Deputy is a melange of Western and cop show cliches in a novel-enough package, thanks to creators Will Beall, who writes, and David Ayer, who directs the pilot.

All three entries [episodes] are as predictable as they are fine with being predictable. “Deputy” doesn’t give off so much as a whiff that it wants to be more than a by-the-book, case-of-the-week cop drama. ... That being said, all that formula makes for a solid foundation.

Putting aside Deputy's peculiar politics and red-meat aesthetic, though, it has undeniable appeal. The intricately staged shootouts and car chases are gleefully frequent, the dialogue crackling.

A show with some muddled politics and thin characterizations. Dorff is at the center keeping it entertaining, and the ridiculousness in some of the plotting to start the series is almost admirable, but this is an inconsistent show in every way.

It's silly, occasionally action-packed, rarely makes any sense at all and it's a little bit less reactionary than I feared.

Surely there has been a show more reliant on cliché than “Deputy,” Fox’s new cop drama. But none springs to mind. ... In short, “Deputy’s” politics may come from a past decade, but its writing seems to come from another century.

LOVE The Deputy show! Finally something entertaining, refreshing and a better plot than many new shows. I’d rate it up there with the Chicago trio!

This is one of the worst shows I've ever seen, but somehow I keep watching. It delves into "so bad that it's good" territory right from the first episode and somewhat stays there. The dialog is one terrible grandstanding speech to the next. Stephen Dorff overacts every possible scene and here is where I think the "it's so bad it's good" starts to play into things. I think just maybe they are trying to make a completely corny and over-the-top cowboy show like the ones from the 1950's and 60's. Something like Gunsmoke or Bonanza. The entire show just seems totally anachronistic. Every time I think it can't get any worse, there is another even cornier speech with lines like "That's what it means to be sheriff" or "That's not how we do things as long as I'm here". It's almost unbelievable. It couldn't be this bad organically, could it? They have to be TRYING to make it this way. It's just too intentional. Unfortunately, the cinematography is closer to a bad modern police show like the new Hawaii 5.0 or one of the unwatchable NCIS shows. So the corny 50's style writing doesn't really mesh with the way it's shot. IF you had someone shoot this TV show in more of a Tarantino style, you could probably keep the exact same predictable plot and corny dialog and it may even work. So.... it's a 4. I can't mark it lower because I think I may actually watch more of this crap. I eat at McDonald's every once in a while, too. Not everything can be a Michelin star meal and not every TV show can be Breaking Bad.

Unfortunately again a boring and very ordinary police series that was stopped after 13 episodes. Here you can see everything that you have seen in dozens of other cop series. Too bad.

I was actually looking forward to this show, but after the first 3 episodes I can't stand the SJW indoctrination any longer. Why do you keep making the decision to shove your ideology down our throats, I just want a simple show to relax and unwind to after a long day of work.

The show was OK and I may watch again, but they lost me with the overt "plug" for support of Sanctuary Cities and protecting ILLEGALS and refusing to up-hold the LAW.
