voice acting is great and all the weapons feel great. The biggest problem about this game is the price wait for it to go down about half price.

Headlander6

This is a unique game setting, the 70's sci fi is great, the ambient music, sounds and art style were brilliant. Apart from that its a slog to go through, i only completed it for the platinum. It's just that the story is weak, the laser fights are to precise which makes fights hard and the boss fights was bad, annoyingly bad, if you die just before you kill the boss you have to do the whole 4 stages again. The map layout is similar to shadow complex so there is quite a lot of back tracking to do which is frustratingly boring. It is a different game just not a very good one.

This game **** on so many levels, from the main character to the story and to the puzzles. The puzzles were so easy that i was simply bored and when i did come across a hard one it was like you just know how to solve it. The story and that ending was bad and the main character was annoying the way he talked after about 20mins i hated him. The only good thing about this game is the visuals. There are plenty other puzzle games infinitely better than this on the ps4. Just watch some of the walkthrough and you'll see

For ages i passed by this game without giving it a second look. I thought to myself it looks boring, a game that never ends( till you die that is) and not worth the 11.99 pounds it was asking. Till it went on offer for the third time and i had nothing else to play so i thought why not and i was amazed how robust this game is, from the gameplay to the story to the art style and the soundtrack. I love the fact that it doesn't give you a tutorial to begin with. You just start off on a randomly generated world and you have to figure out what to do which i liked because i was using my brain instead of the game holding my hand through it. if you like survival games then pick this up its well worth the price of 11.99. I've had more fun with this game than i have with a lot of triple a titles.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag10
Aug 15, 2016
It's the pirates of the Caribbean game Disney never made. Simply awesome, granted it took me about 5 hours before i got the swing of things but once i did i was away. It took me around 200 hours to complete this game 100% and I've enjoyed pretty much all of it, the only thing that i didn't like was the sneaking stuff, just not my thing. I would say though if you didn't like the other assassin's creed games then pick this up because it's nothing really like them and it is a unique game in itself. The story was good until the last quarter of the game and then it was brilliant. The visuals was pretty good especially the sea, the ships blasting each other and boarding them never gets old, the characters and voice acting is great and the fighting in close quarters is fun similar to the batman arkham series. All together the best pirate game I've ever played.

Simply put if you like walking simulators and pretty visuals then you will like this game because there is nothing else to it. The only story is by what you see, the only gameplay is walk and jump that is it. There is zero reason to play this game a second time. Its not a game its an un interactive movie

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir5
Aug 15, 2016
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is unique in the visuals. The effort they've put into the art is brilliant, beautiful hand drawn sketches and colours, the story and voice acting is pretty good too. Its such a shame the gameplay is extremely repetitive and not in an addictive way. I had enough of the gameplay after 30mins. You could compare the combat similar to Castle Crashers but O.S.L has more combos. If you liked the gameplay in Castle Crashers you'll probably like this. But my opinion is to wait for it to go down in price

There is zero reason to play this game. The motion controls are awful, the gameplay is just eat other organism's and grow bigger and ..... well that's it. There is nothing i enjoyed about this game. It needs so much more development to be even considered an okay game

Just Cause 310
Aug 11, 2016
The just cause series have gotten better with each game. Yes there's not much to it but its so much fun doing cool stunts, explosives and destruction. This game is like a cross between James bond, Red and the A team more leaning on the latter. if you like them then you'll probably like this. Its a game you switch off to and have pure gameplay fun. p.s love the intro song

There are so few games like this anymore where they nail the horror and atmosphere without being Graphically violent. Its so creepy and scary that i still haven't finished it. From what I've seen its quite interesting the story and i love the fact that the levels are randomly generated. Its one of my favorite horror games and i would reccomend it. The developers say at the beginning of the game to be on your own at night and with headphones. Its a whole new level of scary.

Grow Home10
Aug 11, 2016
Now this is a relaxing game. You go at your own pace at growing the plant to your ship in space. Obviously this game isn't for everyone but its a quirky indie game that takes about 10 hours to finish 100% and its well worth the asking price. There isn't much of a story but it's an interesting game and a fun and an addictive one. The character B.U.D and M.O.M are great. I just got lost in this game finding rare fauna, flora and crystals. The task is simple but addictive and can't wait for grow up the sequel.

Well if the art director wanted people to experience what he did when he went diving then WHAT THE HELL DID HE FIND DOWN THERE!. But seriously this game is an artsy fartsy kind of game its not a deep kind of game at all. you just swim about and say look at that fish, look at coral which yes the art style is very good but that's it i want more from a GAME!. Not a flipping (no pun intended) swimming simulator its not a game I'd rather watch finding nemo which is just about as long and has a hell of a lot more replay value. If i want a relaxing game I'll go and play Grow home which has gameplay

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End10
Aug 11, 2016
A masterpiece ****. It ticks all of the boxes. The story is brilliant, the relationship between him and his brother is great, the gameplay is awesome combines gun, melee, sneek combat, puzzles exploration brilliantly. For me the pacing was perfect, not too hectick but not too slow. This game is a fitting conclusion to the Nathan drake series. It's just a shame it has to end, the uncharted series are my favorite games ever and each game they keep on getting better and better. Naughty dog have really shined. The only problem i have with the game is how it end i mean don't get me wrong it's probably the best way to end it, i just thought it was going to be like mind blowing and instead it was a straight forward ending. still an epic game nonetheless

The Technomancer4
Aug 11, 2016
I was so let down by this game, simply put....disappointed. The characters were wooden, the graphics were just about acceptable except the environments was cool ( citys, landscape, mars etc). the gameplay was so generic and rock hard, you take like 2-3 hits and your dead as the enemys just average thugs will take like 8 hits (what?!). The story itself was serviceable. The soundtrack was okay. All together this game is just a drag. Its poorly executed and it would of been better if it didn't exist in the first place. I hope spiders do better next time but i won't pre ordering from them again.

This game was an average one, average story, average gameplay (but it did get boring after a few hours) most of the characters was annoying and the graphics wasn't anything special. The best thing i liked about the game was probably the soundtrack, some of it was funky and the dialogue cutscenes had gorgeous colours. The game itself after about an hour you've seen all it has to offer and the voices grates my ears. it was a bland experience for me, had enough after 12 hours

Aug 11, 2016
I waited a year before i bought this so i would have the extra dlc with it and it (in my opinion) is still an empty game. the pros: The gameplay is fun for a few hours and then it gets stale, if you like the combat in halo then you will like the combat in this but this drags on and i mean grinding away on. The graphics are excellent aswell. The soundtrack is pretty good also. the cons: everything else, poor story infact non existent so many times you'll hear " i could tell you" or " nobody knows" infuriating. A very repetitive game and boring after a short while. This game will never be an epic experience and a complete one at that.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse7
Aug 11, 2016
I've never played the other games in the franchise so I'm new to the series. The story was compelling and gripping and it kept me going to the end although i did feel like some of the puzzles were filler but generally they was good. The art style was stunning, beautifully hand drawn sketches, most of the characters were good aswell. However i felt the end was rushed and pretty bad and also the end of the story. I don't think it's a game you would play twice but for the most part i did enjoy it.

Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair10
Jul 22, 2016
The whole purpose **** is to entertain and that's what this game does with flying colours and that's why this game is a 1010 for me. it was hard to rate because the game itself isn't oscar worthy. The pros: it is hugely addictive i mean obviously its not for everyone, some people will find this boring and repetitive. boring it isn't repetitive it is but in a good way it never gets old. The gameplay is so much fun there is nearly a 1000 weapons to collect for the 4 classes (which the classes are all unique) most of the weapons feel different which is great and the enemy a.i isn't bad either especially on the harder difficulty's. most of the time they do go straight at you but sometimes they creep around your back which is cool. the edf soldiers are hilariously cheesy but great. I also get so hooked on collecting all of the item drop offs every mission to upgrade your armor and to get new weapons. in this game you never feel under powered in fact more often than not your over powered unless you play on the harder difficulty's which you gonna have to get way more armor and way better weapons than what you start off with( trust me you'll die a lot). Its so much fun going deep under ground in the dark and firing **** launcher flamethrower at the enemies in tight tunnels or to be hiding under a small alcove in a bridge from dragons bombarding you with fire. Its simply exhilarating unlike other games in the genre like Alienation which was a snooze for me. This game on the other hand keeps you on your toes. The cons: well the frame rate does drop sometimes in intense battles which shouldn't happen with graphics like these. the graphics are acceptable, textures are not very good, its a very sharp looking game but it looks like an early ps3 game but if it was next gen the ps4 wouldn't handle. I'm not kidding the screen is literally covered sometimes to the point where you can't see which isn't a bad thing its just cool blowing your way out. The edf a.i isn't very good, they'll be shooting at a wall to kill aliens robots etc on the other side which is a bit of a pain. The soundtrack is alright it goes with the game but thankfully it doesn't drown out the gameplay. Some of the screaming does grate my ears, oh by the way this game is noisy. it sometimes gives me headache after about 2 hours. Verdict: this game is brilliant an arcade one at that so don't expect triple a title (but when i think about its way more fun than most triple a games). I'm not a huge fan of Japanese games and if your not much of a fan either then i would definitely recommend this game. there is no other Japanese game like it, i would go as far to say there is no other game like it. it truly is a unique game

They have tried a new idea by making the game open world but poorly executed, its just filler and boy is it boring filler. if you took away the open world and all you had was the linear levels like the first one a: it would be better and b: it would be 1/4 of the time to complete this game. the pros: the soundtrack fits the game brilliant its one of the things i like about the first one, very relaxing futuristic music. The graphics are good and the voice acting was very good. The cons: Graphics are sometimes not great when you stop to look at the detail textures, there isn't much there, i suppose you could say that the city is called crystal city so hence not much detail but the thing i noticed the most was if you stop and look at a wall and walk up to the wall (like at the bird mans place where i noticed it) the texture would drop in and then when i step back it would drop out again. Story is not great but neither was the first one so don't expect to have your mind blown or a gripping tale. I did find the linear levels a bit more enjoyable than the open world (it was BORING!) but the game is based around exploring the open world which involves parcel delivery service and speed run and well..... i didn't get very far in to this to discover all of it because i couldn't be bothered with wasting anymore of my time. The characters are cliche, the a.i are zombies, the hand to hand combat (yes no more guns) is great when your free running but awful when your just standing there trying to hit them like a robot. the free running is good but that is all there is and after 2 hours i was bored of free running. If all you want is to free run (because that is all of the gameplay) for i don't know about 30 hours collecting every little thing and completing every side activity then you'll probably like this game. But for me they should of stuck to linear levels which would of been shorter but that is what made the first one great, that it wasn't stretched out with pointless filler. This open world has nothing to do except run around and complete boring objectives and collect pointless things which gets old really quick.

Star Wars Battlefront3
Jul 22, 2016
How do i start.....well I'm not going to compare this game to the old ones because this game has nothing to do with them its a reboot (if i did it would deserve a much lower score) lets start with the pros. The graphics are simply amazing, super detail to the environment (when you have time to look at it when your not being shot at), the lighting effects from the sky to the guns. The sand and snow levels were awesome. the storm troopers to the rebels and their vehicles was really good. On to sound now its great, nothing new but standard John Williams. The gun sound effects are beautiful just like the films and the voice acting are pretty good apart from Han solo. The cons... well everything else, the gameplay is way too casual and generic at best (point and shoot). No space battles and its called "STAR WARS".There is no strategy behind it and i don,t know why its called battlefront because your not at the front of the battle, there is rarely a battle where both sides collide together in a battlefront, most of the time your on your own shooting people in the back while there shooting others in the back and you get killed the same way too. The respawns are terrible i mean come on, when you die (which happens a lot) you can respawn at the beginning of the map and take like 2 minutes to back up into the fighting area just to get killed again or you could be respawned behind enemy lines where you will either instantly die or shoot loads of them in the back(oh by the way love the snipers, campers and trolls... that takes real skill) . By the way the pick up cards are rubbish especially the vehicle ones, the second you get in a vehicle everyone targets you so you don't get to play with them much, the at-at walker is on rails!, the speeder bike is useless and the flying craft all pretty much feel the same. This should not be called battlefront it should be called star wars arena. there is zero single player campaign which not just me but lots of others wanted. the best you get is the tutorials which last up to an hour and get to see what it would be like to have a single player story and then whack! door slam to the face, there is no more single player unless you count the "battles" they are terrible! its like the multiplayer battles except your with up to 4 a.i (which they are not there dumb) and the maps are tiny i mean its like running around the park with your friends at 8 years old with lasers except that's more fun, just ugh!. the multiplayer maps are shockingly small for a multiplayer based game unless you count the 39.99 pounds season pass (just bike it E.A into the pit of despair from whence you came), this is just stinging the fans if ever i saw it. E.A are evil they give you nice looking games and misleading and false trailers and pretty much every game they make is 54.99 pounds(that's the standard edition! deluxe is 69.99! whereas the ultimate with the season pass is 104.98 pounds!!! just NO!) this has got to be one of the most controversial games ever. so many people love it and i get it its star wars. You first play it and its like cool i'm in a star wars movie but after an hour or 2 it wore off. I've spent about 2 dozen hours playing all the modes and i've had my fill with no need to ever revisit. its practically a bad game or rather just a huge disappointment. i f you gonna buy wait for it to go on offer online (which trust me i've seen it on offer in the psn store about half a dozen times) or buy from your local game store they have tons of them on shelf... i wonder why?. DO NOT buy the season pass or the deluxe edition(because the deluxe edition content you can earn in the game for free apart from 2 exclusive emotes! wow! great deal! and the season pass if you buy it then your saying to dice and E.A here take my money for content that should be in the game upon release) its **** on release and it will never be a complete game with the dlc. one last thing do not pre order E.A games i and many others have been stung by them before many times. Its going to be hard to resist pre ordering mass effect Andromeda though. thanks for reading my first ever review :-)
