DANG!

Many new comedies these days suffer from a compressed run that offers little room to riff and experiment. By keeping a tight focus on its nuclear unit, “Dang!” avoids this issue with a compact concept that never feels too big for its vessel.

The show is generally amusing, sometimes very funny and easy to watch as an evolving story of family.

“DANG!” gives Andrew a bit more shading and depth than his sisters. Law has a sharp eye for the complexities of gay New York. .... I feel obliged to mention that the Dangs are from Boston, which leads to a series of none-too-fresh jokes about it (racism and sports chowderheads, in Boston?!). Sigh heavily and stick with it nonetheless.

Driven by sibling chemistry and unapologetic Gen Z wit, DANG! is an earnest adult animated comedy, even if its hyper-specific humor may test older viewers’ patience.

While the show has its occasional moments of cuteness or cleverness, and only rare ones of active tedium, I found its eight half-hours more frequently felt like a show I wanted to laugh at more than I actually did.
