The final season didn't go they way I really expected. They wrapped up unfinished plot points, but kept the emotional desires from back to the first season and first movies. It directed how the series ends while having the characters grow and evolve. Well done and just extremely enjoyable. ESPECIALLY, an episode where Miyagi appears in a dream sequence.

The first few episodes of season one really turned me off. I avoided this series after seeing them. The lead characters were so unlikeable that I had no interest in seeing more. I couldn't believe this started getting renewed so I gave it a little more of a chance. What I disliked was created on purpose to set up the story. This series is about people who think their lives are great or terrible, but how they can make them better through karate and the philosophies associated with the different styles. If you are a fan of the original films (and classic 80s movies), this is something you will like. That's not to say that modern young actors and ideals also aren't also present, but don't expect DEI or political leanings. The series is about a story for fans, not about politics. Honestly, this is one of the best series I've seen in years.

Almost cute. Almost fun. Unfortunately, I found myself yawning a lot. Oddly, this seems written for children but contains content for adults. They seem confused who their target audience is. Most boring of all is the race swapping (Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Perry White...). Pretty much every character except Superman and his families. I was ready to let it slide because the voice cast is good, but, of course, males are incompetent, evil, stupid or cowardly. Yawn.

Boy was I wrong. Season 3, to date, is the high point for this series. Great character development, fun stories and action, very classic comic book/cartoon styled with an adult finish. An interesting original vampire series. Don't expect to find Anne Rice's characters or stories here. Everyone is re-imagined with different backstories and motivations. Almost every location is different. Time periods, both past and present, are changed. There are some slow moments, but that's to be expected early in a series. The casting is silly. Jacob Anderson is a great vampire, but would have made an excellent Lestat. Similarly, Sam Reid feels more like Louis with a nice Brad Pitt vibe. Yet my biggest dislike for the casting is that Eric Bogosian is too old to play Daniel and become a vampire later in the series. If this wasn't based on a long and very popular series of books, I'd probably have rated it much higher. If you're an Anne Rice fan, like me, you probably will not want to watch this.

Everything about this looks like a fun and funny Muppet outing. The underlying story works well to explain the tying of two franchises together. There is an insane amount of deep Haunted Mansion references, including a joke about the gift shop outside and the ride breaking down so often. Unfortunately, Muppets Haunted Mansion just isn't fun, and the jokes largely don't land. Strangely, there is a reoccurring joke that is a straight rip-off of a joke that started as a deleted scene from "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" and was later used in a standalone short called "Ominous Warning". No one from that production seems to be involved in this, but hey, Disney isn't going to sue itself. Kids may find it fun. Longtime Muppet enthusiast will probably be disappointed by Disney... again.

After the first 13 episodes it's clear the revived series is just a mess. Too many characters, too much spaghetti back story, and too much bloat. You'd do well to rewatch seasons 1 & 2 before season 3 just to clarify in your mind the version of the characters in YJ and how they differ from the DCCU, DCU, DC/CWTV, TTG!, etc. Khary Payton voicing ANOTHER Young Justice character, someone peripheral to Cyborg this time, was fun. Unfortunately the multiple 'Booyahs' killed any subtlety the gag might have had. Episode 12's spoof of Teen Titans Go! (Doom Patrol Go!) was almost a redemption, except it was too dark to actually be fun. I am glad the series is back, but I would have liked the stories and cast to be smaller and more manageable.

To frame my review properly, you must first understand that I've read Pullman's first book and hated it. As such I didn't read the subsequent books or see the theatrical film. Positive reviews are the ONLY reason I gave the series a chance. So how is it? Generally good. In my opinion better than the book, but the source material is still awful. Religion is evil, parents are bad people, the chosen one girl will save everyone by stumbling around blindly getting people killed, all while children are being murdered or seriously messed up. Ick. The whole cast is solid. Of note: Dafne Keen, who is expected to carry the series, handles her role extraordinarily well for her age. Who doesn't love Ruth Wilson when she is being deliciously evil? And James McAvoy handles a complicated character expertly. My first serious complaint with the series itself is that it is occasionally painfully painfully slow. Additionally, what I assume is material from books two and three is interspersed in the first season. While that may improve later seasons by getting it out of the way early, it is a dead weight on this season's already problematic pacing. My other problem is that for a special effects heavy series, the budget short cuts are even more obvious when they happen. A girl riding a polar bear? There are frequent shots **** bobbing up and down on screen without showing what is under her. Daemons may disappear from the screen for extended periods even though you expect them to always be present. Armored bears have 'fire hurlers'. Which sounds really cool, but although they are supposedly being used at one point, you never get to see one or fire being hurled. It's hard to believe HBO would skimp on the budget for a show like this, so I can only assume the director/showrunners are to blame.

A generally riveting and thrilling show with a few negatives that keep it from being anywhere near perfect. I'll skip the positive points, since there are many rating inflating reviews that already cover them. First and foremost you should be prepared for unlimited cliches and predictability. The show's style may be fairly original, but the content is not. The world building, especially in the first episode, is so dense it takes real determination to keep from giving up early. Anyone not already familiar with the novels will likely be baffled for long periods of time, perhaps missing out on important plot points while trying to figure out what anyone is talking about. Being Netflix, there is of course completely ridiculous and shoe-horned in wokeness. For example, there is a gay one night stand sex scene that is completely stand alone, serves no purpose and has zero effect on the plot. And yet, there isn't a single straight sex scene in the whole season even though there are multiple love triangles. The absolute worst offense by the show is how heavily coincidences are relied on to move the plot forward. Even an amateur writer could have created the same sequence of events without completely random occurrences causing things to fall into place as they do. One could argue that it's some sort of intentional fate element, but it will leave most viewer snorting in disgust at the silliness of the writing. Above average thanks to good effects, a unique style and great action, but only barely above average.

Now I'm not dinging the show more than a point or two for it's overstuffed political crap, but be warned, if you aren't a CNN watching bot, you might be bothered. The first episode is actually an emotional roller-coaster. Things turn around amazingly fast at the end of it making you brace yourself for an exciting season. Unfortunately, you will be disappointed. The problem is the rest of the episodes just sort of sputters along waiting for the finale that goes nowhere. Story threads are started and aren't resolved. This is not hard science fiction. It's barely even soft science fiction. At any moment you might expect Ming the Merciless to pop in and people to be able to breath in space. Ridiculous and campy with a 'Fifth Element'-style science fiction vibe, it could have been good if it wasn't so vile. Acting is average for a TV show of this level, effects are fair, the humor is more groan than laugh, and the plotting and backstories are completely unoriginal. While the lead, Elida, seems Mary Sue bestest at everything, it does come from training, not the magic of identity politics. Unfortunately, that can't be said for every other female character on the show who are magically gifted at everything. Oh, and of course, all the men are evil, incompetent or stupid. There are some shining moments. Episode 8, 'No Clue', is a joyous tribute to (of all things) the 1985 movie 'Clue'. Touted as a modern styled adaptation of Dracula in the vein (pardon the pun) of the Moffat & Gatiss Sherlock, Dracula is surprisingly uncreative. Good special effects, production style and action are a veneer over an unoriginal telling of Bram Stoker's tale. Watched with the sound off, you get the same or a better viewing experience. That is actually a good thing. Remember when Steven Moffat was known for his sharp writing and witty banter? The moments intended to lighten the mood of Dracula 2020 are just regurgitation of present day misandrist, anti-christian, and heterophobic speech. They are not so much jokes as anachronistic digs that shatter the otherwise impressive world in which you were being immersed. THAT is the modern style we were promised by the creators. Also, if you're going to watch a Netflix series and complain about identity politics, I ask you why are you even subscribed to Netflix? They've made it clear over the past several years that they are Leftflix. The first episode is poor. I mean bordering on garbage. I almost didn't push past it, but I am glad I did. The rest of the series, while frequently riveting with some fun timey-whimey twist, suffers from poor direction and an obvious willingness to accept on set ad-libing. Dialog can feel pitch perfect for its genre and then someone will drop a line that sounds modern and ridiculous pulling you out of whatever immersion you might have had. Once things start to pull together and get really good, the season ends. There is much that is good but also much that is bad about The Witcher. Edited to reflect the full season: If you signed up for Disney+ because you wanted more Disney/Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars, the Mandalorian is for you. If you HATE Disney/Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars... the Mandalorian might also be for you. The first episode is very poor and as a result I almost did not watch any more. My review of the first episode follows: There is no denying the Mandalorian carries the veneer of Star Wars and contains some good action. The problem is there is little else. The story is extremely weak. A wooden lead that never takes off a helmet is impossible to care about. The ridiculous backstory details sound like they were made up during a game of Mad Libs. This is alternate universe/bizarro Star Wars. The writers heard of this thing called Star Wars, watched a couple trailers and figured that was enough information with which to write the series. So much is wrong. We get a whole new misuse of the word 'parsec'. A sentient creature roasted at a market stall. Captured bounties are frozen in carbonite, because Han was (even though in the OT we were led to believe that was not the norm for bounties), and using an ancient yet surprisingly portable alcove fitted unit. There is so much to groan about. Dave Filoni's participation starts and ends with directing two episodes. He obviously had no creative control or these and other ridiculous things would never have happened? Don't believe me? Apparently Mandalorians now never take off their helmets. Huh? Bobba Fett did in the prequels. Even in Filoni's own "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels", Mandalorians are often seen without their helmets. I should also point out, Disney considers both series canon. [end episode 1 review] So why did I continue? The same reason you'll watch the series: Baby Yoda (the species not the actual Yoda). I'll admit it, I would watch an entire series with just Baby Yoda being Baby Yoda and nothing else. Like a Star Wars Yule Log video. The lead character fills the quote for maximum allowable non-incompetent white males. You can extrapolate the rest of that because: Kathleen Kennedy/Bob Iger. The action is still pretty good. There are MANY terrible actors that are of the quality you'd expect from a self-funded independent film. The Mandalorian can best be described as an animated Star Wars series... but live action. Definitely overrated. Not worth a Disney+ subscription alone. It's a solid 2 and a half 'meh'.

This is a provisional review based on the first two episodes. While I have no knowledge of their production, the first episode feels like it was originally a 2-hour movie that they were told had to air in a 1-hour time-slot. Instead of splitting it in two, they just cut half of the content. There are time jumps, characters appearing suddenly that you are assumed to already know, and lots of weird over-edited clues. Still, there are the bones of a solid science fiction series here. A diverse group of students, including a clone, an alien from a race that had been at war with earth, a (weak) telepath, and a computer enhanced girl all going to Starfleet Academy (or whatever they're calling it). Unfortunately, the lead is a girl who is the most important thing in the galaxy with a mysterious backstory even she doesn't know, and the second episode attempts to equate religion with small mindedness and hate. I'll give this a short leash, but it is the CW, so it will probably drown in its politics before its potential is realized.

I've read this book more times than I can remember, and while the series occasionally used the dialog word-for-word (when politically correct) something is lost in the translation from page to screen. This is either from bad direction or the skills of the actors. I think there were some good elements, but for the life of me I can't remember any. (Oh, wait, Henry Rollins FTW.) I spent the episode alternately tense that they might kill off any given character, and then disappointed when they didn't because I realized I hated every single one of them and I want them all to die. It is hard to decide if the young actors are incompetent or the terrible dialog is just impossible to deliver well. I suppose it could be both. Stylistically it feels like a cross between a rip-off of Fight Club, The Warriors, and a roll in a dumpster. It's not a badly done period show so much as tired and dated. The biggest problem is the original comic is firmly rooted in the 80s and there is no way to update it without gutting it. Yet a good gutting is what is needed. I would have started with the narration which reaches David Lynch Dune levels of awful. I will now bleach my eyeballs and take a shower. To be fair about it, I'll still watch one more. Syfy has a proud tradition in recent years of soft rebooting new series between the pilot and episode two.

'How I Met Your Mother' floated the joke that Daniel was the bully of the Karate Kid films and Johnny, the real hero, was his victim. That joke becomes the foundation for Cobra Kai, a satire of the original 80s movies. If you like the original films, you will probably hate how they have been corrupted. Daniel has retained none of the values he learned from Miyagi. Johnny has zero self esteem and his life is a dumpster fire. The series follows these two middle aged idiots as they torment each other and the teenagers that they use in their feud. Pure crap. Nothing worth watching this for.

Season two of MMM is plagued with problems. First and foremost is that the season is unfocused. It's almost like a second season was so unexpected that every random idea had to be turned into an episode. Then there is the problem that most episodes have scenes that feel like an end-of-episode wrap-up, but in the middle. Sometimes more than once. The episode then staggers on like a zombie for awhile and just when something remotely interesting is about to happen with the plot, it does end. I know that just sounds like 'cliff-hanger', but it comes across as poorly constructed scripts. It actually does make some sense because the over-arching story is so thin it has to be spread out. Speaking of the walking dead. Zachary Levi joins the cast, acting the most stiff I've ever seen him. You'd think he walked in from another series or that no one gave him any acting direction. That is unless the director just told him to stand there in his scenes while other people talked at him. Two dimensional barely describes his role which includes a good deal of screen time for such a poorly developed character. The drama in the dramedy is stretched thin and makes you want them to just get on with it. There are lots of pointless elements and plot-lines that should have been cut. The comedy is the highlight of the season. The humor maintains a high level, especially Midge's stand-up acts. Unfortunately, the lighter moments are often too far apart making many episodes feel like a slog. AND YET, some of the jokes occur at the expense of pulling you out of the show. Slang, references and banter is occasionally salted with anachronisms. Ideas that people of the period wouldn't know are used as fodder for jokes. Finally, there is the last episode. So so terrible. Lots of new 'I've got something to tell you' secrets suddenly added for every single character just before ending and leaving everything unresolved. Again, you could call it a cliffhanger, but there is more unresolved in the last episode than actually occurs in the rest of the season. Enjoyable, but a disappointing sophomore season.

I remember being traumatized as a kid by the original animated film of Watership Down. So, now a big boy with big boy pants I thought I'd see what the new version had to offer me by way of new emotional scars... is boredom a scar? If it is, mission accomplished.

A series is fundamentally flawed when you know more about the plot from the two sentence plot summary on Imdb for the 1987 film (or the blurb on the back cover of the book) than in the first 3 episodes. Glacial. Edit: Having seen the whole season, I want my time back.

I gave up on TVD about a season and a half before it ended and dumped The Originals after about two seasons. Every episode started to feel the same. Overstuffed story lines made viewing tedious. The mythology became near impossible to keep track of every time they retconned something. Legacies feels fresh but benefits from the deep mythology already in place. I don't know if it's just the story of the season or something that they can sustain, but I'm on board and enjoying it. Oh, and of course it's the CW, so your usual left-wing buzzwords and virtue signaling are present, but not toxically so like the DC Berlanti-verse series. A tentative 7. Let's see how the season ends.
