NYC 22

They honor the job without trivializing it, or turning it into melodramatic entertainment pap for the masses.

It boasts at least a whiff of the grittiness to be found in creator/writer Richard Price's 1992 novel about drug dealer, Clockers. [13 Apr 2012, p.79]

Some of the bits are awfully predictable, like tough-guy Sands mellowing into a big-brother type for a young street punk who (amazing coincidence alert) has a hottie older sister. Others are more interesting, particularly a debate between Goldberg and Marte over whether warring on drugs makes any sense.

The show is pretty much a by-the-numbers cop show.

When it comes to most of the rookie characters and the plot, nothing in the pilot of NYC 22 jumps out as being particularly original or interesting.

NYC 22 (for the 22nd Precinct in Harlem) is pretty average, which is to say: Nothing to write home about and probably nothing that you'll stick with very long.

TV this dull should be outlawed.
