It's just rich oil company propaganda normalizing American greed... Like most of today's movies and shows. Garbage. Not worth my time to watch more and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either.
I was a fan of Yellowstone but Yellowstone increasingly became like a Tarantino film with most main characters dying. This is centered far more around the work life of oil men which is what I would prefer. Compelling stories built around the family. Solid acting. Of course, since I like this so much it means it will probably only last two seasons while warmed over versions of the Wire (def top 5 all time shows) such as the CHI continue indefinitely.
I mostly enjoyed the first season minus the mom and daughter scenes, some of them were cringy. However I had to come here and rate it after seeing the first episode of the second season, it was by far the worst episode and it was mostly filled with mom and daughter acting crazy plus the two girls in the bathroom acting like stupid honry bimbos. I'd rate it an easy 8 without the girls. Taylor Sheridan should stop writing his shows with girls acting like they're horny and immature. Hopefully season 3 of Landman without Sheridan will be better.
Taylor Sheridan's Landman somehow amused me when tackling on oil rigs by mixing with family politics, corporate drama, and cliche subplots that made this show entertaining. Billy Bob Thornton is perfectly casted in this show and absolutely deserved a nomination for his sarcastic performance.
Pretty much a ten hour commercial for the oil industry, with a bit of tradwife philosophy and immigration fear mongering sprinkled on top. If you're looking for something good with John Hamm, look again, his only narrative function is to wear a suit and talk angrily about how important it is that we all remain dependent on oil. It's well written and even kind of funny, but it's pure propaganda from start to finish.
Landman is not a bad show; it's far from perfect, but it offers enough value in terms of story, depth, and entertainment to make it above average and far better than most shows on TV today. Yes, the characters are not the most complex, and the story isn't groundbreaking, but if you want a decent show to watch, this would qualify.
Easily in my top 5 shows EVER MADE. It has ever aspect you can think of violence and or fights, family and love, lust and honesty, story without feeling forced & lots of humor, Finally a strong TV show that has Conservative moments and feel. Tommy and his Son are absolute badasses. Mixing the Mexican Culture with white people were great, I grew up in San Antonio and it felt real. Coopers girlfriend Ariana is so hot, excellent actress choice and she's sells the story too.
Well, I am not an average republican who lives in Texas and hates everything that's slightly darker than white, but this show was interesting at the start, but slowed down in the middle. The main character is an rusty, old **** that pisses me off so much you can't even imagine. Other old 'gentlemen' who live with our main character are kind and respectful. I love them. Oh, and his son. He is such a cootie-patootie. Finally, I won't really recommend this work, cause it's just like any other film about drugs, Mexicans and all that stuff.
It's just oil industry propaganda. There is a moologue in the show against windmills and it is just... absolutely filled with false information. Which is fine... fictional characters don't have to be actually correct, but the show portrays the character as being right. So as a result... the monologue is spreading online with people thinking it is some brilliant take down of renewable energy when the facts are that it is just repeating every single oil industry talking point that has come out of the big corporate oil lobby. Literally every single argument in that monologue and has been proven wrong decades ago or is completely irrelevant. I honestly am worried that the show will have dire consequences and cause even slower action on climate change which is already killing millions of people around the world every year. I hope the creator of this show, who was on Joe Rogan talking about how Tucker Carlson has evidence thaf aliens exist (dude's a **** loon lol) or some ****, is ready to confront the fact that due to the disinformation he purposefully spread, he is now partially responsible for all those deaths.
Decent show that's very much elevated by Billy Bob Thornton. His line delivery and the acerbic wit in his dialogue make the show quite enjoyable. Without him, the show would be a slightly above average romp into the ambitions and challenges of the oil industry.
Typical Taylor Sheridan show. Excessive machismo (smoking, cussing, etc) and scantily clad girls that add nothing to the story. I keep wondering when the me too movement is going to catch up with Sheridan. These directors that insist on adding nakedidity to their productions almost always involved in some sort of misconduct.
Texas Gothic. Love the visual and musical tone that makes oil country so interesting. You learn a lot. But it’s Billy Bob playing Billy that makes the magic. All the other subplots aare fast forward. Many really funny cracks from Billy and his guys though.Billy always plays a beaten character who has a big heart but barely can sea with the chaos around him
If this show didn't have an ornery bad-santa-esque Billy Bob Thornton in it, then it would be absolute garbage. Not only would it be garbage, it would be oil company shill garbage. Ole Billy Bob better get one hell of a raise for elevating this into a half decent show.
I am right in the target demographic for the show and since the reviews were surprisingly good, I decided to watch. I enjoyed Yellowstone. This is an oil cowboy soap opera with a budget script, playing towards cheap tropes that entice young male viewers. There are unfortunately too many men that fantasize about objectifying underage girls, having them obsess about men at all times & have no place on earth outside of that. All of the female characters have no brain or place in the show outside of being eye candy. One of them being an underage character. The script is otherwise predictable. Thornton cannot save it with yet another quality performance.
I am a huge fan of this series for its undertaking of a subject that might look to be dull on the face of it, but can be appealing to those who believe in building dynasties. Billy Bob Thornton brings an absolute powerhouse of a performance throughout and if there’s enough drama to hold us to the next season I will stake my claim on my recliner every Sunday night till the patch runs dry.
landman is a hit! Billy Bob Thornton plays a phenomenal role and he has some amazing dialog lines in the show that sent me and my brother both reeling with laughter. Fans of Yellowstone will enjoy this one as it is also written by Taylor Sheridan and has a similar family empire dynamic. Territory on Netflix is also in the same vein but I found Landman a bit more compelling and humorous. Thoroughly enjoyable with a great storyline, wonderful acting and captivating cinematography.
The photography and background scenes were extremely poor quality. Slapped together. The women were depicted in a demeaning manner. I know nothing about oil rigs so it was interesting to see. I'm still wondering what was the point of putting on this show??? Is there a message here? Very disappointing. Taylor must not have had time to get involved it it. His shows are not consistent. Too many irons in the fire.
The show is better than Yellowstone. Too bad I stumbled upon it. I wish I would’ve known earlier so I think you guys need to do more advertisement on the show because you’re not doing it any justice by not advertising as much is Yellowstone. This show is very compelling. I love it. Very witty and smart. I can’t wait for the next episode. Billy Bob Thornton is **** awesome in this show.
